Nintendo Gaming / RE:IGN Leaks Some Rev Specs Again! 3/29/06
« on: April 02, 2006, 10:16:20 AM »
Nintendo has never said the graphics were not going to be good, just that the system wouldn't have the horsepower of PS3 or Xbox360. Personally I think they will look fine in comparison with the Xbox 360 and PS3 on a standard TV.

My guess is that Rev games will look quite a bit better than GC at launch, if developers are familiar with the archictecture they should have little to no trouble getting more out of the graphics than most new systems.

Argh I think a previous poster had it right, wait until E3! Nintendo has never fell in line with the competition's specs yet they and other developers manage to get alot out of their systems. I don't doubt Rev will appear less "pretty" graphically than the competition, but I do not believe that gap will that huge on a standard TV. It is obvious from Nintendo's statements that they still believe upgraded hardware is a basic need for a next generation system, but they want to try something new too.

I think the reason why XBox 360 fans buy 2 or 3 games at a time is because pickings are pretty slim as of now, nothing stellar and like the N64, people are willing to pay more when there is less to choose from.

I'm not really that concerned about all these so called "Nintendo fans" leaving Rev for the other consoles, history has shown time and time again that people overreact about something first, then slowly push it to the back fo their mind. Once E3 comes around, all things will be new again, and if Nintendo can show what the games can look like then perception will change again. With the Rev's launch so far off, along with PS3, only the last 5 or so months will matter when it comes to buying descisions.

Hehe, that is something I've been wondering. Remember Nintendo stating that in America first party would be 29.99? Seems to me that NIntendo has pulled a sneaky trick on all of us suckers, raising the prices 34.95, but hey at least they are great games. If I all I have do is to get a 4.95$ knife in my back for games like AC, MKDS, and Hunters I'm all for it.

Let's just all calm down, if I recall the GC was pretty easy to develop for and it was outpowered by both consoles on paper, with similar chipsets it may be a breeze to develop great looking games for the system at launch. My guess is that within a year though XBox 360 and PS3 will surpass it. WIth that said the RAM does bother me, but I do doubt (Perhaps I'm being overly hopeful) that NIntendo would do something that would be so restricting. Finally I do still want to see what the ATI chipset can do, it may work quite well with Rev and the visual quality will be top notch on 480i. To Ian, I doubt this is just an Xbox with a remote, if you read the article they stated how GC managed to top Xbox in alot of areas graphically. My guess is that the Rev will have about 1/2-3/4th the graphical abilities (not stats) of Xbox 360.

I think some are fogetting the potential of this announcement, we may very well see DC and Saturn games available for Rev now since storage is no longer a problem!

MS doesn't allow this diverse storage potential because they wouldn't be able to suck the consumer dry through their own brand hardware in order to make up alot of their losses from the system itself. This is what makes Nintendo systems great, since they don't have much need to make up losses on each system sold, they can open things up a bit!

TalkBack / RE:REVIEWS: Metroid Prime: Hunters
« on: March 28, 2006, 02:23:20 PM »
I realize Prime is not a FPS, but it does borrow from alot of FPS controls. It seems to me that they decided to do lock on was to avoid frustrating aiming with the controller. Metroid can still be metroid, even with a more manual aiming system, other FPS have done the same thing and kept it more exploration centered rather than action (Deus Ex, Call of Duty 1 and 2, and Elder scrolls 4 to name a few). I too am in the same boat as Ian, I am not that great at FPS though am decent at the MP games along with the above mentioned games. It would be kind of neat to have a gun attachment for the Rev to use in Metroid Prime 3!

Not sure how many FPS you have played Ian on the PC, but I find aiming in those games to be much easier than the somewhat clunky auto-aim in MP3. I think the Rev Mote will help clear up this problem tremendously.

With that said I'll still be buying it, but I won't be expecting much.

I took that to mean in terms of sensibilities rather than in terms of complexity. We know there are at least two new powerups that we've never seen in a 2D Mario game before (the really, really big Mario from the cover and the one mentioned in this article. It's not going to be like the Japanese version of SMB 2 or something.

I hope you are right, BTW has there been any mention of a world map like SMB/SMW, or will the levels be one after another like YI, SMB2 and SMB?

