Well, the idea works a lot better in the more population-concentrated Japan. But I'd imagine that it would be a really nice feature for a gaming convention or something. I heard that at E3 having a DS was a blast, with Pictochat and multiplayer games and all, so this would probably work well too.

Yeah I've seen those before and I love them, and it really gets me thinking of the Rev interface. I also liked the design in the GumShu fake..

In the US it comes down to marketing. I still think that Nintendo has piss-poor marketing. I recently saw King Kong in the theater (awesome flick BTW), and guess what played before the movie? A preview for the PSP. Aside from Zelda: Wind Waker, I've NEVER seen Nintendo do a movie preview like that for any of their products.

Whoa there silks.. if you recall, for the DS launch, there was a massive theatre advertising push.. and I actually really liked the commercials - they still stand as the best Nintendo ads I've seen in the past year. The DS launch advertising, come to think of it, wasn't too shabby at all, which helped it launch so strongly.

I agree, though, that many of Nintendo's commercials are laughably forced. I haven't seen some of the newer US ones on TV, since I live in Canada and we have the "Too Much Fun" ad campaign (pretty good actually), but that Nintendogs one was just awful.

And BTW, I went to King Kong too, and the first two ads I saw were for the Wi-Fi connection; the ninja one and the NASCAR one.

Also, I have to disagree with you about King Kong . I found that in the movie, something they could have covered in 5 or 10 minutes took half an hour, and it didn't really have much substance. Not worth my money..

Er...but aren't GBA sales more than four times that of GCN sales?
Yeah, but I meant that not many people could get together with a GCN AND 3 GBAs AND 3 link cables..instead of, say, 3 other controllers.. the restrictions that FFCC placed on the player were too much.

I don't think this will happen, but I would like it to.. It's not the main DQ series, just a side game, and it didn't even sell exceptionally well in Japan, so I don't expect it to come here anytime soon..

Thank god, I knew Nintendo wouldn't let me down.
AHA! Everyone rejoice.. well done Nintendo; as tempting as it might have been, a Zelda game designed from the ground up for the Revolution is a MUCH better idea..

Happy mantidor?

EDIT: And I feel somewhat bad for the magazine that released the TP-Rev news - apparently they have been around for a while, and they broke some other big news that turned out to be true, but this will definitely hurt their reputation..

Really? We have yet to get anything less than "Take half of other's coins" as a duel reward.. And there have been many occasions where the loser has to give up one, or even two, stars..

And yeah, the game is good, but I don't know that it's really a lot better than MP6. It requires more luck than 6 and 5 since there is more randomness too.. I've got a few comments/questions though for you guys..

1) Is there a way of turning on duels when two people land on the same space in the last 5 turns? Because I noticed that it was missing in this version, and that's a feature I really liked, so I was just wondering if it was completely gone..

2) I find that there seem to be less Free for All minigames (9 I think) and many really aren't that good at all. Especially the one where you're in the bubble and have to punch people out, and the kart racing one.. Then there's the USELESS one where you just hit the dice block to find out how many coins you get.. I must say, though, the one where you flip through the drawing book to match the picture is pretty damn good. Other than that, the other minigames (apart from the Bowser ones, which are too easy) are pretty good. I have a few favourites, I'll list them later - which ones do you like personally?

3) The mic is used differently this time - it's not 1 person with the mic and 3 others without, but its turn based, and also there are mic spots on the board that if you land on them you get a bonus mic game to double the money you wager. There is only one of these bonus games, and it is ridiculously easy - so much so that you can ALWAYS bet all your money and be basically guaranteed to win double. It's the game with the fruits and you have to memorise the order. The other mic minigames are so-so; nothing particularly outstanding and which couldn't be done with a controller. I did like the balloon one and the one where you have to stop the clock closest to the time given, though..

