TalkBack / RE: Metroid: Zero Mission Preview Update

No, remaking Metroid II would be just fine. Super Metroid doesn't need to be remade since it's not outdated. It does need to be ported though.

You do know that if you play Metroid II on a GB Color or GBA it has color, right? Super Metoid isn't exactly outdated either. The game set the standard by which all the other Metroid games are judged and is leagues ahead of Metroid II. Metroid II is barely above Metroid. You can aim in 4 directions, you can save your progress, and there was some new items like the Space Jump and the Spider Ball. That's pretty much all it has over the first game. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Metroid II a lot but it's seriously lacking when compared to Super Metroid and the newer games. Besides Yoshio Sakamoto said in the teleconference that they would only remake Metroid II if they could implement new things into it like they did with Zero Mission. He said they wouldn't even consider just doing a slightly upgraded version.

For the most part you're right about the Mario ports, but I would like to see how far they would get with graphically upgraded versions of the old GB Mario games.

EDIT:

Q: With Zero Mission behind you now, would you be interested in redoing games like Metroid II on Game Boy or Super Metroid for the Super NES. If not a full remake, do you think Super Metroid would be ported to Game Boy Advance?

While I can't tell you that we have concrete plans to do either of those games, with Zero Mission we had the game concept of getting back to the roots of Metroid, and at the same time reworking that game by implementing newer features. In that sense it was a challenge for us to recreate the game. Going with Metroid II or Super Metroid, simply transferring it over to another platform, wouldn't offer us much challenge or challenge our creativity in any way. So unless there was a real need to do something like that I can't imagine that we'd want to do that. Obviously if we found something we can add to those games that would change them and make them fresher and newer we might be interested in doing something like that. Maybe if the fan base in the US decided it really needed to have Super Metroid as-is on the Game Boy Advance, then we might look at doing something like that.

I really doubt that would sell. It's a very outdated early GB game and is pretty short. I know I wouldn't pay full price if all it had was new graphics and a map. I do want a full remake of the game in the same vain as Zero Mission though.

If they port Super Metroid it needs to be done with a minimal amount of changes. That's why I feel it should either be a bonus on Metroid Prime 2 or ported to the next GB.

The first time it happened I was entering the Potion Hags Shop to start the monkey saving quest. I believe that's what it is called. Anyway when you enter a door like that the screen goes black. Well it stayed black. The next time it happened I had just played the Song of Time after having completed my tasks for the day and was just running around Clock Town. I entered the Northern part and the screen went black and never recovered.

I beat the game yesterday with 100% completion and it only froze twice. Luckily both times I had just  start playing so I didn't actually lose anything.

Thank you.

If you got the missiles can you explain how the controls are setup? I've been curious if they work the same way they did in Fusion or if they've been modified for this game. How was the difficulty of the game? Also how much information did the Chozo Statues give you? Was it just a little hint or was it more like Adam in Metroid Fusion where he would tell you exactly where to go and what to do?

234
Yeah, I've played LA and enjoyed but it's not really one of my favorites. Of course it had talking animals and crap like that too, so if Capcom is making a new GBA Zelda then they'll probably take their inspiration from ALttP for it.

235
Yeah, I wouldn't mind a horse, but I really don't know if it's all that necessary in a 2D Zelda. I mean all Ricki and the others did in the Oracle games was to help you get past certain obstacles. It's not like it made travel faster which was the whole point of Epona in Ocarina of Time. On the other hand I definitely don't want to see Link riding anymore boxing kangaroos, nice dodongos, or big dumb bears with tiny wings. I mean this the Zelda series Capcom. Please treat it with some more respect and seriousness next time.

Overall I'm not the biggest fan of the Capcom Zeldas so I would prefer that they attempt to make A Link to the Past 2. I mean that game play wise not story wise by the way.

236
Actually whether it is a new Link or not depends on where you put the game in the time line. For instance a lot of people believe it is a direct sequel to A Link to the Past and a prequel to Link's Awakening meaning that it's the same Link in all 3 of those games.

237
Well, a couple of months before this last years E3 Miyamoto spilled the beans in an interview that Capcom was working on a brand new GBA Zelda game. He said that they had been working on it since the summer of 2001 and that they had temporally stopped the games development to work on A Link to the Past/Four Swords. He also said that the game would be shown at E3 but that never happened. Sometime shortly after E3 I believe I read an interview with Miyamoto at ign.com in which he said that neither of the Zelda games shown at E3 were the GBA Zelda he had been talking about. So apparently this game is still in development and is supposed to be a classic single player game.

Honestly though I'm beginning to wonder if Miyamoto wasn't talking about Tetra's Trakers and/or Hyrule Adventure. I mean doesn't almost 3 years of development time seem a little excessive for a GBA game? Unless it's just supposed to be that freaking huge. Also we haven't heard a damn thing about it since then.

Eh, I have to say I'm kind of disappointed right now with this new product. I mean so what if you can see two screens at once? Wasn't that one of the ideas behind linking up the GBA with the GameCube? Now they expect us to get a completely separate system to do the same thing? I just don't see how this is going to innovate game play all that much. There better be more to this thing and the two screens better offer some truly cool new game play features or I'm not interested.

Yeah, MM is great. I'm enjoying it a lot more my second time through with the Collectors Disk. I think it's a better game than even OoT. The game itself just feels more polished and complete. I'm sure that's due to the fact that they used the same game and graphics engine from OoT and therefore had more time to concentrate on just the game itself. That's why I have high hopes for WW2 since they're using the same engine from WW.

Oh and my favorite mask is the Bunny Hood. My favorite part is probably the whole beginning of the game.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Oracle of Ages, Wind Waker Connection?
« on: January 18, 2004, 01:00:48 PM »
The Sages in OoT have the same names as the towns in AoL but that doesn't mean that AoL is a direct sequel to OoT or visa versa. Yes, the idea is that the towns in AoL were named after the Sages in OoT but they are definitely not direct sequels to each other. Of course I'm not really sure which connection between WW and Oracles you were referring to so this post may be completely pointless.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Darker Zelda
« on: January 17, 2004, 09:11:55 AM »
Yeah, I never really liked how Link and Ganondorf looked in the Spaceworld demo. Sure the graphics were great but Link looked way too feminine and Ganondorf was way too bulky and muscular. Sure you could tell he was muscular in OoT but he didn't look like the freakin' Hulk either. It made him look like he was some all brawn and no brain villain.

Also as far as adult Link not working with cel-shading that is actually something that Aunoma agrees with. Anyway I have really come to prefer the cel-shaded graphics over OoT's and MM's. I have been playing MM on the bonus disk and I really think that cel-shading would have worked great in it. Also I prefer young Link. Despite what some people try and say Link in The Legend of Zelda was supposed to be a 10 year old kid. I was like 5 or 6 the first time I played the game so I thought it was really cool that they had a little kid running around slaying demons and dragons and exploring dark dungeons for treasure.

Personally I thought WW was fairly dark. It wasn't as dark as MM but then MM was pretty damn dark for a Zelda game. As I've played through MM a second time on the bonus disk I can't believe how many times death is mentioned in the game. They don't try to kid friendly it up either. Anyway WW is dark because of Hyrule being flooded and then destroyed at the end as well as the king basically committing suicide. I think that WW was a lighter game because MM was so dark. Nintendo probably just wanted to balance things out. I'm sure with Aunoma at the helm will see another dark Zelda like MM.
