Nintendo Gaming / RE:So who actually liked Geist?
« on: April 14, 2006, 05:29:48 PM »
I wouldve bought it, but games around here are expensive, and I'd prefer to spend such big amount in a "safer" purchase like Paper Mario or Fzero because I know I will like those games, while with Geist I don't know.

When I read the title somehow I thought they were going to announce Snow White 2 and thus finally killing all their classics with stupid sequels.

what smaller set of buttons? the remote alone has 11 buttons (and yes the dpad counts as was shown in Metroid Prime), with the Nunchaku thing it whould be 13, thats actually one button more than the GC controller.

Now that I think about it, since the controller is so small, the so-called "unreachable" a-b buttons in the botton of the remote can be used for things like the map and something else.

Pokemon ranger I see, well I thought otherwise because the "diamond/pearl" in the title, I wonder how much the real pokemon game will sell...

I really cant decide between the A button and the B trigger button for shooting. Metroid games are about firing rapidly, and triggers arent really good for that compared to the more normal buttons that you push with your thumb. But is easier to manipulate the dpad and the B button simultaneusly than dpad and the A button.

wow, those number for the pokemon title are kind of low to be honest, is this "the" Diamond and Pearl games? or is some sort of spin off?

I had the same concern that Ian, third party developers have a really hard time in Nintendo consoles because they have to compete with Nintendo's first party, while in the other consoles they only have to compete among themselves, but then I thought that maybe the big secret left for the rev is in the final dev kits, and Nintendo wouldnt like that leaked the way IGN specs got leaked.

boooooooo I laughed

from bash.org

<JonJonB> Purely in the interests of science, I have replaced the word "wand" with "wang" in the first Harry Potter Book
<JonJonB> Let's see the results...

<JonJonB> "Why aren't you supposed to do magic?" asked Harry.
<JonJonB> "Oh, well -- I was at Hogwarts meself but I -- er -- got expelled, ter tell yeh the truth. In me third year. They snapped me wang in half an' everything

<JonJonB> A magic wang... this was what Harry had been really looking forward to.

<JonJonB> "Yes, yes. I thought I'd be seeing you soon. Harry Potter." It wasn't a question. "You have your mother's eyes. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wang. Ten and a quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wang for charm work."
<JonJonB> "Your father, on the other hand, favored a mahogany wang. Eleven inches. "

<JonJonB> Harry took the wang. He felt a sudden warmth in his fingers. He raised the wang above his head, brought it swishing down through the dusty air and a stream of red and gold sparks shot from the end like a firework, throwing dancing spots of light on to the walls

<JonJonB> "Oh, move over," Hermione snarled. She grabbed Harry's wang, tapped the lock, and whispered, 'Alohomora!"

<JonJonB> The troll couldn't feel Harry hanging there, but even a troll will notice if you stick a long bit of wood up its nose, and Harry's wang had still been in his hand when he'd jumped - it had gone straight up one of the troll's nostrils.

<JonJonB> He bent down and pulled his wang out of the troll's nose. It was covered in what looked like lumpy gray glue.

<JonJonB> He ran onto the field as you fell, waved his wang, and you sort of slowed down before you hit the ground. Then he whirled his wang at the dementors. Shot silver stuff at them.

<JonJonB> Ok
<JonJonB> I have found, definitive proof
<JonJonB> that J.K Rowling is a dirty DIRTY woman, making a fool of us all
<JonJonB> "Yes," Harry said, gripping his wang very tightly, and moving into the middle of the deserted classroom. He tried to keep his mind on flying, but something else kept intruding.... Any second now, he might hear his mother again... but he shouldn't think that, or he would hear her again, and he didn't want to... or did he?
<melusine > O_______O
<JonJonB> Something silver-white, something enormous, erupted from the end of his wang

<JonJonJonB> Then, with a sigh, he raised his wang and prodded the silvery substance with its tip.

<JonJonJonB> 'Get - off - me!' Harry gasped. For a few seconds they struggled, Harry pulling at his uncles sausage-like fingers with his left hand, his right maintaining a firm grip on his raised wang.

The mapping of button functions to gestures is ok for me as long as its sporadic and it seems in this case it is. The nodding part is interesting, is just a neat g!immick, and no, that doesnt mean is bad, g!immick is such a negative word, but its original meaning could be applied to almost any gameplay mechanic to be honest, and specially to the controller itself.

TalkBack / RE:REVIEWS: Metroid Prime: Hunters
« on: April 10, 2006, 08:08:17 AM »
I call "Normal FPS" a doom/quake clone, basically, every single damn FPS made ever since. I know of very few exceptions, like Thief, Metroid Prime, and Ive heard that also Deux Ex. Not even the armor mechanic (one number for phisical health, one for armor) has changed since those times, not the focus on onine play for that matter, and sadly lately, not even a change in scenario, is the military setting all over again, I miss my Heretic/Hexen typ of games a lot.

Johnny's review was excellent and he's not telling anyone to dissmiss the game, but the focus of the game is in the multiplayer, and if you are getting the game it should be because of that, not because the single player campaign.

Echoes was a very, very diferent game from Prime and the 2D games by the dual world's mechanic alone.

Johny already said it, all Metroid games offer new things, its not about sticking to the same upgrades, suits or whatever, is about having the same core gameplay, which this game clearly has not. The review was very worth for me, as a metroid fan and online gaming hater, this has made me avoid a purchase that Id probably would regret.

Also, I dont now how can be called "fresh" making Metroid more of a normal FPS when the genre has been explored to death.

There was an episode in two and a half men that was basically about the lost game boy of the kid, it was actually a DS when they showed it at the end of the episode, but they kept calling it gameboy.

I dont know what you people are talking about, last year game informer got exclusive info on Twilight Princess also, even an earlier hands on impression of the horse combat, at around exactly this same time. Its not like they have never got anything from Nintendo.

As far as I know theres not any title specifically confirmed for launch, all that Iwata has said is that he's "pushing teams to get it near launch" for Smash Brothers online and Mario 128 and thats it. I don't expect MP3 to be launch title and even to some extend in the launch window, Id actually wouldn't mind to wait if they need time to fully explore the controller.

It isnt, but Kutaragi isnt just a loon that want to scare his costumers, he says all this so people start expecting a $500-$800 price tag so when the real price comes people will think that is cheap. It happened the exact same thing with the psp, everyone was expecting at least $400, so when sony announced the $250 price for a value pack with even a game and a movie everyone was very quick to spell doom for the DS, because now the prices were "close", of course, the market slowly turned away from the psp because its price tag is in fact high, but also because they were the newcomers in the handheld arena, and Nintendo was more stablished and the DS actually has games worth buying and many other factors, but Im digressing :P. With the consoles is the opposite case, and this "first impression" that the ps3 is "cheap" can help to sell a expensive product more easily, thanks to the already stablished name of the product. If sony announces in the future a ps3 for $400 making enphasis for the Blue ray capabilities and even maybe a movie packed in, a la psp, people will think that its a good price, that will be the initial impression.

Thief is godly! mgs not so much though, I bought it for my PC and got bored of it pretty quickly. MGS is to focused on its cinematic parts, and with that I agree that the game is almost meant to not be played, but Thief is mind blowing, the tension Ive felt with the game hasnt been match by any other game on any other platform.

I dont see the PS3 being priced above $400, it would be stupid if is higher, the whole "get a second job" rethoric is honestly a hype tactic, so when they announce the $400 price everyone will go "oh its cheap!" when the truth is that it isnt cheap at all.
