TalkBack / RE:EB Games Wii Pre-Orders - Extremely Limited Quantities?
« on: October 13, 2006, 03:07:14 PM »
I don't recall GC getting hyped up as the big holiday "gift", so I think they are two completely different situations, not to mention that the GC never tried to attract "non-gamers" either. So once again I will laugh at all who can't get one on launch day because they were not willing to tough it out in line.

You don't live in a frozen hell-hole.

Waiting in line during an Oct. morning in NH is a kindness compared to waiting in line during a November midnight.

Spak I have to disagree a bit, I think the Wii has the most potential to be a breakout winner if it stays competitively priced and the Wiimote flips gaming on its head. In regards to PS3's visuals, isn't it true that PC gaming ALREADY has the PS3 beat visually? I know Xbox 360 and PS3 are not that much different when it comes to visuals, they both haven't their strengths and weaknesses.

Well if the software greatly reduces the programming curve for games, then I wouldn't be surprised if the money that was paid out for it would be made up, maybe within their first game!

Well maybe I will stick around my local Walmart and such at Wii launch and laugh at all the people who thought they could walk in with no problem getting a system .

Not sure where you live, but I definately did not see that anywhere around here (nor heard of it).  Not to mention the fact that with all the media attention Wii is getting, it could have MUCH more hype going for it than Xbox 360, tickle me elmo anymore? It isn't a new thing for a hot item to get snatched up quickly.

I think alot of you guys are going to be in for a shock who think you will be able to walk into your local store on launch day thinking you will find a Wii.

Ouch looks like the gap is widening by quite a bit between DS and PSP similar to what started to happen in Japan when DS started to pull away.

Shecky my PS3 preorder is in the system (in fact I paid it off just the other day). I guess I could ask tomorrow or something what my preorder number is, but I really am not that concerned, I trust the people at my local gamestop (the manager knew about both my preorder transactions).

I'm surprised this isn't getting more of a response, this is really an amazing step by Nintendo to create a more user friendly development enviroment. Now companies can focus on other aspects of the games, whether it be visuals, overall gameplay, sound etc instead of focusing on the Wii controls. Should be interesting to see what companies can develop now that one big hurdle has been smoothed out!

Not to mention people were not thrilled with having to buy the UMD movies in the first place, regardless of the price since they would most likely also buy the DVD version. UMD movies had failure written all over them even when I heard about them for the first time, having people buy an exclusive media format to PSP to watch movies was not the smartest decision Sony has made. It also didn't help that if a movie exceeded 2 hrs your battery would also die lol.

I wonder if the reason for such a niche market was because they released their games for PS2 instead of GC? It is a known fact that VJ sold MUCH better on GC than PS2, and I would bet they would have seen similar success for their other games on GC.

I am with you too ShyGy, I personally can't stand most FPSer's for consoles because the controls are all so clunky. It is about time console gaming got flipped on its ear and started to explore new (and perhaps easier) ways of interaction with the games.

Smash you should see if you can preorder early like me if you know them. After reading a bit more there appeared to be others in a similar situation like me and the reason for them being able to go early before anyone else was because they are "preferred" customers which some managers (or maybe even all) are allowed to do.

You guys should pick it up, definately worth the 30$ and most of the games play quite well with stylus. It is SUPER addicting!

Well  went in today to pay off my PS3 reserve and I was given a similar deal for reservation with Wii where they charged 50$ to a gift card and kept the card so I will get my preorder the moment they are able to fill them!

That multiplayer mode does look like a blast! Finally we get a FPS multiplayer mode that is actually unique and innovative instead of the same recycled modes that we get in virtually every FPS out there.

That is a really good price for the component, I hope the U.S. one is around 20$!

Spak you do bring up a good point, one that I have been wondering, what is the quality of the blu ray player in the PS3? It would really be something if it turns out it is poor quality and ends up biting Sony big time in the format wars.

I hope the component cable is priced around 20$ here, but my guess it will be 30$ (I sure hope it isn't anymore than that!).

You guys are forgetting the logic behind this, instead of paying the high price of 1000$ for a bluray player you get the LOW LOW price of 600$ for it that is practically a steal .

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Red Steel: new movie
« on: October 10, 2006, 03:38:59 PM »
I have a feeling that the load speeds are because of them using Demo units or something. It would  make no sense for it to have slow loading when released.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Red Steel: new movie
« on: October 10, 2006, 12:11:28 PM »
I heard somewhere that the longer loading is due to the demo units, so chances are good that the problem will not occur on the final hardware. BTW I think Red Steel proves that the Wii is indeed more powerful than GC, because there is no doubt in my mind that GC would not be able to output visuals like that at 60fps.
