TalkBack / Q? Entertainment Announces New DS Game
« on: July 06, 2006, 11:27:31 AM »
The game will be called Oto wo Tsunagou! Gunpey Reverse.

According to IGN, the latest Famitsu reveals a new DS game from Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Q? Entertainment. Called called Oto wo Tsunagou! Gunpey Reverse, the game is based on the 1999 Wonderswan game, Gunpey, named after its late supervisor, and former Nintendo visionary, Gunpei Yokoi.

The basic gameplay of the original title had you manipulating risng sqaure blocks (each with a diagonal line in it) until you were able to make a line from left to right. The DS version will apparently create a sound every time you're able to do so, and in repeating the process, you'll be able to make your own music. As you may expect, this is all done via the stylus.

Published by Namco-Bandai in Japan, its expected to release there in the fall. There are currently no plans to release it in the U.S.

TalkBack / RUMORS: Time Crisis Fully Wiilized?
« on: June 29, 2006, 11:05:28 AM »
Is the beloved arcade shooter in the works?

For a company that seemed to have a great relationship with Nintendo during the GameCube's lifespan, Namco's been oddly quiet regarding the Wii. With the exception of Final Furlong, no other titles have been revealed by the company. However, that may not be the case for long, as rumblings are making their rounds on the internet that Namco may be bringing the popular Time Crisis franchise to Nintendo's next console.

According to Spong, Namco-Bandai has three Wii games in development, including the aforementioned Final Furlong, with whispers of an RPG (presumably a Tales iteration), and an action game as well. While there's nothing official yet, the infamous gaming site claims that PR reps have been telling journalists that the action game may just be a new Time Crisis game. Spong, saying that the inclusion the famous light gun series on the console is a “distinct possibility," claims to have heard the same from several other sources, although none are listed.

Time Crisis seems like a perfect fit for the console, with the Zapper shell for the Wii remote being similar to the light gun from the arcade game. In fact, Nintendo had a shooting demo (including a brief level based on Duck Hunt) at E3, and it didn't even need the Zapper shell. Even so, there's not much evidence to support this rumor, and the vague explanation only furthers my cynicism.  I'd love to see it happen, but until I hear something more concrete, it's safe to file this rumor under "fan-driven."

Keep your browser on PGC as more (if any) info on this story is released.

TalkBack / PREVIEWS: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Justice for All
« on: June 23, 2006, 05:13:01 PM »
This game doesn't come out until next year? OBJECTION!

Last updated: 06/23/2006 by Karl Castaneda

The oh-so-difficult-to-attain Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was a huge sleeper hit when it released last year, and for good reason. The quirky humor, sharp visual style, and compelling story made it a great fit for gamers looking for a good text-based title. It’s hard to believe that it was only an enhanced port of a GBA game. Capcom’s set on continuing the cycle, though, and early next year we’re set to receive a remake of Gyakuten Saiban 2, which will be known stateside as Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice for All.

Not a whole lot is known right now, but we can see a few concrete details from the trailer. Maya Fey is back for more action, and it would seem she’s brought a younger relative named Pearl Fey. And while Prosecutor von Karma was vanquished at the end of the first game, it looks like he might be avenged by another character addition: the ice-cold Franziska von Karma. As if that wasn’t enough, Phoenix’s arch-rival, Miles Edgeworth is back to make your cases a royal pain in the neck.

Like the original, most of the game will involve investigating locales for evidence to use in court and pressing witnesses on the stand until they reveal the information you need to prove your client innocent. Fortunately, that’s not all; this time around, Capcom’s included a new gameplay mechanic to make trials a bit more interesting. Not only will Phoenix have to catch consistency errors, but he’ll also have to penetrate “psyche locks” in a person’s mind to uncover the truth. Exactly how he’ll do that is still unknown, however.

What made the first Ace Attorney such a steal was that, in addition to the trials ported form the GBA version, a new case was unlocked at the end of the game. Unfortunately, it’s unknown at this time what, if any, new additions will be included. Justice for All is on track for a U.S. release early next year, so stay tuned to PGC as more information on the game breaks.

TalkBack / Take Two to Develop for Wii
« on: June 09, 2006, 01:48:11 PM »
Rockstar's parent company has Nintendo's newest console in its sights.

According to a recent article at Next-Gen.Biz, detailing Take Two's financial status and development plans, it was revealed that the company is interested in making games for the Wii. Citing its immense popularity at E3, president and CEO Paul Eibeler had this to say:

"The positive [aspect] for us is that we haven't been a big player in the Nintendo platform," said Eibeler. "The reception that [the Wii] received at the E3 show is one that makes us take a real strong look at it. As we grow our sports business, there are opportunities with our sports games to extend them to the Wii system, particularly if you look at baseball, where we have an exclusive arrangement, as well as some of the other sports games that would play extremely well on the Wii product.

"...And some of the 2K products will be, [that is,] have an opportunity on the Wii. It's really a late '07, '08 opportunity for us, but it presents an additional revenue stream that we didn't have before."