TalkBack / RE:Official GDC Keynote Summary
« on: March 23, 2006, 12:05:41 PM »
Well to begin comparing GC game and hardware sales to DS hardware and game sales is like comparing apples to oranges, they are two different markets. I still think alot of the PSP sales are for its multimedia features and necessarily the games. With that said I think people create their own hype for these keynote speeches, they build themselves up for dissapointment, it is not Nintendo's fault.

Besides the GDC is not nearly as big as E3, so even if some big secret was revealed the casual gamers still wouldn't know! E3 is the best venue for this, and Nintendo has made it quite clear that E3 will be when the top is blown off of things. Consoles only need 5-6 months of hype before release, before that time only those closely following things will know. Anyway I think this was a solid keynote speech, a new Zelda was revealed (looks great), and the announcement of Sega games for Rev is great news. I'm sorry but Rev's backward capabilities will whip X360s arcade, which is still quite lame!

I think most GC owners will care about Rev's launch considering that the first initial buyers will be those that have bought a cube and previous Nintendo products.

I have to agree, Wind Waker was an amazing game. Personally it is my 2nd favorite Zelda, behind LTTP (I did not care much for Majora's Mask), sure it had a lack of dungeons and a lame collectathon at the end but it still was an amazing experience. The visuals were stunning and engrossed me more than OOT, the story was quite solid for a Zelda game, the atmosphere was great (time frozen Hyrule anyone? Definately one of my favorite gaming moments), and the gameplay mechanics were flawless. I for one enjoyed sailing, it was relaxing and it had enough action here and there to keep you on your toes. The boss fights were fun, if not a bit easy, but fun none the less, and the final boss fight was definately interesting with one of the coolest Zelda endings ever.

So basically you are saying what? That Nintendo had TP done around November, and would have rather it came out then, and that somehow a 1 year delay (worse case scenario) was used for Rev functionality is going to hurt the quality? The game has been in development for around 2 years and I'm sure it was focused for GC gamers! I'm sorry but this whining is really making no sense, and I can understand why there is name calling in the thread, even if I don't agree that is the best way to go about things.

You do realize the Zelda team is huge right? They are able to multitask where needed, they probaly have a small group working solely on Rev functionality while the others are making improvements to the overall game. Trust me, there is no way there could be more than 6 months MAX needed for Rev implementations, and that includes a design period, even in a smaller design team, and that could easily be a quality implementation. Personally I hope those that are talking about the sky falling end up dissapointed in the long run, serves them right for running their mouths (fingers) before there is anything concrete about what they did and how they did it.

The only problem I see with implementing Rev. features, is that GC owners may have to wait a couple more months to get their hand on the game. Chances are the game will be fully functional, with the Rev features being something that could not be otherwise done on GC.

Both parties win in this situation(except for a delay), GC owners will get a great Zelda game that is well worth the money, and Rev owners will get to play the same great game with some features (whether they are good or not remains to be seen) that couldn't be accomplished on GC. I don't see any downside to this, unless Nintendo intentionally has unlockables that could be easily done on GC or they are lazy with the GC controls. The only thing you are getting ripped off of, is a couple month delay (I really doubt this 1 year delay was just for Rev functionality).

I find it funny that people in here are stating stuff about how the Rev features in TP will be utilized, when no one knows yet! Analog stick in LTTP is the best argument? When you have a fully 3D controller, it has potential to add much more than something as simple as "analog" in LTTP.

Is it just me or are some people using no creativity whatsoever when it comes to Revolution's potential? Tilting the controller to make Mario jump is about the lamest strawman argument I've heard for fearing Rev's controller. I really think some of you people have nothing better than to do than whine and complain, even when there is nothing to whine and complain about yet!

I personally believe this has potential to be a great way to show Revolutions potential if implemented correctly. There is no doubt in my mind that the controls will be just as, if not more solid, in TP with the GC controller as previous consoles. This added feature of Revolution control could potentially show people how archaic the current controllers are when it comes to immersion and prescision control within an already great game like TP. Granted this all depends on how it is implemented, but until we have played the game I think it is silly to condemn Nintendo.
