If it takes some pushing from a big third party so be it. EA for example telling them they need it.

How does not having it make it difficult on third parties?   Not having HD standards should make it easier for the developer (less work) and publisher (less funding).  Also, there are many different HD standards, from this article, it doesn't specify which resolutions will not be supported.  The fact that the Rev has been announced to connect to PC monitors should show that it'll at least support the minimum or above norm standards.

Its laughable that there actually are people that believe not including HD display options on a next gen system can spell doom lol.  HD tvs is a niche market.  The cost of owning such a tv is still too high for the average consumer and will not come down significintly till after the next gen.  How many years has HD tvs been around already and the price is still out of the average joe's price range.  Also, if some family were to jump into an HD tv display, more often then not it'll be going in some type of family room which will be swarmed with people on the regular.

HD is not a factor now and it won't be next gen.  It'll only matter to all the tech heads who want to find more reasons to warrent them paying so much for a tv.  All this supporting of HD and yada yada is just so Sony and MS can get into a "who's d*ck is bigger" contest to put it bluntly.  I have yet to hear anyone this gen complain about such and such game not supporting such and such resolution outside of an online forum.  Resident Evil 4 looks more than fine on my average tv and I would love to play it on some HD standard but it isn't the end of the world.

In short, I'll like to say that Sony and MS (moreso Sony) are just going for the overkill with their systems.  Blue ray and HD-DVDs aren't necessary for next gen systems as DVDs are doing just fine for our needs now and we haven't even used duel layered in the industry.  HD standards aren't necessary becuase standard tvs are doing us just fine as it is.  All of these features are just there to jack up prices for something 80 or more percent of us can not even support.  Nintendo is catering to the masses becuase those are the ones that run this industry not the elite who have HD tvs and complete surround sound.

Yeah, the fact that, I think, Perrin used the term DVD but then Nintendo went out and made a correction to her statements later that day in changing her term to "12cm discs" shows that it could be anything.  12cm is the size of a DVD, BRD, and HD-DVDs.  I doubt they'll be using regular dvds becuase of they were, why would they bother selling a add on to play dvds?  If their games run off dvds, then it'll just be smart for them to make it a standard to watch movies.

I'm with K-rpg, I believe they'll go with their own custom variation of either HD-DVDs or Blue-ray, I'm leanin towards hd-dvd though as it doesn't benefit Sony in anyway.  The fact that they'll then be selling an add on (I guess) in the future to allow you to view dvds could mean that they can provide a dvd player now for purchase and a hd-dvd player or a blue ray player in the future depending on how the disc battle goes.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so the plot thickens lol.  I see someone seems to have managed to dig up dirt on this "noble" feather.  If this is true, it would be ironic given his name..."noble" lol.

Got me some fresh new info off the Han_Solo character over at the G4 forums.  Take it as you will.  At least it'll add more fuel to the fire lol.

This was from a member who received this this info from Han Solo through a PM

Alright, all the next-gen consoles will use High-Dynamic-Range-Lighting.

It is also a CLUE to HOW the REV will RUN!

Han Solo then went and posted this

I think Nintendo aiming to recapture the japanese market is the best decision for them.  Its only logical they would do so.  They've lost ground in their home land and over here in the US.  Of course they would first try and reclaim their teritory before they come over here and try to win us over.  Picture it as gang warfare lol,  Nintendo wants to take back their turf before they come over here and try to reclaim its mark.  Anyways, Nintendo's style is more appreciated over in Japan.  Animal Crossing and cell shaded Zelda do not get frowned upon over there as it is over here.

86
Nintendo never specified what format they were using.  They first said dvd, then changed it to 12 mm (or cm  cant remember) discs.  That could mean anything.

On another note, looks like the Rev touchscreen controller rumor is back now with force feedback lol.