4) As I mentioned, this game is more random than the others. At the end, the bonus stars are ALL random, so you can even get a bonus star for how much money you used to shop at Orb Huts. In one case, there was a star for who landed on the most red spaces, and none of us even landed once on any of them. That's the problem with the random stars - if someone had landed on a red space even once, they would have won a whole star at the end.. And this deteriorates the value of the minigames, because there's no guarantee of a minigame star. I would have definitely preferred it if the Minigame star and another one (Orb maybe) was fixed, and the other one could be random, because as it is, it's based too much on luck

5) The Windmill map is brilliant! FINALLY a map where coins mean a lot, and therefore minigames mean more. This map I would play over and over again, because it's just that good.. With no Coin Star being awarded, coins didn't really mean much. But this map changes that; you have to "invest" your coins in a windmill that contains stars, and whomever has the most coins in that particular windmill gets all the stars. I think there are 6 or 7 windmills, and most have 1 star, but 2 have 2 stars and 1 has 3 stars. So obvioulsy people would fight over the ones with more stars, and your precious coins won't be poured into a windmill with only 1 star. It's strategic and fun, and the best map in the game..

EDIT: Character specific orbs = but a bit unbalanced..

I've only had two dreams ever about Nintendo, but I don't dream much..

1) I was extremely young, and it was the first time I had played Super Mario Bros... wow, the only videogame that actually entranced me - in all these years I've never got that feeling again - it was close in SM64. Anyway.. yeah can't really remember the specifics of the dream

2) I was in a carriage with Iwata and Miyamoto. In the middle of a HUGE world with forestry and mountains in the background and fields and all. Turns out I was actually inside the Pikmin world, with them all around and completely contrasting the realistic world.. And apparently I was actually getting a tour of the virtual Pikmin world that Nintendo developed. In fact, Iwata mentioned that he "developed" that forest in the background himself. I think I said something about how nice it looked, and he acted like his usual modest self..

Umm, yeah..

Sony was gonna try pushing Connectivity between PSP and console Playstations liek PS2 and 3, what if it backfires on them like it did with nintendo? Does any body think that could hurt Sony alot?

I don't really think it would hurt them; it just wouldn't help them a lot.. The PS3, in all likelihood, will have a much larger userbase than the PSP, which was opposite from the GBA/GCN comparison. Unless games made for the PS3 go out of their way for connectivity, and the end result is a worse game, then yeah, it could hurt them more..

And UncleBob, do you think that a game should be designed with such a big restriction as FFCC had? If a game is not meant for you, it usually means that you don't like the style of gameplay or the genre or whatever, like you don't like Madden. But that's not the case at all here. You could absolutely love the gameplay in FFCC, but, as you said, it was meant for people with GBA-owning friends. And that means not many people..

All online games have local multiplayer as well.. That means that if you want, you can get 3 other friends to play the game, and all you'd need would be 3 more controllers, not all the equipment FFCC needs. And you wouldn't need online either...

If it really is true, and Microsoft doesn't get more than a few million consoles out there, it could be disastrous for them. By next Christmas, both the Revolution and the PS3 will be in adequate supply too, and they will be new, so there will be more hype for them. I don't understand Microsoft...

The game was simply designed for people who have friends who have GBAs. You don't? Well, then the game isn't for you. Just like Madden 06 isn't for me. See how simple it is?

Well, see, there's a big difference there.. You don't like Madden, but the fact that you don't like it is because of the genre or the type of game it is. Someone may love FFCC and its gameplay, but they don't have GBA-owning friends, so they wouldn't be able to get the most out of it. There should never be such a tight restriction on a game..

Back to the DS sales - it SOLD OUT in Japan? Geez, Nintendo can never do anything right!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Rev Predictions
« on: January 04, 2006, 04:17:01 PM »
I don't like the idea Rev playing second fiddle at all.. That's the thing that worries me about this "second system" stuff; if many people buy the Rev as a second system, multiplatform sales will just be horribly low. As it is, developers are definitely going to make games with the 360 and PS3 & HD in mind, then scale them back quickly to port them on the Rev. It's bad enough that the Cube getting the worst ports gives it a bad image... So if this happens, a lot of support will dry up. But again, if the userbase is high enough, it won't really matter, as the Rev will get a significant amount of exclusives.

Then again, Nintendo is saying it should be a second system for those other gamers who migrated to Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo is trying to create a whole new audience in non-gamers. As has been said, it's risky but if it works, it has great potential... the non-gamers could get interested in other types of games, and also, there will be more third party support is the userbase is strong regardless of the demographic.

I didn't get any Cube games for Christmas this year and DDR is literally the only Cube title I bought all year (not a Resident Evil fan, if I was I would have bought two games).

Not even Fire Emblem?

EDIT: And did you at least rent RE4? Because, as KDR said, it's quite different than the other ones..
