Nintendo Gaming / RE: Red Steel Topic, MORE new details! (last post)

I have this unopened.  The talk of it being a different kind of fps has me intrigued thought.  I wouldn't mind the slow turning in the game if that's part of the design.  A sorta pseudo light-gun/fps hybrid is maybe more what it is.  I might just open 'er up.

Better than using a gamepad.  That's for sure.

Yeah it would be great if we could load WiiSports and other small games to flash memory.

The GC discs had a Mission Impossible feel to them.  I miss 'em.

I know the bigger ones offer larger capacity, but games like WiiSports and Excite Truck could be done on GC discs.  Same with other games.

I'd rather even have 2 small discs than 1 large one.  Anyone else miss 'em?  They felt 'hi-tech.'

i love this game.  Fun stuff. I am partial to out of control arcade racing games like Crazy Taxi and Burnout tho.

Yeah and the tutorial mode takes 5 minutes.  You only need to do part 1.

I have to say the lastibility is pretty high for this game actually.  These are the types of games you actually want to keep around when you just want to play for 12 1/2 -30 minutes.   And that's where this game will get its lastibiiity in the long term.  By being easy to get into and fun and always having room for improvement so that it be one of the first games you'll pull off the shelf when you need a quick fix.

I opened Excite Truck and ULtimate Alliance so far along with the WiiSports packin.

WiiSports rocks.  ExciteTruck rocks.  Ultimate Alliance?  Eh I played it for an hour and it's ok.  Not something I would recommend tho at this point.

I have Zelda:TP and I know that will quite good.

It rocks!!!  Man it totally funny that just as I got the Wii going and started playing Wii bowling that my bowling nut of a friend called and upon hearing that I got a 'bowling game' he came righ over.  5 or 6 hours later I was still playing WiiSports.  Fun fun game.  My bud, who doesn't own consoles, but plays the occasional pc rts or rpg type game started asking about the system a couple hours into our mini-marathon.  HOw much?  This game comes with it?  Only $250?  That's pretty good price for this game.  Yeah he didn't even care about what else there might be.  Fun stuff.  And kids love it too.  I have a young son.  5 yrs old.  He absolutely had a blast.

The gods were with me. Finally.

I went to 5 or 6 different stores this morning (after being at Walmart at midnight last night) and all were sold out or had more folks in line than the store had Wiis.

And then I happened upon a Sears with 3 people in line. It was almost nine o'clock too. And only 3 in line??? And thank goodness the couple in front of me was only buying one Wii because Sears only had 3 Wiis.

I was the cutoff. 3rd in line for 3 Wiis.

So I got one and it looks like they are sold out everywhere around.

But as much as I want to play it I might Ebay it. It looks like you can make a couple hundred right now.  :?  Hhhmmmm.

Yeah I loved Chibi.  I think the hardcore are most offended by Red Steel.  The reviews that liked it I think had a more casual gamer attitude.  Not a snobbish attitude.  I don't know.  IF IGN or Gamespy give it a 5 I think I'll have to wait for a price drop although part me wants to play it more.  I can always sell it on Ebay I guess tho.

Walmart next to me has 60.  They are drawing names at 12:15.  I got my ticket earlier in the day for the drawing.  I'd guess I might have a 1 in 4 chance.  We'll see.  Otherwise I have crapload of stores within 20 minutes of me.  I expect I'll be able to find one tomorrow morning.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:IGN reviews
« on: November 18, 2006, 09:27:58 AM »
A second opinion from a poster who (eventually) says he's works for Nintendo Power UK and said REd STeel is much better than Gamespot said.  He reviewed the final version for the magazine which comes out in a few weeks.  Also says he owns  a 360 and play Gears of War and isn't a fanboy.....

He sounds pretty convincing so I believe him tho with the internet you never know.  He says you can bet he rated the game much higher.

I have to say GAmespot's complaints don't bug me and the reviewer spent little time outlining how well the aiming and turning is with the wiimote and covering things such as 'nade throws, kinds of guns or the slowdown mode or sparing lives.....

I really agree with the poster in the link above when he says 2 things.

First most reviews aren't taking into consideration what the Wii is really about and that's F-U-N.

And second, the review (and this is true for other reviews even semi-favorable ones) spends more time criticizing the game for what it isn't instead of what it is.

He also harps on glitches and what not yet provides pretty much zero examples.

Nintendo Gaming / USB Thumb Drives compatible with Wii?
« on: November 18, 2006, 02:49:46 AM »
Be nice if they were.  Probably easier for most folks to transfer music and photos from their pc to their Wii.

Oh and how about networking.  Can I transfer music and photos over the network to an sd card inserted into the Wii or to the built-in flash memory?

Some how I think the answer is no given that Nintendo is very cost conscious.

Yeah 5.5 is low.  This guy gave PDZ on the 360 a 9.0 tho.

Many of his complaints don't bug me.  Graphics, no blood, forced sword battles, dialouge & story, no difficulty level, multiplayer is meh, ....

Story and Dialouge might bug if I can't skip it, but for the most part I've never found vidgame stories any good anyway.

He doesn't talk alot about how gun combat is or throwing nades or doesn't go much into detail about the controls as far as turning and aiming goes.

Still 5.5 gives me pause.  I'll have to read another review or two.

I'm going to get Excite Truck.  IT's just a matter of what price.  It's just one review and I'm sure Excite Truck is a fun game.  Before this review it did sound like the type of game that gets closer to a 10 the lower the price aka a game worth playing and that's fun, but might be short on content.  See Mario Super Strikers.

The WiiSports review is a bit odd.  LIke first he says the game probably won't be for the hardcore and then when talking about golf he says 'he couldn't immediately master the controls, but the hard core could probably get the hang of them with some practice.'   Isn't that contradictory?

And how many times do we have to read that each WiiSports game isn't a full-fledged virtua tennis or Tiger Woods golf or Fight Night 3?  Most of the review is spent explaing that the graphics aren't as good and that each game isn't a full-fledged game.  IT's like reviewing a TV show and each time saying that the show doesn't have the production values of a motion picture or isn't as long and epic as a movie.

One thing I'm going to get sick of quick is reviews taking 2 paragraphs each time to remind us that the graphics in Wii games aren't as good as 360 ones.

Trauma Center sounds like fun, but I ain't pay $50 for it especially since I bought and played most of the DS game within the past year.  I'll get Trauma Center if I see it for under $20 or on a rental shelf.

Eh these things happen all the time and you know what?  IT is a bummer, but pretty minor.   Get your money back and go elsewhere.  Why shop at a store where you have to write letters to the BBB? Write the letter and shop elsewhere.  Write Sam Goody management too and say they lost your business for the Wii.  Maybe they'll send a coupon inviting you back.  Don't hold your breath.  Just shop somewhere where they want your money.

Excite Truck seems like a good game to have on the shelf for a quick fix here and there.  It might not be a game you play for 10 hours straight like a Zelda, but it's definitely the type of game you'd turn to when you have 15-30 minutes to game or when you have a buddy over at your house.
