Nintendo Gaming / Walmart Lineups
« on: November 14, 2006, 12:44:43 PM »
I was over at Walmart to pick up some groceries for dinner at around 4 pm and I noticed some people around the videogame section in chairs. It appears 56 hours before the PS3 is supposed to launch people have already started waiting. I'm wondering what this means for the Wii launch. Am I going to have to line up this early?

As the day gets closer I keep getting more and more worried about actually finding one on launch day. I really don't want to wait any longer than I have to.

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Games at Retail
« on: November 13, 2006, 06:44:58 PM »
I just wanted to post that I spotted Happy Feet for the Wii at Walmart today out here in Rochester, NY. Anybody else spot Wii games at a store? I am hoping to buy all of my games and accessories before Sunday.

General Gaming / Perfect Dark Zero Map Pack #2
« on: November 06, 2006, 01:22:56 AM »
This map pack just came out and I suggest everyone who has this game or knows anyone who has this game downloads the pack NOW. It's free and features totally redesigned and re-envisioned Facility and Temple levels. Both levels are gorgeous. Both are a little on the dark side but easily the best maps in the game.

On a negative note, it makes you realize how slow you move in PD0 compared to the old PD and Goldeneye especially.

NWR Feedback / Profile update error
« on: November 03, 2006, 03:15:05 AM »
I just tried updating my profile after changing my e-mail address and received this stacktrace:

ERROR INFORMATION:
A problem occurred when attempting to deliver mail.
This exception was caused by: javax.mail.SendFailedException: Invalid Addresses; nested exception is: javax.mail.SendFailedException: 550 not local host gmail.com, not a gateway.
The error occurred on line 10.

The e-mail I tried to change it to is definitely valid.

General Gaming / XBOX 360 Dashboard Update
« on: October 31, 2006, 06:12:26 PM »
Anybody else pull this one down today? It features more organized submenus and 1080p support. On that note, does anybody here have a 1080p TV and not have the image come up from the 360? I was all tiku tiku tiku!  that I could finally use my TV's 1080p capabilities and it seems there is some issue with the patch's support for 1080p.

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Accesories Priced
« on: October 12, 2006, 04:34:16 AM »
2,800 yen ($23) for the LAN adaptor
2,500 yen ($21) for the Component Cables
3,000 yen ($25) for a replacement AC Adaptor

I'm pretty happy if the component cables wind up around $20 here in America, considering there were prices up listing them at $50. Plus that LAN adaptor is pretty decently priced if people don't want to spend on a wireless router.

General Gaming / Clover Studio is Dead
« on: October 12, 2006, 04:25:42 AM »
Article found HERE.

Due to poor sales from niche market games, Capcom decides to bring the axe down on Clover. Guess creativity is over rated these days. Hopefully the cool franchises to come out from the Studio will be kept alive by Capcom.

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Save Exchange
« on: October 03, 2006, 11:48:14 AM »
Hey guys, I was talking in one of the other threads about creating a website dealing with the exchange of Wii saves. Since you will have the ability to easily transfer saves to your computer I figured it would make sense to create a site that organized a bunch of peoples saves so that anyone could easily access a save file. It could even be used so that a member could archive their own save files without using their own HDD space. Is this something you guys would be interested in? And another question for the guys who run PGC, do advertisements subsidize the cost of keeping PGC up and running? I wouldn't mind doing a fun project like this, but I also can't really afford to have a website costing me a small fortune on the side.

General Chat / My Computer Dropped Dead
« on: October 01, 2006, 07:10:01 PM »
Today I go to sit down and use my computer (3 YO Alienware laptop), and everything is just peachy, when out of the blue the screen starts flickering and freaking out. Eventually the computer just freezes. I turn it off, go to turn it back on, and it boots. Now I'm waiting to see the BIOS loading screen pop up and nothing happens, processor light is not flickering as it should be when the computer boots so I turn it off. After a few tries I eventually get it up and running again, and after a few minutes of use it does the same thing. After trying all day I'm guessing that the video card must be shot, which would suck. The video card is directly soldered to the motherboard, which also has my RAM and processor directly soldered to it. So the whole core of the computer would be screwed just because of the video card. I'm hoping that maybe it isn't my video card and it's something else, anybody here have any idea what the problem may be?

If the computer is a goner I guess I will be dropping about $1200 for a decent iMac, which isn't too bad but if I don't have to spend it I won't.

General Gaming / Games that make you want to buy a PS2
« on: September 22, 2006, 02:33:21 AM »
On the request of Kairon in the Okami thread I decided to put together a personal list that made me buy a PS2, and games that have come out since that are also worth buying. Here it goes (in no particular order):

1. Katamari Damacy / We Love Katamari
2. Guitar Hero Series
3. Devil May Cry Series
4. Final Fantasy Series
5. Onimusha Series
6. Metal Gear Solid Series
7. Maximo: Ghosts to Glory / Maximo vs. the Army of Zin
8. Ico / Shadow of the Colossus
9. Okami (Wii version is better)
10. Jak and Daxter (none of the sequels)
11. Klonoa 2
12. God of War Series
13. Kingdom Hearts Series
14. Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution
15. Dragon Quest Series
16. Gitaroo Man
17. Melty Blood: Act Cadenza
18. Disgaea 1+2
19. Psychonauts
20. GTA Series
21. Timesplitters
22. Dark Cloud 2
23. Twisted Metal Black/Head On
24. Sly Cooper Series
25. Ratchet and Clank Series
26. Tales Series
27. Soul Calibur III
28. Graffiti Kingdom / Magic Pengel
29. Contra: Shattered Soldier / Neo-Contra
30. Gran Turismo
31. Silent Hill Series
32. Mister Mosquito (plus others in the Fresh series)
33. Rez
34. Tekken Series
35. Shinobi
36. Taiko Drum Master
37. Shin Megami Tensei games (Persona, Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summoner)
38. Odin Sphere
39. Zone of the Enders Series
40. Rogue Galaxy
41. Xenosaga Series
42. Star Ocean
43. Yakuza 1 + 2

