General Gaming / Reward posted for release of Duke Nukem Forever
« on: June 15, 2006, 12:12:20 AM »
Take Two will give 3D Realms a $500,000 bonus if the game is released this year.

If you're worried that this might cause 3D Realms to rush the game, though, don't! They're assuring people that, contrary to what you might think, they'll take as much time on the game as they need:

Quote

As for the 500k completion bonus, I don't even know were that came from," said the outspoken executive. "I do know that we never cared or asked for it, and I think it was just tossed in as part of some other agreement. We're certainly not motivated by that amount of money, after all this time, and getting the game right is what matters. I would never ship a game early (even a couple of months), for 500k

Ty's funhouse has become slightly too serious. To maintain normal funhouse activity, funhousuals require the funhouse environment to maintain a steady unserious atmosphere. Failure to provide such an atmosphere may result in funhousuals regaining control of their minds.

I want creative, synergistic solutions on my desk by the end of the day.

Actually, 2013th post, but let's ignore that like we ignored the true start date of the new millenieum.

Anyway, I've been here way too long. Expect me to wander on out one of these days...

A man stands there, naked, covered in blood, and holding a toothpick. He looks down at the mangled corpse of his victim, and smiles. Then, he looks around at the room...there are no doors or windows. The only openings are two square holes in the ten foot high ceiling.

Fortunatley, a rope is dropped down from one of the holes. The man walks over to it and grabs on. After being lifted up and out of the room, he shouts "next item: a screwdriver." And then he is escourted away.

After a time, a naked, unarmed man is thrown into the room through one of the holes. Another naked man is thrown through the other hole, armed with a screwdriver. The two men look around. The room is spotless, with no dead body and no trace of what had gone on before. The two men turn to look at each other. And then...

This fall, there will be something worth watching on USA that isn't Monk. Or at least, hopefully worth watching. "Major league gaming" will be airing video game tourneys this fall, featuring Super Smash Bros. and Halo 2, among other things.

Hooray?

edit: replaced lame title with more informative one.

NWR Feedback / TY's Serioushouse
« on: June 06, 2006, 08:37:12 PM »
No, this isn't about Ty's funhouse getting too serious (but that is a problem!)

On the forums, talk of Religion, Politics, Sexual Orientation, and apparently Nationality is forbidden. This is good because, GameCube being a tiku tiku tiku!  console, most forum goers here at planetgamecube are naturally unable to carry on serious adult conversations about these subjects. But, these subjects also happen to intersect with videogames a good deal... and conversations about them keep spilling out, only to be shoved back in the closet. So, why not get them out of the closet, by making a seperate forum where topics of serious can be discussed and contained?

Nintendo Gaming / yay, new rumored tech specs
« on: June 03, 2006, 02:28:13 PM »
A supposed interview with someone from UbiSoft was posted and then taken down from Easy Nintendo recently. You can read it here.

He apparently confirms that "the graphics chip [is] somewhere inbetween the ATI Radeon X1400 and the Radeon X1600, and the CPU to between the AthlonXP 2400+ and the AthlonXP 3000+", among other things that my feeble non-technical mind can't really understand.

Of course, this is almost certainly fake.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo aiming for October launch
« on: May 24, 2006, 10:46:42 PM »
sez Kotaku

This has been speculated for awhile, and now it's semi-official. Great news. If Nintendo plays their cards right (ie: doesn't have outrageous shortages), this could result in hardcore fans getting casuals hooked on the system before the holiday buying season.

General Gaming / Myst mmo making a comeback
« on: May 18, 2006, 09:54:58 PM »
I doubt that many of you care... but since it failed last time because of lack of interest, I thought I might try to, you know, drum up some interest.

Why be excited about a Myst mmo? I think tycho from Penny Arcade summed it up best...

They're saying that there really wasn't the subscriber interest to support it, and while I find that sort of depressing it wouldn't surprise me in the least. The whole thing was really high concept, placed high demands on their technology, and had somewhat ethereal elements to it. I've heard Uru Live's functionality referred to as a sort of "chat room," which is a claim so ridiculous that I hardly know how to characterize it. My vocabulary is an arsenal, and I can't produce a comparable understatement.

When I said ethereal elements, this is what I meant - that's the homepage of the "D'ni Restoration Council," the bureaucracy in the game that is preparing the ages (puzzle worlds) for travellers (i.e., players). Look at the front page, I mean, there's a character saying that Uru Live is canceled in story appropriate language.

So, yeah. They're parterning with GameTap, and it'll be out this fall Hopefully they won't cancel it before the official launch this time. And hopefully there'll be a mac version.

No, seriously, like a CG film from nintendo.

...can someone shed some light on this crazy internet rumor?

Cause, if true, this is my dreams come true. No, seriously, if done right, it could be really cool. Or completely insane.

edit, apparently this is coming from here, which looks a little dubious to me. Maybe the image was especially convincing while it was still viewable or something.

Nintendo Gaming / Wii's new look
« on: May 09, 2006, 09:41:54 AM »
Because I'm into superficial details, check out the new Wii, much like the old Wii:

Looking snazzy!

edit: notice 'Wii' branding (of course), speaker on controller, round power button, smaller player lights, and light on power button. Now the thing is even more apple-esque.

Baton-alicious!

Nintendo Gaming / Can the GameCube price get any lower?
« on: April 30, 2006, 08:36:09 PM »
Apparently so.

According to an EB employee, stickers and posters for the GameCube reading "New Low Price" are being sent to retailers by Nintendo.

It seems GameCube will soon be cheaper than the cost of materials for entering the average PGC contest...

Nintendo Gaming / uh-oh: Nintendo reconsidering Wii?
« on: April 30, 2006, 07:36:10 AM »
Because we don't have enough Wii threads already. Kotaku has discovered that Nintendo is sending out a survey asking people what they think of Wii, and whether they prefer Wii or Revolution. Interesting. Hopefully, as Kotaku speculates, this will just be used to help market the Wii and won't result in Nintendo actually changing the name back.
