Nintendo Gaming / Re: Okami (Capcom to send out replacement box art!)
« on: June 01, 2008, 03:23:39 AM »
People complain about the silliest things, boxart? credits cut? who the hell cares! I have the interwebs I can get that material any time I want.

Now for the game, I liike it so much! I've barely played 2 minutes and I know I will love it, what saddens me is that this game wasn't made from the ground up for the wii/ds and its obviously superior controls, and only deluded fanboys in denial would said otherwise. I know the implementation of the celestial brush will be simple when it could had so much more depth with the remote, but I'll live.

300 was a terrible, terrible, terrible movie, but the internet hype was not planted, but normal and expected.

I gave in in the hype of boomblox, zack and wiki and okami, so if the games suck I will blame all of you, you damn plants!.

oh god...

At least it has made me laugh a lot. I guess we'll just wait for the next awesome Nintendo game, while we see all these devs sinking to their doom, but I certainly don't care anymore.

Yeah, like an ordinary assault rifle only with ORANGE LINES WHEN YOU FIRE!

Thats already an overload of innovation for the FPS community.

Guys, this is a game about giant, alien bugs invading Washington DC and an elite, secret government agent who must single-handedly save the human race.

If this were coming out on any other system we would be laughing our asses off right now.

This is the description of pretty much every single FPS in the market right now, specially the "high rated" ones from Half-Life to Crysis.

At least this one has some weird organic weapons.

I already suspected size would be an issue, but isn't Japan the home of tiny little apartments where people sleep in coffin-sized rooms? How do they cope with that? my living room is freaking small I doubt I could do the push ups to begin with. Unless doing them sideways (not Pro's sideways of course) maybe could work, but the others? I guess this one isn't for me.

The thing is that Link actually is not a mute. He interacts constantly with everyone. The most obvious example is that there's always someone in every game with the annoying line" what is your name? is it really *insert file name*!? thats cute/is nice/whatever". There's simply no way to tell someone your name in these situations if its not by talking.

A Zelda movie with a mute Link would simply NOT work, people would hate it because it would look silly.

The real problem however is the Zelda story, which is too simple, cliche and predictable. If I were to do a Zelda movie I would go crazy and try to do a surreal piece or something similar, is really the only way I see it working.

EDIT

and a metroid movie would be awesome and very doable, the story already is fresh just by having a girl as the main character, even if she ends up as the generic blond bombshell Nintendo is trying to convert her in. There's a background story of revenge and all and it could work very well.

258
NO STEAMPUNK ZELDA. THAT IS A TERRIBLE IDEA.  STEAMPUNK IS THE NEW EMO.

YOU TAKE THAT BACK, IT WOULD BE AWESOME!

Besides, I always thought the very first anachronism was obviously bombs.

259
Thanks, that was very informative!

I think I'm going to search locally to see what the market has to offer, and I will get back to the thread in case I find something.

260
a quick google search tells me that these devices are either scarce or way too expensive, so I will have to live without capturing screens and video from the wii in 480p, also simple conversion of component signal to DVI signal seems hard (read: expensive), so I will have to just resign to s-video, thats it if I can find s-video cables in my area. I really wanted to try some widescreen wii action :( maybe not all hope is lost, I will research more about it too see if I can find a cheap solution

261
I have a question, is there some card that can capture from component cables in a PC? or PC capture devices are exclusively s-video? I finally upgraded my PC and it would be a shame if I don't take advantage of its new shiny 22" monitor for playing wii games, but the thing only has dvi inputs.

I like how Nintendo is doing nothing to bridge the "gap" and get rid of the "Casual vs. Hardcore" bull**** by encouraging us to arbitrarily separate games by those labels while voting on them.

Good jaaaoooooorrrrrb Big N!

Thats really sad. The options in spanish make some sense and don't seem so "geek" language, because lets admit it, hardcore/casual are geek terms. In spanish translating literally is like "enthusiasts" or "for everyone", actually similar to NWR rating of VC games.

I can't remember the other category well, but it was something like "ocasional play" and "intense play" or something like that.

what was the last BIG third party game released on a Nintendo platform? and I mean released properly, not half-assed ports, spinoffs or sabotaged exclusivities. Big, nice, AAA titles from million selling franchises.

Oh thats right third parties, THATS THE GODDAMN PROBLEM!

Late to the party as I'm used to! I upgraded my pc for a new shiny one, so I started to check on all the things I've been missing (its been almost 8 years since I played a "new" game, I play homeworld and thief almost religiously as much as I can, but they are old games). I downloaded the demo and found it nice, but surprisingly not scary. It's really weird, all the 50's deco design gives me the creeps, but the game is too "green" and that makes the atmosphere less creepy and more "cartoony" so to speak. I'm still on the fence about this one so convince me :D I'll probably end up buying it anyway, is it already priced $20? I hope so.

I'd say many of those points are highly debatable.

and i'd say you missed the point.  it was a humorous article.

It was written humorously but it was serious about the criticism, and save for some little nitpicks I could make I completely agree with the article.

has someone mentioned the horrible Zelda music selection? its atrocious! ATROCIOUS! The only good songs are the ones untouched by the drunk japanese remixers. I still can't believe the did such a good job on the rest of the music and so poor for Zelda.

Speaking of languages... (I didnt want to start a new thread for this)

My family is planning on taking a vacation to Japan next year, and because its a place i've always wanted to visit, i might just go with them. In the event that i do end up going, i'd like to learn some japanese.

i know there are a few of you here that can read/speak it, so i was wondering if you'd recommend any books or other methods of learning..?

So you want to learn japanese...

so where is a good bin2jpg program? I want dojo quality screenshots not the ones I've seen so far.

English is nowhere near the hardest. Was pretty easy to learn for me but then again it's very close to my native language. Maybe the "hardest language" thing is just something language teachers make up to feel better about their dead-end career, I know we've been told the same (that German was one of the hardest languages out there).

QFT.

As far as I know, romance languages (spanish, french, italian etc) have more tenses than english, conjugations specially and also irregular verbs that are a nightmare. English is a bit archaic, like japanese, both have no genre (male "cat" and female "cat" are the same word) as opposed to most other languages, articles are simple (just "the, a, an" in english, and japanese doesn't even has one), however english has an odd writting and words aren't pronounced the way they are written.

In truth ALL languages are hard, english has the advantage of being the latin of our era so everyone ends up exposed to it one way or another. Personally english and japanese were easy to learn, but I can't mantain a japanese conversation or read an article, the lack of exposure to it has harm my knowledge, I hope to make the time to start practicing again.

Nothing will ever make up for E.T. the game.

Add another dissenting voice, some of the minigames seemed fun, but at that price no way, I'll spend my money in okami and maybe mario kart. Unfortunately Nintendo won't care and it won't hurt the sales one bit.
