I actually don't think Sony or MS will copy the NRC even if it's a blockbuster success ... as long as Nintendo doesn't cut into their marketshare. It's like the DS touchscreen - look how well it is doing, yet I don't think a competitor is going to copy it.

Nintendo is going for new gamers, and not the ones that Sony and MS have control of right now. Unless these same gamers make the Revolution their #1 system also, and don't buy a PS3 OR Xbox 360, then Sony and MS will stay with the traditional control scheme. So even if the Revolution sells millions and even challenges for the market leader position, I don't think Sony or MS will use the controller if their userbase is respectable enough, and Nintendo isn't cutting into it. But if they sell significantly less consoles, and traditional gamers are buying the Revolution and NOT the PS3/360, then the controller will definitely be copied.

Technically you can change save batteries and fix connectors. But if a game in your memory gets deleted it's gone.

Well, you could always back it up to an SD card just in case anything were to happen..

Let the Überquote reign once again!

It'll be funny when Stab keeps quoting himself over and over again if this doesn't catch on..

Ian, like Jon said, having so many characters on screen with individual AI isn't worth it at all. If there are that many enemies, the game would just be a boring hack 'n slash, but even worse would be the camera. You would have to zoom out so much that it would be hard to tell what's going on, and I don't think it would be fun at all. That's what you would give up to make it seem more epic. A 30-man Royal Rumble would be nice, though, but then it leaves a lot to luck. At the beginning it would be extremely chaotic and chances are most people would just button mash. Therefore, the more skilled players could be tossed out early without anyone actually beating them. As more players get thrown out, more skill is needed as it is less hectic, but by that time, many of the actual good players might be out already.

As for normal matches, you have to take into account the length of a match - if there were, say, 8 people in a normal match, it would never end, since only one player is needed to break up the pin, and the ref has to come over first to count it, which would give even more time for it to be broken up (if you're not using an auto-ref). Unless you want to do it like the Smackdown series, where no hold or pin or move can be interfered with, which I absolutely HATE. How unrealistic is that? You're standing there but you can't break up someone's special or pin. And you can't even release your own hold when you're doing something. If someone is climbing the ladder to get the belt, but you are putting someone in a submission, you can't let go of the hold to  go after that person! What a joke..

In the Day of Reckoning series, you can let go and you can break up anything at all. This is infinitely better, and I would think that the game you're thinking of would have this option. If it does, then with 8 players a game it would take a long, long time to end (if it did at all).

You still in denial over that? Whatever.
Sorry, what? You asked what they were speculating over, and even if the Rev specs are true, it's still speculation as Nintendo hasn't said anything at all about them...

EDIT: And about being able to get used S/NES cartridges - you can't overlook the fact that they're really old, and after 20 years or whatever, they're prone to breaking down, or the save battery running out. I had a few cartridges like this, and this problem won't occur for the download service.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Rumour come True? Zelda: TP Forward Compatible?
« on: January 12, 2006, 07:20:43 AM »
I agree with you that cancelling it for GameCube would be a bigger mistake than adding Rev functionality. But I feel that if Nintendo were to do this, I would much rather they didn't announce it for the GCN from the beginning, and just work for it with the Revolution in mind.

But, why can't TP be that special game you have envisioned Zelda REV to be? Why is TP already alienated? Is it because of, dare I say, the graphics? Is it because it was announced as a GameCube game first?

Because it won't take full advantage of everything the Rev has to offer, and therefore it won't be the complete and polished Rev game that I want. The true Zelda Revolution will push the controls and the Rev hardware, not only for graphics but to do things that the GameCube hardware just isn't able to (like how Pikmin couldn't be done on the N64). And at the very beginning of the development of this Zelda, Nintendo will be thinking about the Rev controls all the way, unlike TP. So that's why TP can't be the special Rev game for me..

And why would gamer's feel cheated? They can still play the entire game on the GCN.

