eDimensional Denies Internet Rumors About Potential Partnership with Nintendo    


  West Palm Beach, FL - May 5, 2005 - eDimensional, the leading manufacturer and worldwide distributor of cutting edge gaming and virtual reality accessories, today denied rumors circulating on the Internet that they were in negotiation with Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan, the acknowledged worldwide leader in the creation of interactive entertainment.    


According to online buzz, the Florida-based company is in discussion with Nintendo to license or sell its patented stereoscopic 3D technology, which is currently featured on the eDimensional 3D Gaming Glasses and VirtualFX console product, for use by Nintendo in future console systems. Several internet websites and forums are speculating that Nintendo is preparing to enhance the gaming console experience with stereoscopic 3D graphics. Because of eDimensional's ability to convert a two dimensional image on a standard television screen, using the VirtualFX, into a 3D image, some may be correlating this with Nintendo's possible upgrade.    


"While it is typically our policy not to comment on rumors or speculation, due to the overwhelming number of phone calls and emails inquiring about this we felt the need to acknowledge that eDimensional is in no formal discussion or negotiation with Nintendo regarding our stereoscopic 3D technology," said Michael Epstein, CEO of eDimensional.

29 April 2005 - Intergalactic commander, Fox McCloud, is the most famous woodland animal in gaming history. Since his introduction in 1993, the Star Fox series has gone from strength to strength, attracting a huge international following of fans. Now the Fox is taking to the skies once again as Star Fox Assault launches across Europe for the Nintendo GameCube today - 29th April 2005!    


Star Fox Assault, the latest addition to the franchise, sees a return to the intense and exciting space battles which made the series world famous. Star Fox Assault takes place several years after the team successfully averted disaster on Dinosaur planet. Players can choose to compete in head to head combat or in single player mode. In single player mode, Fox McCloud with the help of his colleagues must investigate a new threat to the galaxy where a sinister plot begins to unravel...    


Fans of the series will remember the original Star Fox on the Super NES when the first game was launched to huge acclaim back in March 1993. Starwing was one of the first games ever to use three-dimensional graphics for its action-packed gameplay. The series began by following the adventures of the Star Fox team, a group of hot-shot space mercenaries, dedicated to eradicating the universe of evil - for the right price of course! Under the direction of General Pepper, the team fought their way across the Lylat System against the evil forces of Emperor Andross, who had enslaved the galaxy. Gameplay consisted solely of air-based missions, with the player piloting the now legendary Arwing starship.    


The next step in the Star Fox franchise was the release of the hugely successful Lylat Wars on the Nintendo 64 in October 1997. Lylat Wars used the basic principles laid down in Starwing but took it to the next level. Once again, Fox McCloud and the team took on the forces of Andross but with a number of groundbreaking additions. Most importantly, Lylat Wars was the first game on any Nintendo system to feature joypad force-feedback. Thanks to the 'Rumble Pak' peripheral that was included with the game, players were able to feel every explosion, hit and bump as they made their way through the game. In addition, players were able to take on enemies on the ground and water in the Landmaster Tank and Bluemarine sub. Finally, rather than being a single player experience, up to four friends could get together and go head-to-head with intense dogfights.    


Star Fox fever reached a new height as Fox McCloud made a cameo appearance in both Super Smash Bros titles on the N64 and then later on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002. However, Star Fox first featured on the Nintendo GameCube in November 2002 with the launch of Star Fox Adventures. It was here that the series took a radical departure from the established formula into an adventure game. Fox McCloud left the comfort of his Arwing cockpit so that players could take direct control of their hero. However, numerous sub-stages allowed Fox to jump back into the seat of the Arwing and blast his way through space, in order to travel from location to location.    


The new Star Fox Assault gives you an entire galaxy to explore from the comfort of your living room. It launches across Europe only for the Nintendo GameCube on 29th April 2005 and is available at the estimated retail price of around £40.

Japanese Judges Rate Nintendo's Puppies 'Perfect' as DS Sales Increase Fivefold    


Animal lovers and Nintendo fans in Japan are proving that it's almost impossible to say no to a puppy. Nintendogs(TM), the new puppy simulator for Nintendo DS(TM), hit Japanese stores April 21. In its first week, it boosted daily sales of hand-held Nintendo DS systems more than five times the average daily sales rate of the previous seven weeks. It has become the fastest-selling DS game ever for Nintendo while receiving top marks from critics.    


Nintendogs, which launches in North America later this year, lets players pick a puppy from a variety of breeds and train it to chase a ball, go for a walk or learn tricks. The realistic puppies respond to voice commands and to a rub or a tap on the touch screen of Nintendo DS. Nintendogs makes use of amazing artificial intelligence.    