When Nintendo announced last week that the Wii would not exceed 25,000 Yen in Japan (or $250 in America), most people were expecting a finalized price point of $199. After all, without expensive internal technology, Nintendo wouldn’t need to worry about recouping the kind of massive manufacturing costs Microsoft and Sony are experiencing. Surprisingly, though, the Wii may be even more affordable than that.

According to QJ.Net, Japanese retailer PC-Success had the Wii listed as costing 18,000 Yen at launch, hinting at a possible $149 price point in the United States. PC-Success has since taken down the price, but curiously, fellow Japanese online store Kakaku.Livedoor still has the same price up.

Nintendo’s staying completely silent on the topic of the Wii’s price point, and rightfully so; revealing their launch price plans certainly didn’t do Sony any favors at E3 earlier this month. It’s likely that Nintendo is still finalizing what they’ll package in with the system, and as such, the cost that Kakaku.Livedoor and PC-Success have published could be an estimate.

Iwata and Co. are keeping this information close to their heart, but with the system’s launch planned for late Fall, they’ll have to reveal it soon.   The Tokyo Game Show in September would be a good opportunity, but it could happen sooner. The only thing we know for sure is that a $149 tag, being only a quarter of the price of the PS3, could do wonders for Nintendo at launch.

In other launch-related news, a recent blog post at Jeux-France states that GameStop has sent out documents claiming an October 2nd release date for three Wii launch titles: Rayman Raving Rabbids, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and SpongeBob SquarePants. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the console will launch on the same day; the Xbox 360, for example, wasn’t available publicly until a week after launch software went on store shelves.

Furthermore, while the early launch date would secure Nintendo some thunder to steal from Sony (who wouldn’t be releasing the PS3 for another month and a half), it may be too early, as games like Red Steel are still slated for November, as explained by Chris Kohler. These release dates are always subject to change, and taking that into account, it remains much more likely that Nintendo won’t launch the Wii until November. Again, we’ll have to wait and see.

Stay tuned to PGC as more on these stories break.

We've got the winner for PGC's DS Lite Contest, but we can't find him!

Daniel Solem's entry for our recent DS Lite Contest was great, and we were excited to award him his fabulous prize, but unfortunately, he hasn't responded to our confirmation email, and by not doing so, he isn't eligible to win the new handheld. We'd hate for him to have just forgotten to check his inbox, however, so we sure you're reading this, Daniel! Reply back from the email you used to submit your entry, and we'll get you your DS Lite right away.

Unfortunately, if we don't recieve a reply ASAP, we'll have to disqualify the winning entry and move on to the runner up, Zhen Yu Li.  So hop to it, Dan, or Zhen's gonna steal your prize, and there won't be a cage match to win it back if you're slow on the draw!

TalkBack / Mega Man on Wii?
« on: May 16, 2006, 05:26:39 PM »
Keiji Inafune sees it as a possibility.

In a recent interview with Planet Mega Man, Capcom's Keiji Inafune discussed what's new for the blue bomber. Eventually, the subject of the franchise on next-gen consoles came up:

Sean: That's really great. And, one really quick last generic question, are you considering any Rockman titles  for the Nintendo Wii or PlayStation 3?

Keiji Inafune: PlayStation 3, probably the target audience that's going to purchase the PlayStation 3, uh, it's  going to be people with a lot more money, and maybe it would not be the most suitable, uh, platform for the  Mega Man series.

Sean: I agree.

Keiji Inafune: However, the Wii definitely has some potential, and it's maybe one where our target audience  could embrace the Mega Man series. So while we haven't planned anything specific now at this time, I think  probably that the potential is the highest on that piece of hardware.

While nothing was confirmed, the positive response by the series' head honcho can only mean good things in the future. Read the interview in its entirety here.

KONAMI ANNOUNCES WINNING ELEVEN: PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2007

Leading Soccer Franchise Makes Debut on Next-Generation Systems with More Teams and Expanded Modes of Play

LOS ANGELES - Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) Booth #800 - May 9, 2006 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 for the PlayStation computer entertainment system, PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, and PC, as well as the series' debut on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Nintendo DS. Marking the return of the world's top soccer franchise, the game extends its leadership position with new international teams, new modes of play and astoundingly realistic gameplay.

The world's best rated soccer video game franchise, Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 expands upon the series' unmatched realism with faster gameplay, more responsive control and improved artificial intelligence. Players will now make intelligent runs without the ball, identifying opportunities and pointing to where they would like the ball to be delivered. Similarly, the game is now more physical, with defenders jockeying for position and strikers working to turn their opponent as they receive the ball. The game's shooting system has also been refined, letting players take more snap shots, while volleys have been updated for more player control.

Players will also be able to enjoy the Beautiful Game in more ways than ever before with new play modes. International Challenge mode lets players compete through four continents of opposition to become a champion, while Random Selection Match lets gamers take the field with a group of players selected at random from a predetermined league or geographic area. The popular Master League mode returns with more options, allowing players to take complete control of their favorite team and control its destiny for an extended period of time.

The game's roster of teams is also expanded with new, fully-licensed international teams for players to use including Argentina, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden, as well as additional club teams. Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 is planned for retail launch in January 2007.
