General Gaming / RE: Preordering Games and its Impact on the Industry
« on: November 14, 2007, 05:21:17 AM »
UncleBob, I too had some TRU troubles. I called TRU on Monday and they told me they already had the game in and to show up at open Tuesday or else I might not get the coin. I show up at 9am (when I have to be at work), and everything is set up ready to go including the coins and giftcards. Myself and about 5 others who were told the same thing as me are waiting for them to get the game out. After about 30 minutes of scrambling, they come to the realization that they hadn't even gotten the game in yet As a result, I got to work about an hour late and I had to go back later to get the game.

Later that day, I called TRU on my way out of work to see if they got the game. I was put on hold and I waited on hold for as long as it took me to get there.

I love some of the deals TRU offers, but they are just a disaster. The store out in Rochester was about a million times better than the one here in Albany. I guess there is no consistency between TRU stores.

When are we going to get a useful update? This stuff isn't revealing anything interesting about the game. We already knew about multiple taunts and the handicap stuff is obvious and pretty worthless on the whole.

In any case, congrats bustin!

LOL I also made a Mr. Garrison mii, well actually a Ms. Garrison mii to be exact. It's cool to grab a bunch of other people's Miis that resemble popular characters/people. I now have a big Mii lobby of memorable faces. Always cool to see them show up in Mii supported games.

Agreed and Agreed. Oh and the fact that it is the most boring linear Zelda adventure ever (PH that is, not WW).

This is one of those games that as I play it more I like it less. Most games don't do this to me. It was a pretty weak Zelda entry and if this is the direction Nintendo intends to take Zelda, count me out.

I love Fire Emblem, but it just isn't worth $50. Once it sees a price drop I will gladly pick it up. I'm still trying to finish the Cube one anyhow.

Agreed this movie totally sucked and should be banished from the history of film. Nonexistent plot, crappy 1 dimensional characters, not nearly enough Transformers, and flat out too long and boring. This movie is just awful, it's terribleness is only increased due to the sheer number of people who told me it was great.

Agreed, but even if he gets his old move set I'm not complaining. He was great in Melee and his play style was vastly different from Captain Falcon's.

I used to live in Florida and man it was hilarious. Coming from NY the cold didn't bother me too much, but people there ... it killed them. Got to be about 50 and people busted out the heavy ass winter jackets. Cracked me up every winter.

One time the elementary school my brother went to called up and yelled at my mom for sending my brother to school in shorts and short sleeves on a 60 degree day. They demanded he have a jacket for the "freezing cold" weather and felt that she was being an "irresponsible" parent. Needless to say my mom laughed at them and hung up.

Karl if you think it's cold at this point already you need to get out of FL for a while and into some real cold weather.

Of course I find it funny how they gave it a 7.5 in the story department.  Who in the hell plays Mario games for the story?  Complaining about the story in a Mario game is the equivelent to complaining about the acting in porn.  Meaning your not supposed to care.

Complaining about story in video games must be the dumbest complaint ever. The story can really only augment the experience, not detract from it. Video games are not movies and the over-arching story is not the focus, it is all about the quest that leads you from the beginning of the story to the end. If you have fun all along the way playing the game, who cares if the purpose of playing was to rescue a princess or save the world from impending doom. It's all the same in the end.

I'm really hoping for Captain Olimar playable. I doubt he would have the potential to be a very competitive character but he would be a great one anyway. Ouendan as stated would be nice. I'm really hoping to see some sort of Chibi Robo representation, not sure what it could be, but anything would be nice.

Why put a limit on it?  Yeah, it'd suck up the Wii's memory to have a lot of game saves on it, but isn't that what memory cards are for?  I mean, we're not using cartridges any more...

You can always back up the saves on an SD Card so, no big deal. But good point nonetheless, no reason to place a limit.

Well with that in mind, it doesn't seem like these guys are the greatest of friends. I know it's easy for me to say to ditch them, but it doesn't seem like they respect you enough if they don't care how much this is annoying you. I would take a look around the social scene and see who else is around. Maybe isolating yourself further from these guys is in your best interest.

You could also try and call Bill out on all of this as a final hurrah and see what his deal is. If you really bring it out in the open in front of everyone maybe it'll get you somewhere. If not, drop out of the scene for a while and show back up in a few weeks and hopefully Bill moved onto his next victim...

I'm not going to claim myself some sort of expert on this matter, but from reading your story, I have a pretty strong grip on what kind of person this guy is and exactly how he thinks. I had a friend very much like this guy and he put me in pretty much the same position. He had a mouth that was a little too big for him and was really the opinionated overly judgmental jerk who accused everyone else of being the same when they didn't want to tolerate his sh!t. My suggestion, don't talk to him and DON'T fuel his fire by arguing back with him or getting visibly upset over anything. This guy that I know fed off of that negative energy and only used it to ridicule further. Let your other friends know how you feel and simply tell them you won't be around if Bill is there. Personally, I'm the confrontational type, and if somebody pisses me off enough they WILL get my fist in their face. If you don't want that confrontation or the temptation of violence, stay away. Eventually Bill will find a new target and lay off of you. I know you say this guy is your friend, but if he was and you asked him to give it a rest and he doesn't then he isn't a friend. Friends should be understanding and shouldn't give you too much sh!t if they know it's really getting to you. Me and my friends make fun of one another, but we keep it to petty stuff and it is ALWAYS just joking around.

Like I said, I'm no professional on these situations, but the best solution seems to be avoiding this type of person. They feed on negative energy and love the confrontation, don't get caught up in it any further, it really can only lead to greater issues. It's also worth noting that you shouldn't ditch your other friends over this. Let them know what the deal is and that you won't be hanging around them if this Bill guy is around. Or you can go for the most radical of moves, give him a taste of your fist and see what happens... (Just kidding, don't do this it never fixes anything)

To augment that argument I would like to throw Kotaku into the mix. They don't have any quantitative data to look at, but from reading daily, they are the first to throw Nintendo under the bus. Every time a Wii article comes up they never fail to mention how "dusty" their Wii is and how there is an utter lack of games for the system. These comments never seem to come up with either the PS3 or the 360, who in my opinion have even less great titles and an even slower distribution of them. Another great example, when the stage building was announced for Brawl it garnered a big yawn, but for Halo 3 it was revolutionary and flat out amazing. There are countless other examples, I just ignore it and read the headlines now because it just pisses me off to read their stupid ass comments.

Well technically if you registered your Wii at nintendo.com you have an extra 3 months on the warranty. So make that Feb 19, 2008 for expiration of the warranty.