Yes, they can play the game on GCN... a few months LATER with nothing added for their benefit unless they buy a Revolution..

Dear Diary,

I stand at the corpse of Ty the Talismanian Tiger, weeping at the loss of our beloved town, um, benefactor. Yes, let's leave it at that. I don't want to taint your precious pages with the evils of society. Anyway, just earlier on in the day, I was going to die. Then, by some miraculous change of fortune, I still live to see the sun rise again. And it's all due to Mrs. Sugary (and believe me, she was sweet..).

Then, by another twist of fate, Ty was killed by an anonymous mobster shortly after the votes were tallied. I onced asked Ty, late at night in my bedroom, if I could perform a certain "trick" on her, and her response was "Over my dead body!" Well, diary, I know that she would have wanted me to carry out her last wish, so I did it.. I just hope no one was watching.

Also, I must confide in you something. I happen to know that Aurion's first name is not in fact Bill. It is actually Kratos. That would make his initials KA. And we all know what that stands for - "Kill All" of course.. Oh, by the way, I keep forgetting; why is it diary, that whenever I write "boycott" into you, the ink magically changes to text to "buy all"? I don't get it..

Furthermore, the magnum the "judge" uses is called Swift Justice. Initials SJ. And 12.3% of us know what that stands for - "Sans Justification" of course.

Just saying..

vudu - As I wrote earlier, do you then, by any chance, remember Good Grief, Afternoon Delight, The Immaculate Election, Meet the Veals, Righteous Brothers, Mr. F, Forget-Me-Now, and The Cabin Show? Because they were in the 2nd/3rd season, and they were just as good as the best of the 1st season..

It was determined long ago. This game was made for the GCN and REV. The first of its kind. The best of the franchises.

I don't know about that... I'm having a really hard time believing that the Rev controller was already finalised when TP first started being developed.

From a business perspective, this probably is a good idea.. I'm not denying that. However, I would be angry because..

They would be essentially delaying the game to add in features that you can't even use unless you buy a Rev, which many Cube owners will not. So the GameCube owners will get cheated, since first they have to wait longer for a game when the system hasn't had meaningful support for a long time, but ALSO they won't even be able to use the features that caused the delay..

And I can't really explain it, but I want the first Zelda on the Revolution to be ... pure.. I want it to be like OoT, where it shocks the world with how brilliant it is, and it uses everything the Rev has to offer, just like OoT did for the 64. Everything.. Just putting controls into TP will ruin it for me, and I definitely don't want it to be experimental as you are saying. THAT's why I don't like this - I want to feel like I did with Super Mario Bros or Super Mario 64 when I first played them. If this comes out first, it will cheapen the whole thing for me.

Maybe I'm too sentimental though..

It's exactly like how OOT made the control scheme we know today and how Majora's Mask expanded on the gameplay

But OoT was made from the ground up with the 64 in mind; the controls were originally 64 controls, and everything was done with the 64 in mind. This is completely different - TP was made for the GCN - the whole game was based on the fact that it was coming out on the GameCube. Changing the direction to include Rev controls when the game is basically done is not the way to do it. In fact, it would have been better if Nintendo didn't even announce the new Zelda at E3 2K4 - they should have developed it solely for the Revolution. A realistic Zelda at launch which used the controls perfectly and all the power of the Revolution would be a much better indication of the Rev's strengths; adding this functionality will not be. I know that if this happened the Cube would be stuck for nearly 2 years without much meaningful support, and the momentum for the Revolution will be less, but still, I don't like this one bit..

I'd kill for a Dr. Mario DS with online play. If all else, I'd like to find someone who can finally beat my wife (at Dr. Mario, that is). I swear she's like a robot built for the sole reason of kicking ass at Dr. Mario.

Even if this is true, it's probably just a working list.. there's no way in hell Nintendo won't release Mario Kart 64. Maybe it's alist of games that will be available at the start, then new ones will be released as the time goes on, although if that were the case, it seems like they would release too many at the beginning.