Also, seems like Mario 128 has officially moved onto the Rev's launch window...according to spong

Thats good news to hear, given that there is very little known bout the Rev to begin with.  Its good to see that not everyone in japan has jumped onto the graphics bandwagon lol.

noble , didnt you have some inside info on the rev?  You've been really quiet as of late.  Do you think those specs are spot on?  I don't require you to give any details but a simple yes or no would be fine.  Also, if you answer "no" are the specs you've heard any more or less better than that?

blacknmild, that is exactly what I just posed Han_Solo saying.  He says its based off of the G5 architecture and he sees that everyone has assumed its the actualy G5's we have out today that everyone is thinking will be included.

Besides Aries, Han, and Techtree comfirming those specs, the first one to actually do so was an asian site called Unika.com on (I believe) Monday May 9th.  Here's a link to another site posting an article in regards to it.  http://warp2search.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=23404

Anyways, here's a new post from Han_Solo in responce to someone....

Havent you read the asian media and news ? i wouldnt think so, as its slowly coming to western news. Some of the asian news was very wague in the hardware, but never the less, was exactly the same specs, as the specs form each developer has recieved from nintendo. I reckon its ok for me to release this amount of info (which is much more than what the asian countries have recieved). I still havent said what the revolutionary part is . I dont think i would ever say, as thats nintendo's presentation.

Also, tell the PlanetGamecube forums folks, that their G5 assumption is correct, only if nintendo added pure G5 cores into the console. I have released i havent made it clear for you guys, and your all understanding it differently. When i said...

CPU: Custom PowerPC 3.5 GHz + 4 internal PowerPC G5 cores, 2.5 GHz each

I meant that each of those 4 cores are not the actual cores of the G5 chip you see today. They are totally redone, and customized, but are mainly of the G5 architecture (its to do with making it more efficient, shorter pipelining with more pipes, etc). i think i made a mistake on my account, so im sorry for that. But at the time, i thought you guys would understand.

The first word "Custom" in my spec sheet, refers to all the components of the IBM CPU

Seems like Nintendo will be attending some PAX exhibition in Aug. Its open to the public too. This seems like the perfect moment for Nintendo to give everyone some hands on time with the Rev so they can really see what its about. This is the approach I believe they'll take since, like the DS IMO, the Rev will not be appreciated on paper and video.

Then if your worried and skeptical about the Revolution having 4 Custom G5 cores in one PowerPC CPU, why not you answer of how xbox 360 can run 3 cores that run 500 MHz faster than each of the 4 cores in the Revolution; that are much cooler than current single G5 cores ?? Answer me that, please.....i know the answer, i want you to answer.

I cant believe this, this is total fanboyism if you ask me.

Also the Cell, has 7-8 cores running for the PS3, they are of PowerPC architecture, and they all run at 3.2 GHz, MUCH faser than the 4 cores in the Revolution that run at 2.5 GHz. Though the PS3 does have totally redone cores in the PowerPC chip, for cooling.

I have done extensive physics in the University of Western Australia, and the maths I have given is totally correct. I can go on and on with even more complicated equations, but thats if you take the subject further, i may not even talk, because its pointless repeating

If i were you all i would do now is just wait for now......( a smily face with a wink was here but it didn't get pasted)

It would be interesting if Nintendo would alow you to save some info on your PC's HD.  The Rev is supposed to be able to connect to a computer and some have made mention that it'll be possible through the usb port.

I googled up 64DD to get some more info on it and found a good site with a healthy amount of info.

Nintendo promised RPG’s where no game would be the same and vast stats could be saved. Online networks and possible play was boasted. Killer apps such as Ura-Zelda (other Zelda in Japanese) which changed Zelda around, Mario64 2, Super Mario RPG2, DK64, Mother 3/Earthbound 2 and many other titles were announced.

I too remember hearing of Nintendo's proimises for Earthbound 2.  They were making claims that the world would constantly be changing.  Whatever you did in the game world would be remembered.  If you planted a seed, over time, a tree would grow in that spot.  It was to be a fully interactive, living, gaming world.

