Nintendo Gaming / RE:what games

It's a conspiracy...They're actually researchers and are trying to get info from us FREE OF CHARGE. The bastards..

"You must know the past to understand the present, and face the future"

These are words that Nintendo should live by, as they really can't afford to make the same mistakes they did in the GCN/N64 era.

This also ties in with something Ian said that I want to discuss

Well put.  The first time Iwata said that gaming as it is can't really go any further my initial reaction was "BS.  YOU guys can't go any further or are choosing not to.  The rest of the industry is doing fine."  I think Iwata's confusing the state of the industry with the state of Nintendo.

It's true that right now the industry is booming. It's doing perfectly fine, HOWEVER Nintendo is looking ahead to the future. There will be a recession in the near future, where the industry will become stagnant, and it is heading in that direction quickly. In Japan, Nintendo can see that the industry is slow right now, and they are predicting that the same will happen in the North American market. But, as I said, the gaming industry is fine at the moment. As a result, Nintendo taking this road is too early by maybe a generation.

Nintendo Gaming / Best Title Ever
« on: March 17, 2005, 07:56:48 PM »
I just thought of making a thread of the best/most clever/wittiest title that any video game has had. There are many but I'll just mention two of my favorite ones

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

For those of you who don't know (don't worry - I didn't at first either), a requiem is a song that is sung at someone's funeral. So, in this game, literally it means a song sung because sanity is dead. Figuratively, it symbolizes the end of someone's sanity. This really ties in to the game because it actually is about being insane etc  - those who have played it will know. Anyway, it is extremely clever, and I wonder how long it took to think of it lol.

The Legend of Zelda: A  LINK to the Past

I love this title lol. It may be a simple pun but w/e

Also, I question the use of the word hardcore gamer. To me there are three levels of gamers, the casual gamer who plays a game on occassion and barely knows quality, the average gamer who's like us, reads reviews, plays games very often, etc. Then there's the hardcore. That's the kind of people who can rattle down a list of all moves in Street Fighter with their frame counts and weaknesses. The kinds of people who do speedruns with the most insane tricks available, the kind that complains about balancing when the rest of the world didn't even know the game had strategy at all. That's where I'd file Ty. I doubt any hardcore gamer gives a crap about graphics since many of them still play many 2d games. The casual gamer is swayed by advertising, image and licenses, the average gamer usually by media bias and the hardcore will still be playing the same three games ten years from now .

I agree totally with this. The word "hardcore gamer" is too liberally more than a few times. There are few actual hardcore players

My scale of gamers is from 0 - 100, 0 being the very casual gamer, 50 being the average, and 100 being the hardcore gamer. Nintendo, at the moment, needs to target those that fall between 31 and 65. These are the people who buy the  software. The hardcore gamers will come, and the people who fall below 30 are not worth it. Those are the people who bought the PS2s and don't buy any games, thus the disproportionate software sales for the PS2. It's like,

"Here's my PS2, but I don't have any games for it..."
"That's great...how much did it cost?"
"200 bucks - what a deal, eh?"

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Online games for the 'Cube?
« on: March 16, 2005, 06:54:17 PM »
Well, you can play LAN games like Mario Kart online through Warp Pipe - you need to hook up your Cube to the computer and it runs through there. Read it all up here under the "getting started" link

Are you sure that they are making wireless voice chat?

Haha thank YOU for making me laugh for the first time today (actually probably the 5th time after watching Arrested Development)

Anyway, I was in a rush to write the message that instead of saying "whatever" I said "w/e". I know it looks a bit funny but I just use it sometimes as an abbreviation

http://www.buyritegames.com/product_information.asp?rc=frgl&number=GC-BURNOU2

It's 12.99 btw, and I really don't think anyone read my above thread, but i found it from froogle.com, and i could probably find a new copy of this game for even cheaper on that site. Plz see my above thread for details....

Oh, and Burnout 2 is a great game, now just hoping EA will finally bring Burnout 3 to GCN - 2 was quite popular

And I forgot, if a game is more than one word, put the whole name in paranthesis

eg if you want Mario Party 6  type in "Mario Party 6"

sorry

OK, we're talking about cheap games, right?

So, the first thing I wanted to tell you guys about is froogle.com     for those of you who haven't used it yet. It's a tool that searches for products for sale, including games. I believe it also searches for used games on ebay and other sites.

Anyway, you just type in the name of the game you want. It searches and gives you some results. On the left hand column, there is a link that says sort by: "Price: lowest to highest". Click that and more results will be displayed. After this, you will have to go through some guides etc for the game, because they are cheaper. However, keep going through the pages of results, and you will soon find your game for the lowest price found. I have found that this tool is very helpful at times.

Next (this is only for people who live in Canada)

futureshop.ca is a great site. It has games on offer all the time. What I have found is that as soon as a game comes out, it is reduced to $49.99 canadian on the site for a while. This happened for RE4 as well as Paper Mario & MP2:E. I bought RE4 and MP2 from there, and it really helped because the other stores didnt go less than $60. Occasionally it has other games on sale (1 example is Madden 2005 for $29.99 CDN in November). BTW it has free shipping too

another site is compusmart.com. This site is weird (in a good way). THey had Day of Reckoning for $29.99 CDN when it was $60-70 everywhere else.

Ok anyway sorry for the long post - thanks for reading
