UPDATE: The contest has now ended.

As of now, we are no longer accepting submissions. Due to the high amount of game ideas sent in, it may take a few days before the winner is notified. Soon after this, though, the content will be visible online. Thank you again if you sent in an entry. Well, now it's time to put those ideas to the test. Until midnight Eastern  Time, October 1st, 2005, PGC will be accepting submissions in the Dream  Games section. • Must take advantage of the innovative features of the Revolution's  controller.
    • No images (just text will do).
    • No attachments (copy/paste the article into the email).

    • The winning entry will be decided by members of the Planet GameCube  staff, whose decisions are final.

If being published at PGC isn't enough for you, Nintendo of America has  graciously donated a Game Boy Micro to the contest. Play GBA games on the  brightest screen the Big N has ever released while admiring your work on  Planet GameCube. Does it get any better? Actually, yes! And in case you're not a resident of the United States, we're opening up this contest to our entire audience, worldwide. Just when you thought you'd never see "Miyamoto" and "Haylie Duff" in the same press release...

Raise the Woof: Nintendogs Now a Part of Pop Culture

Fashion Show, Miyamoto Event Mark Worldwide Sales of More Than 1.5 Million

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The smash-hit Nintendogs(TM) already has sold more than 1.5 million units worldwide.  That' s a lot of virtual belly rubs.  Nintendogs, made exclusively for Nintendo DS(TM), went on sale in the United States on Aug. 22 and became an instant sensation.  The week of Sept. 5, Nintendogs even was the subject of a weeklong plotline in the popular syndicated comic strip "FoxTrot."   Retailers nationwide are reporting shortages, although Nintendo ensures new puppy litters are on their way.

This weekend Nintendo will host two major Nintendogs events in New York. On Saturday, real-life pooches will change the catwalk into a dogwalk as they showcase the latest in puppywear in the Nintendogs Doggy Fashion Show.  The clothes are the creations of Little Lilly, designer to the stars' dogs.  The dogs themselves are available for adoption through the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Nintendogs' sophisticated artificial intelligence simulates a real dog in every way, and appeals to a broad range of consumers.  Owners pick a puppy from 18 different breeds; the pups respond to their owners' voices with the built-in microphone, and react to praise and positive reinforcement via the Nintendo DS touch screen.

Attendees who bring their Nintendo DS units and a copy of Nintendogs will receive a special wireless message and virtual gift via Broadcast Mode from Napoleon Dynamite celebrity Haylie Duff.  Attending the event will be legendary video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario(TM), Donkey Kong(R), Zelda(TM) and Nintendogs, and television host Mark L. Walberg. The Nintendogs Doggy Fashion Show runs from 1 to 3 p.m. in Riverside Park, Pier I at West 70th Street.

On Sunday, Miyamoto will make a rare U.S. appearance for fan appreciation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Center. He' ll sign autographs and continue the amazing momentum for his latest creation, Nintendogs . The first 200 people in line are guaranteed to get an autograph, and the first 10 in line who have a Nintendo DS and a copy of Nintendogs will be able to have their puppies interact wirelessly with Miyamoto' s dog in Bark Mode.  Miyamoto also will unlock and unleash a hidden breed in Nintendogs, the Jack Russell terrier, to fans at the store.

Consumers who don't live in the New York area also will get a chance to receive the special Haylie Duff message and virtual gift at events in the future.  For details, along with downloads, video diaries and fun Nintendogs extras, visit www.nintendogs.com.

TalkBack / Emotional Attachment in Gaming
    « on: September 20, 2005, 02:43:12 PM »
Bowen Research has performed a study to see the impact of gaming on one's emotions.

Can a Video Game Make You Cry?

Today's youth feel video games will soon equal or surpass other forms of  entertainment in emotional impact

Half Moon Bay, Calif.-September 20, 2005-More than two thirds of all video  gamers feel that video games already surpass, or will soon at least equal  movies, music and books in delivering an emotional impact, according to a  study released today by Bowen Research, a firm that studies consumer  attitudes and behavior regarding high tech products, consumer electronics,  software and web sites.

"It is striking that young people today look at games as an entertainment  medium that surpasses or will equal the more traditional things that touch  us deeply, like books, movies, and music," says Hugh Bowen of Bowen  Research. "Half of all gamers think conveying emotion is extremely or pretty  important which suggests that games which can achieve more of this will be  extremely popular."

Role-playing games evoked the most powerful emotions, but despite the  explosive growth of multiplayer online role-playing games in recent years,  most respondents still feel it is the single player role-playing gaming  experience that delivers the greatest emotional punch. The next two most  emotional genres are first-person shooters, followed closely by action  games. Flying games and flight simulators ranked lowest on the emotional  scale.

While "competitiveness" ranked as the top feeling conveyed by games, it's  interesting that "honor/loyalty/integrity," "awe and wonder" and "delight"  also were mentioned frequently.

Respondents overwhelmingly cited the Final Fantasy  series of role-playing  games from Square Enix as the most emotionally rich games, and the death of  Aeris in Final Fantasy VII was the scene many people said made them cry.

TalkBack / THQ Confirms Revolution Support
    « on: September 09, 2005, 06:34:13 PM »
Company president Brian Farrell had more than a couple nice things to say about Nintendo's newest console.

During THQ's year-end press event, IGNCube spoke with Brian Farrell about THQ's plans for Nintendo's Revolution. The company president had more than a couple positive things to say, including "We are commited to Nintendo's [Revolution]."

While Farrell did say that they were supporting the console, he declined to answer as to whether or not Nintendo had issued the company development kits, followed by another rather nice quote, "We're seeing more from Nintendo now [for Revolution] than we have an any other Nintendo platform."

And so, we can add THQ to the relatively small list of developers who have confirmed support for the Revolution. However, if we are to believe what Farrell has seen, "Nintendo is waking up."
