General Gaming / RE: Yeah, Halo 3's been announced.

But, there's a problem: Halo 3 most likely sold more bonus edition packages, which cost either $130 or $70. So, while game revenue has set a new opening record, I think the numbers Halo 3 actually sold will be about the same as Halo 2. That's not a bad thing, obviously, but it isn't the number MS needs for a real profit.
Plus we have yet to see the impact on hardware sales - that's a much more important factor..

EDIT: Luigi Dude beat me to it. But also,

Let me be flat out blunt here, I feel if people are so in love with Halo, like you are Evan, that they are IGNORANT, yes you like that term so I'll use it. They obviously haven't played far better and more complete experiences elsewhere, and so are impressed by a dumbed down, mainstream FPS, who's biggest "advancement" this next game is a video replay feature and a barebones level designer. What I want to know is how my PC FPS shooters have you played?
OH SNAP! Svevan gets a taste of his own elitism!

What?! I wanted TMNT III: Manhattan Project as soon as possible, but this is a big setback..

So why exactly were they removed?

« on: September 26, 2007, 07:55:23 PM »
I've actually seen this before... in a flash game! I found it about a year and a half ago (it's a Sony viral game, if you can believe it). Toon Crisis.

Obviously the toons are 2D and stand out more than the Rabbids do, but the idea is there.

About Rayman, it looks a bit sluggish, but I might check it out.

I don't think that's fair. Could you go back to Perfect Dark multiplayer today? I have, and it's still fun, but the refinements of Halo are better. Goldeneye and PD created a new wave of FPS multiplayer on consoles. Halo took it a step further.
I have no problem agreeing with that, and I don't doubt the game is fun, either. But every game should technically improve on others and add modes and be more playable than past ones. They have the advantage of hindsight at the expense of those past games, which obviously helps them avoid previous mistakes. Halo did this, but that doesn't really make it special.

Plus there are just so many better FPSes out there, even console ones (TimeSplitters).

England is ridiculously expensive. When I looked at the prices there and unconsciously marked them as Canadian dollars, they seemed reasonable, albeit a bit on the steep side.

That's before you multiply it by ~2.2 for the conversion.

Is it so hard to find praise for Halo 3 that you have to make up crap qualifications like that?  "It's the first to do X since the last time someone did X!"

And the two games are so different that comparing them is retarded. The only reason I compared them is because Pro thought it necessary to call Halo the Madden of space marine games, a spurious and flat out incorrect claim.

Wait.  You said something "retarded" because Pro said something entirely unrelated?

Metroid Prime still has morph ball areas, still has ice weapons, still has the same old puzzles I've been playing for years. So what? Repetition isn't bad; Nintendo gamers have a double standard when it comes to Halo.

A lot of the complaints in this thread have been about the double standard reviewers apply to Metroid Prime 3 and Halo 3, wherein Halo 3 is rated highly in spite of its similarity to earlier games while Metroid Prime 3 is derided for the same thing.  How did you manage to take people asking for equal treatment and twist it around into Nintendo fans being the ones with the double standard?

You're just doing this because you like to argue, aren't you?
Post of the year. I'm still laughing at the "first to do X since the last time someone did X" comment

In a way, I'd almost rather not have the assist trophies because every (and I mean EVERY) time a character we thought should be playable pops up, we're going to think, "Sh*t, if only ______ had been playable instead..."
I don't agree with you at the moment, but if Olimar is shown to be an assist trophy, I'm sending the fire ants on express service..

And that's it. There'd be more, but my house seriously has the power to break the Wii. Three units down! System's almost completely off my radar this generation~
Wait, so I remember when it broke the first time and NAL didn't replace it. What happened after that?

Yes, I am an NSider "refugee", however, I am just surfing the net, to see which forums will suit me best. And this forum is the first one I'll see if I'm active in. Only really good forums kinda attract me into being active.
Does.. not.. compute.

Yeah, I know it's out of context.. welcome aboard!

What about the WiFi update?

As far as Wii third party support goes, the only answer that makes sense is that none of those companies thought the Wii would sell. Then it actually came out and has become a runaway success.

If - within a year - there is not major support from Konami/Capcom/Square/etc., then yes, there is definitely something wrong.
The thing is, it's all well and good that they missed the bandwagon. However, it's been a year of the Wii tearing up sales charts, and they could at least announce some more games in development for the Wii, even if they're a year or two down the road.

About the show - my little cousin in England absolutely loves it, so when I was visiting I watched it with him. It doesn't seem too bad..

I've come to terms with the fact that the industry vendetta against Nintendo plus the absolute idiocy of third parties far overpowers their want to satisfy shareholders.

One guy, at the back of the line (like, the last person to check out), apparently heard about this online and opened his copy before leaving - scratched. Swapped and opened a second copy... Scratched. Swapped and opened a third copy - scratched. Fourth copy was the charm.

I mentioned something about "Microsoft Quality" - to which he asked if I was a "PS3 Fanboy". I said no, I'm a fan of Quality... and asked how many 360's he's gone through. I really expected him to say something like "Oh, that's bull, I'm on my first one"... Instead, he was honest and said he was on his fourth.
I said wow.

By even considering deferring your Mario Galaxy purchase, you've moved way down on my "cool" list, ShyGuy

But seriously, your reasoning is sound enough, and financial planning is always important. Next year make it a point to invest in an ETF, though*.

So here's my priority list - Strikers and Corruption were previously on it, but I've gotten them both now.

Definites

1. Super Mario Galaxy - November 12
2. Super Smash Bros Brawl - December 3
3. (TIE) Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles - October / Ghost Squad - November 6 (will pick up best one, will rent other)
4. NiGHTS - November 13
5. Zack and Wiki - Fall 2007
6. BWii - October 29
7. FIFA 08

Honourable Mentions

- Dewy's Adventure - September 4 (probably missed the boat on this one)
- Soul Calibur Legends - November 6 (it's looking better but still unsure)
- Smackdown vs Raw 2008 (why not continue Day of Reckoning, THQ? Why??)
- Medal of Honour (token ShyGuy mention, but hurts badly that it comes out with SMG)

Not interested in personally, but deserve consideration

- DDR: Hottest Party (non-spinoff DDR game on a Nintendo console!)
- Guitar Hero III (first Guitar Hero game on a Nintendo console!)
- Dragon Ball Z 3 (online)
- Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 (hopefully fleshed out)
- Godzilla (token Arbok mention)

Unknown whether will come out in 2007

Trauma Centre (would be in my Top 8)
Dragon Quest Swords (probably won't pick this up, maybe a rental)

* The usual disclaimers

EDIT: I just realised that NiGHTS comes out right next to Galaxy, too. I may have to put that off to next year.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wii-esque GCN Controller?
« on: September 24, 2007, 11:38:33 AM »
The only reason that Nintendo put the analogue stick in the secondary position is because the Virtual Console focuses mainly on 2D games, therefore the D-Pad is way more important, and is in primary position.

This is usually where I list off the numerous reasons why the Dual Shock sucks, but I don't have time for a thousand word essay..
Quote

You either have a controller with great d-pad control and decent, though imperfect, analog control or a controller with great analog control and borderline useless d-pad control. I'd rather have something that always works well than something inconsistent.
Well, what about the N64 controller? It was definitely a bit overcomplicated, but it handled the movement pad positions very well.

Yeah, I have Orb, and it works fine. The flash quality is way better than YouTube, but it obviously still isn't up to par.

Don't worry, it's required of both of you (especially GP) to post negative comments about NMH every time anyone even mentions the game. You couldn't possibly just ignore threads about a game you're not going to play.
I haven't said a negative thing about NMH before... ever.