But the appeal of Nintendogs goes beyond cuteness. Four notoriously tough game reviewers scrutinized Nintendogs for Weekly Famitsu, Japan's leading video game magazine. All four reviewers returned with top scores of 10, for an extraordinary overall perfect score of 40.

EA has announced a new James Bond game, this time giving a video game adaptation to the classic, From Russia With Love.

Sean Connery to Reprise Role as Bond    


REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 28, 2005 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced the latest installment in the widely successful James Bond ™ videogame franchise, From Russia With Love ™, starring Academy Award ®-winner, Sir Sean Connery. The highly anticipated game is scheduled to ship this fall on the PlayStation ®2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox ® video game system from Microsoft, and the Nintendo GameCube ™ under the EA GAMES ™ brand.    


From Russia With Love , the game, will be based on the classic Bond film but will also feature some new plot twists, gadgets and characters. Sir Sean Connery, appearing in his first-ever videogame, lent his voice and likeness to the project.

EA and USC Team Up to Offer First Female Scholarship to USC Interactive Entertainment Summer Camp;Scholarship Designed to Build Female Profile in Growing Entertainment Industry    


REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 2005--Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS) and The University of Southern California (USC) Viterbi School of Engineering today announced that they are partnering to co-sponsor the first-ever scholarship opportunity to the USC Interactive Entertainment Summer Camp. Open to any female high school junior or senior, the scholarship will assure an aspiring female game designer a coveted spot in the unique summer program.    


The USC Interactive Entertainment Summer Camp is a 4-week program designed to help students pursue their dream of working in the video game industry. The single scholarship in the 2005 summer seasons will represent the first female registered student in the program, as the 2004 inaugural year featured an exclusively male student body. The scholarship includes free admission to the camp, room and board at USC, and three college credits for successfully completing the program.    


The USC Interactive Entertainment Summer Camp runs from July 3rd to July 30th. Deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 15th. It is open to any female high school junior or senior with a GPA of at least 3.5 and who submit both a written recommendation from a teacher and a 250-word essay on why they are passionate about video games. The songs echo the distinctive personalities and special powers of each of the Fantastic Four Super Heroes.

Challenged to master the individual powers of each Super Hero and combine them to level even more devastating attacks, players must battle some of Marvel's most notorious Super Villains, including, the ultimate evil - Doctor Doom - to save the human race from disaster.


Fantastic Four is being developed by Seven Studios for the PlayStation ® 2 computer entertainment system, Xbox TM video game system from Microsoft and the Nintendo ® GameCube TM . Ubisoft Announces the Opening of New Development Studio in Quebec City


Quebec City, Canada - April 11, 2005 - Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced the creation of a new videogame development studio that will employ 200 designers, animators and programmers in Quebec City. This announcement is part of the recently announced project to create 1000 new jobs by 2010 in Quebec, thereby bringing its total number of employees to 2000 in the province.


"Our expected growth in the five coming years will now come from both Montreal, as announced last February, and Quebec City," said Martin Tremblay,  President and COO of Ubisoft's Montreal studios. "Quebec City is a recognized creative hub and well-known for its academic institutions both at the university and college level. Ubisoft intends to play a key role in the development of the local industry and be a major contributor to Quebec City's international renown."


Mr. Michel Despres, Transport Minister and Minister in charge of the National Capital, Mr. Jean-Paul L'Allier, Mayor of Quebec City, Martin Tremblay and Stephane Mouchel-Vichard, Managing Director of Gameloft Canada, were present at the announcement.


To realize this endeavour and set up an innovative new studio in Quebec City, Ubisoft will invest 75 million Canadian dollars over the next five years. Ubisoft launched a development studio in Montreal in 1997, expecting to create 800 jobs in five to ten years. Ubisoft currently employs more than 1000 staff in Montreal. Games recently developed in Ubisoft's Montreal studios include Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, (launched March, 31st following the success of the first two Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell titles that have sold over 10 million copies world-wide), Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, (which sold 1.8 million copies in the first two weeks of its release in December 2004, double that of its predecessor), as well as Myst IV Revelation (the fourth edition of one of the most successful video game titles in history).

The Match-Making service is a reflection of the how much the Japanese video game market has changed in recent years. Japan has traditionally been a very insular market for both cultural and economic reasons – historically the majority of Japanese game developers sell few games outside of Japan and western publishers have sold few western-developed games into Japan. Until recently sales of Japanese developed games within Japan were more than enough to sustain good businesses, however, sales have decreased whereas the Japanese consumer's appetite for all things western has increased.


In the past there have been very few independent game developers as the majority of all games have been created in-house by publishers who have specialised in creating titles specifically for Japan. But in the past couple of years some key Japanese development teams have set up their own studios and are keen to work with western publishers to sell more of their games to western consumers. Conversely, western publishers are keen to break into the Japanese games market are and more likely to succeed by using local talent for complete or partial development of their games.
