Ive played Thief which uses a sword as a reference. The good thing about Thief is that the game encourages you to not use the sword, is a whole different kind of game.

First person is for aiming basically, thats why if you use lock on first person is gone. Aiming in third person sucks, so if you have the option for changing freely perspectives it would be wasted in that part, because you'll choose first person if you have to aim. Thats why I say that instead of choosing the game should do it, so you dont start caring about which perspective is better.

haha it made me laugh how this evolve. I wasnt implying that rev will be tiring for all games, but for a decent first person sword fighting game you must do exaggerated movements, thats one kind of game where gentle gestures dont work. Comparison to Ping Pong or tennis games are not good, because those are more about precision than strength, sword wielding is about slashing fast and strong. DDR is also not a good comparison, because is just jumping, its a lot less tiring than moving your arms with fast and strong movements.

Oblivion actually is the example that made me realize how much I dislike the perspective, all the screenshots looked very pretty so I was curious to see it in motion, and the first thing that turned me off was the battles, I couldnt find them appealing at all, even when I tried to imagine playing them with the remote, so you can imagine what I think of  the perspective to be played with a mouse or the 360 controller.

Regarding the change from third to first person, its a good option, but I personally prefer the game changing perspectives accordingly like 3D Zeldas rather than me having to decide, it makes the experience more seamless

Thats good and all but I still think such "genre" is horrible. First person is very good for proyectile weapons and the rare case when you use special melee weapons like the blackjack in Thief, but a whole game based on meele weapons seems really dull for me. There are two types of sword fight, the really cool one, flashy and full of movements which is totally unrealistic and impossible to do in first person (for instance all those flashy spins that I like so much in the Wind Waker) . The other type, the realistic type, is boring as hell, is more about blocking than fighting, and is not really fun to play or watch at all.

Not to mention how tiring it can be, as I said, if it isnt used frequently and only appears in a mini game of some sort is fine, but waving your arm the whole game is not something I would find particularly fun.

If the rev becomes the number one console for first person sword fighters good for the console, but I couldnt care less, its a horrible form of gameplay and I cannot even imagine myslef playing a whole Zelda game using it.

It looks like Im probably the only one who think that melee first person combat is a hideous idea, even with the remote.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: IGN Leaks Some Rev Specs Again! 3/29/06
« on: April 03, 2006, 06:16:41 AM »
I stopped going to IGN ages ago for what I think its a more valid reason, the overall anti-nintendo bias from Matt's own section to the whole site. The "successful launch of the psp" and the "lackluster launch of the DS" articles were just one of many, many examples. Nothing has been more entartaining than ign (and actually the whole gaming media) having to eat their own words regarding the psp vs ds battle.

I dont see this numbers as something terrible, whether a joke or not, give me screenshots and more importantly video footage, because thats all I'll believe, and everyone should do the same if the have any memory about what happened with specs released from all three console manufacturers this generation.

I thought the norm was to not make the joke  on april 1st because it would be obvious. Basically no one believes any news reported on april 1st.

Not saying that this is a joke or not. Maybe the joke was on Matt.

I remember that show, I loved the animated part and hated the live action part. in that time they also aired the Zelda one here and I saw it maybe a couple of times. I thought the game was awesome because of the show, because I never got a Zelda game until Ocarina. Now I cant see that show without my stomach revolting hehe.

Its not just pressing a button, is pressing a button with gestures that are more natural and affect the gameplay mechanics, and you will never need to swing your arms from one corner of the room to the other.

One of the first complains after the first promo video was that gaming with the rev was going to be tiring, but the hands on impression debunked that saying that the controller was never meant to be moved across the whole room, I really doubt we have to be moving the way people moved in the video. And Zelda first person exculsively would be ugly as hell. Zelda is not a first person game it uses the perspective for some items but thats it, the controller can offer so much more than first person.

Also, Im sure Tingle RPG wasnt meant to be the Zelda game for the DS, or was it?

First person sword battle is one of the most horrible ideas Ive heard, it might be fun for 5 minutes, but anyone will get tired by swinging the remote constantly. If it ever gets implemented for a Zelda game Id expect it to be implemented on a minigame maybe or most likely not implemented at all. For sword battles I expect the usual button for swinging and gentle gestures to determine the direction of the attack, and the game will make use of it as oppose to OoT, MM and tWW where horizontal and vertical slashes were just fancy moves that didn't make any difference.

"How about a Hip-Hop G-Funk sound for the Metroid theme, have a rap beat and some smooth bass and funky keyboards?"

it really sucks that hip hop and rap are now whats considered mainstream music, Id rather have the tecno version of the music please.

Also, whats this hymn of the storm you people keep talking about? is some sort of a rearranged song of the storms?

Ive heard more than once that the number of psp movies sold were big, but I think they were comparing them to game sales, and for the movie industry, game sale numbers are pathetic overall.

The disadvantages I see in orchestrations is that they have been done to death, for Zelda, Metroid, Mario themes, even super Smash brothers themes which are a compendium of the previous ones mentioned. And also they arent cheap to produce. I dont know what kind of budget this proyect might have, but hiring an orchestra and a composer to arrange the themes is an expensive deal.

But if you could get Ikana's Castle theme from Majora's Mask with proper chorus and orchestration, I really, really, wouldnt mind at all.

Also, the song of healing from MM.

I really like that idea because I hate the new suit, it looks like rubber, and Id love nothing more for it than to be destroyed by this parasites, as long as the new suit goes back to the shiny metal I like so much.

I still need to get fusion, is simply imposible to find around here though

Im not concerned about lack of lock on for Prime 3. It would actually make the game closer to the 2D metroids, in these you have to time jumps and missile shooting for bosses, which is practically a form of aiming. Again this should go along enemy and boss design, Thardus from prime 1 for instance would be a living nightmare without lock-on, but if lock on is gone, Im sure we wont find a boss like thardus in prime 3. The challenge will come from a different gameplay mechanic.

And I love respawning, it makes you feel like Samus has really grow in abilities, the chozo ghost were the worst case of unbalance, but still, the first fight could be very challenging, but once you find them again and have the x visor and super missiles, they take only two super missles to go down, I love that! enemies who were almost imposible now are destroyed easily, and you dont have to kill them if you dont want to, since the doors no longer get locked.

My favorite though is the speed booster in the 2D games, you have this really hard time going through this long tunnel full of enemies, but once you have the speed booster, you just build speed, do the charge thing and slam your body against all destroying them easily and cruising the tunnel in no time, that is simply awesome. I wish they could implement something like that for prime 3 but I have no idea how could it work in 3d and first person.