Those are just some of the games that came to mind. They are all PS2 exclusive and they are all pretty good games. All are worth looking into though if you are seriously considering a PS2 purchase. Any changes/updates I'll add as you guys post.

Edit: For simplicity reasons I decide to group the 2 lists into 1.

Nintendo Gaming / Import Gamecube on Wii
« on: September 21, 2006, 06:38:06 PM »
Hope this isn't repetitious but will it be possible, out of the box or with the Action Replay, to play JPN/EU Gamecube games on the Wii? I just bought an HDTV and I want (more like need) to play the Cube in 480P so it doesn't look like ass, but I don't want to spend an extra $60+ on component cables if I can definitely play my imported games on the Wii.

General Gaming / Master Hand playable in SSB
« on: September 19, 2006, 08:53:00 AM »
Check it out on Kotaku. Apparantly all you have to do is circle your control stick clockwise 30 times then select any character. When you start the match you are the Master Hand! Totally awesome. Time to bust out the game and give it a try.

Nintendo Gaming / Analysts Suck
« on: August 17, 2006, 04:22:32 AM »
"Boston-based research firm Yankee Group believes that the PLAYSTATION 3 will capture 44 percent of North American console sales by 2011. Following close behind will be the Xbox 360, grabbing 40 percent of the market. And dead last? The Wii at a very sad 16 percent."

I would love to know how these analysts come up with their predictions. Honestly have they not followed the whole Wii thing at all? The general attitude towards Nintendo has dramatically shifted and they are very strongly positioned for one of the best launches in video game history.

Microsoft has already proven that their system is solid and well done, and they have integrated Xbox Live so well into the 360 experience that most 360 users can't live without it.

And what has Sony proven? Nothing. All they have shown is that they are imitators, and douchebags(for using the PS3 to push Blu-Ray).

Let's not call the shots before all the players are on the field, speculating at this point in time is plain useless.

General Gaming / Dead Rising
« on: July 21, 2006, 02:20:19 PM »
Anybody else picking this up in 2 weeks when it comes out? Looks like a ton of mindless fun. Glad I have a 360 to enjoy some of these games that are coming out that I won't be able to play on the Wii (mainly Perfect Dark 0 and Kameo).

General Gaming / Kameo Rocks!
« on: June 28, 2006, 04:16:01 PM »
Well I took the dive this past weekend and picked up a 360 and I must say I am thoroughly impressed. The system is sleek and has some really cool features(The controller turns the system on and off, pinnacle of awesomeness). But onto the main topic, Kameo!

This game is more than I expected. Quite honestly since Rare has left Nintendo the quality of their games has gone way down hill and Kameo really shows that Rare has something going for them. The environments are absolutely stunning, the puzzles are fun and the game has Rare written all over it, humor and all. I will say one thing though, anyone basing their opinion of this game off the demo, think again. The game starts off somewhat weak with the demo that is playable in stores, but after that part is completed you get into the really fun part of the game. Any of you holding out who own a 360, give it a shot. The game currently runs for about $25 on eBay and is totally worth it. Anyone else feel similarly about the game?

General Gaming / Donkey Konga 3/Region Switch
« on: June 05, 2006, 04:30:28 PM »
Does anyone know if you install a region switch if it will allow you to save donkey konga 3 save files on an american memory card? I just imported it and I'm a little pissed I can't save, but before I go through the effort of modding if the region switch will allow this to work.

Nintendo Gaming / Are you camping out?
« on: May 29, 2006, 03:25:57 AM »
I was just reading the mailbag and one of the questions was on preordering the Wii. Are you guys more likely to preorder or camp out? Personally, I think camping out is the only way to purchase a game console. I camped out at the local walmart for the Cube and at 1am in the morning I was enjoying the next generation.

Question 2: What games are a definite purchase at launch?

I am going with LoZ, MP:3, Excite Truck(if it's there), Wii Sports, Madden Wii(First Madden Purchase Since '94 on the SNES), and possibly Rayman.

Nintendo Gaming / Luigi's Mansion 2 and Pikmin 3 No Show
« on: May 10, 2006, 12:35:57 PM »
Did anybody else hope to see these 2 at E3? Not that I'm complaining, I thought Nintendo put on a great show. I just was really hoping for at least one, well hopefully Nintendo has them in mind and will show us something cool a little later in the year.

Nintendo Gaming / Punk'd by Nintendo
« on: April 28, 2006, 12:52:29 PM »
Check out this post over on Kotaku Did Nintendo Punk Us with Wii?.

It appears some analysts think that the whole Wii title announcement is a type of viral marketing because Wii has not been patented in the US, Europe or Japan. All I have to say is interesting but highyl unlikely, worth a read though.
