On topic...

I'm on a 'misunderstood heros' theme.

Zelda - the man that was born a woman. The emperor - who may have been a brutal tyrant, but was beat up by yoda in school. And Jack Thompson - whose father was killed by a six-fingered EB games employee.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: The Not-So-Bad Software-Only Nintendo

1.) I wasn't talking about software prices. I was talking about hardware prices. Who has the money spend $200-$300 for 3 systems.

Divide the cost of the system you want to buy by the number of games you want to get on that system. Let's say you want to get 20 ps2 games. And the ps2 is $150. So, you're paying, what, a $7.50 premium on all games? Not that bad.

Oh, also ThePerm, you suck

General Gaming / RE: Rare's New Xbox360 game revealed!!

It may be just a fluke coincidence that Rare's leaving and Nintendo going franchise crazy coincide. If Nintendo didn't do insane things like having Sega and Namco work on Nintendo games or having Silicon Knights work on remakes them maybe I wouldn't care so much about Rare leaving. When Nintendo had Rare there was some variety in Nintendo's games. Since Rare left almost everything has this bland homogenous look, feel, and style. Maybe the problem is not a lack of Rare but just Nintendo having no idea what the purpose of third party support is.

It's not a coincidence. Nintendo has been hurting with the GameCube. They've tried out all kinds of original games, but franchise games have been the only things that have sold. GameCube has not the system to start new franchises on - Nintendo doesn't have enough troops to try and conquer new territory, they need to regroup and build up their army. And get rid of any worthless moneysinks that they can. Worthless moneysinks like Rare.

If the DS is any indication, the rev will be different.

funny story, I was going to defend you but... I fell a sleep... and forgot to pm Pryopizm in time, sorry.

No, seriously it's all right.

I wish I were killed for this reason instead of being killed off for being a threat no matter whether I was townie or mafia... =(

ahaha. Kind of your fault, though.

I can see how the remote will help some genres out and how it will create new genres but I dont HAVE to play with the remote to know that certain things wont be fun and I dont HAVE to touch the damn thing to know that fighting games are impossible as they stand.

The nice thing about the remote is that it's expandable. An attachment with six face buttons and a large d-pad or joystick will make the xbox 360 controller, with its four face buttons and d-pad in the non-primary position, look like crap for fighting games.

It's a lot like the Wind Waker graphics situation. Things probably would have been fine if Nintendo didn't show us that tech demo which gave us a completely different idea of what Zelda would look like on the Rev. That's why there was such an outrage at the time. It felt like they fooled us. They either pulled a switcheroo or they didn't realize they were which means they're DUMB which isn't good either.

So, what, you want Nintendo to give us even LESS information than they do now?

BTW, I know a lot people feel differently, but I never liked the original SW2000 demo. It impressed me in terms of graphics, but it captured nothing that I liked about the series. IN contrast, while I was dumbfounded by the initial celda screenshots, I was giddy after seeing the video (you know, the one everybody hated for some reason.)

This is excellent news. Not sure how people are construing it to be bad, let alone suddenly losing interest in zelda/the rev. You guys are like the people who complain about classic movies getting 5.1 mixes even when the original mono is included on the disc. But to each his own.

Everyone who voted for me: you suck.

Stevey: you suck for not defending me, and then defending the ninja-pirate just because he said he loved you.

Everyone who I said sucked: Just kidding, I love you all. Keep that in mind, you know, next mafia game.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Revolution - The Exclusive Console
« on: March 15, 2006, 09:54:06 PM »
The only thing that matters, when it comes to third part support, is the popularity of the console in question. The rev, while less powerful, won't be a generation behind the competition ala the ds. Downscaling to the rev/upscaling to the other consoles shouldn't be any big deal, especially with the rev's lack of HD giving devs more horespower to play with.

If the rev is popular, there will be a healthy amount of third party support.

Quote

But there's a big issue. The N64 followed the market leader SNES and by default started off as the market leader. It had more momentum and back then Nintendo still had some power in the console market. That might be the reason why third parties made exclusives for it.

I doubt it.

3820
Good article. I like his point about how, while today's games have to compromise their control schemes to fit all-in-one game pads, the rev's expandability will mean that the controller will be perfect for nearly every type of game. I also liked his idea that the movement would be used to compliment actions that you'd set-off by pressing a button.

One thing, though: I don't think the controller will be very good for movement. Why would Nintendo make an analogue attachment if it was? And I don't see his problem with using the revmote as a sword: sure it's obvious, but I think that's the kind of thing this controller is best suited for. Direct control of actions instead of indirect control, I mean. He can have his subtlety all he wants, I want to be able to wield swords and splash water and ring bells with the rev.

"The best part of all your posts Ian is the relentless bemoaning of 'missing features' that are completely and irrevocably satisfied by the shell and/or nunchaku attachment."

Nintendo hasn't annouced if these are included with every console yet and they need to be or they won't be widely supported. And we haven't even seen the shell. Nintendo's interpretation of a traditional shell and our interpretation might be completely different.

You're a real "glass is half empty" kind of guy, you know.

...actually, you're a real "Yes, the glass looks half-empty, but is it really? The water could just be painted on the glass. Okay, it probably isn't, but still. How do I know the water isn't salt water? What if the water is completley undrinkable and unable to quinch my thirst? We don't know whether it is even capable of quenching our thirst because none of us have even tasted it yet!" kind of guy.

Excellent question, Steve Johnson. It's amazing how much interest NubyTech's products are generating, especially the Street Fighter Anniversary Edition Controller for only $24.99. In answer to your question, you can find NubyTech's high quality products wherever videogame products are sold.

And also at Ty's Funhouse.

You could still do it as a farewell or something.

Thanks for the suggestion...but inspiration struck and I decided to go in a different direction. Though I did give Louie an (almost undetectable) cameo.