Quote

RandnetDD Service

At first the 64DD was sold by subscription only, so you had to sign up for the Randnet service, however later on another version was released which didn't include the service or any games. The only way you could order games was buying them on line. This is probably why 64DD games are so hard to find, notably "Kyojin no Doshin 2: Kaihou Sensen Chibikko Chikko" (Doshin the Giant 2), the last game released AFTER the announcement of Randnet Service shutting down and 64DD demise.

The network would allow gamers to hook up and read/write e-mail, read a special RandnetDD Nintendo newsletter, and chat. A 64DD keyboard released by Randnet in partnership with Nintendo was developed to ease the pain of writing e-mails and chatting with the RandnetDD software. Anyway, the main purpose of the network was to connect and play games on the net.

Doesn't this service sound a little familliar to what we've been hearing about the Rev's online service?

Quote

Some of the technology used in the 64 DD was used in other projects by Nintendo: the most notably one is the Voice Recognition System introduced the first time with the "Pikachu Genki Dechu" ("Hey you! Pikachu" for USA) game: originally planned as a 64DD game employing the Capture Cassette for a voice input, the game was later converted on cart and a new unit to connect the already present Microphone was developed.
Connecting to a controller port, the Voice recognition Unit basically does the same as the Capture Cassette. The game itself is suited for kids under 12 (as stated on the box) and allows you to play with a voice-controlled Pikachu.
http://www.64dd.net/index.php?page=4008

This quote starts to sound a little bit like the early stages of what the famous Aries character spoke off.  Voice Recognition System.  If you had followed the Aries sope opera, you'd remember that he made mention of the Rev using some high tech voice recognition system.  That's all speculation but its interesting to see that Nintendo at one time entertained the idea.

Anyways, the question I pose to everyone he is "Do you think Nintendo can bring back some of their 64DD ideas, gameplay amonth others, to the next gen Rev with the inclusion of the 512 mb of flash memory?"  I'm not a tech savvy individual so I can't really put in my 2 cents on how this flash memory can be used outside of storing information.

If you want more info on the 64DD, the site I got these quotes from is
http://www.64dd.net/index.php

EDIT:  On a side note, go to the url I just gave, look at the video for Mini Racers for the 64DD.  OMFG, I had completely forgotten about that game.  Tell me that wouldn't be the perfect game for wifi play on the DS.  They also got videos of a good looking soccer game, some game called jest, Riga, and 12 Tales: Conker 64 (Conker before he got all bad ass lol).

take into account that Nintendo did say there was going to be info being dropped off here and there till the full unvieling.  I'm sure some of these "rumors" could be planted by Nintendo.  I highly doubt they are going to have press conferences every few months to announce the slightest of details.  The constant release of info will come from developers and people in the know.

This is from techtree.com.  A member over at the Nsider forums states that they are reliable and techtree were right about the Gamecube specs before they were released.

It seems in this war of new consoles the only clear profit-maker is IBM. IBM has made the PowerPC-based core(s) for the Xbox 360, the Cell processor for Sony in conjunction with Sony and Toshiba, and also the Power-PC G5 based processor(s) for the Nintendo Revolution. Not one, but four! Yes, apparently the Revolution will feature FOUR 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5-class processors, codenamed "Broadway", and a graphics processor by ATI, codenamed "Hollywood", the dual-core RN520, with 16MB of frame buffer DRAM. Technically, this makes the Revolution a bit more powerful (2.5 x 4 > 3.2 x 3, 16 > 10). The Revolution also features 512 MB of memory.

It shows 4 2.5 ghz processors

Could the 4 2.5's be what Han_Solo was referring to?  4 x 2.5 would equal 10.  Either it was a typo in his part or he let some info slide by mistake.

I wasn't really focusing on the actual tech (thanks for the link though) but moreso I was trying to point out the "stragetic" investor they made mention of.  It does make you wonder if in fact it is Nintendo who is investing in them but there really is no proof besides educated guesses mixed together with wishfull thinkin and a pinch of logic.
