Super Paper Mario looks so awesome, and it looks better than most games released past years.

General Gaming / RE: Sony getting hit Hard lately
« on: July 03, 2006, 02:23:07 PM »
Sony's attitude is perfectly understandable. They aren't game designers and don't care about games, their main priority right now is to get blue-ray to be the dominant media in the future, and if this is achievable by putting the playstation at risk by adding to the price tag so be it. Even if all this decisions are really dumb I don't see how sony could be doing anything differently, unless they'd completly change the direction and objective of the company.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Possible double-disc Zelda for Europe
« on: July 03, 2006, 07:58:28 AM »
Well region code isnt a poblem because we are in the same region as US, which makes possible for many original copies of the games to be available at more normal prices, of course such copies never entered the country legally. And anyway, all region codes do is to increase the sales of freeloaders.

as for minimum wage, here is monthly based, and is around $160 us dollars, legally jobs are supposed to be from monday to friday, eight hours a day, which would ammount for $1/hour. I really don't need to do any more math, is pretty obvious why prices of games here are just ridiculous. and thats using the current dollar rate exchange  which suffered from a really big low last year and is just starting to pick up again at a fast rate, by the time the wii launches the direct conversion of minimum wage to us dollars if the trend continues would be around $130, not even a whole month salary is enough to get a console! much less if the original price of $200 ends up being $300 here. I was lucky I got a job only part time but with a salary near minimum wage, but I had to quit, Im way behind in my studies and I have to catch up before august.

Or in other words, Im screwed, and I really doubt I'll get a wii at launch unless I find another job now and start to save, something I can't do. If they make the bundle for TP with the original and wii version it would be good, but if they are charging more for it then Ill rather stick with the GC one.

Edit: ouch >_< $90? and I thought our minimum wage was bad...

actually, even if the games are priced like the US, they'll be still expensive compared to the pirated ones.....

True, but at least my poor wallet wouldnt cry when seeing the prices, and I'd actually buy more games, I really want Mario Strikers and Super Princess Peach, but Im not going to pay $80 and $50 (doing direct conversions to us dollars)  for them.

nemo and his vehicles, at least you are not commenting about metroid this time

I like the first person shooter idea, but my real dream game is a flying game, much better if its with angels or other similarly winged creatures. I was excited about the rumors of the kid icarus and nights sequels, but they weren't even mentioned at E3... at least they weren't debunked so I still have hopes.

The only launch title I really want is Corruption, so it all depends how it turns out, Ill avoid the console (at least for launch anyway) only if Corruption turns out horrible, which I hope it wont happen.

and sin and punshiment will be on the virtual console no matter what mike says!  I don't care about mother so whatever :P

I thought the spell system was awesome, but it would've been nice if there was the possibility to make it more flexible, instead of having a set list of possible spells. The combat part was my only complain about the gameplay in general, but the game isnt heavily focused on that but rather in the puzzle aspect, so its not that big of a complain. I still play it, I havent finished it with all the alignments.

The easiest way to spot a fake bomb is to see if it has a visible clock, hollywood has made everyone believe that people who set bombs do it with a clock attached, but why would anyone do that? if you set a bomb you certainly dont want people to know when is going to explode, much less in big bright red displays. Most real bombs have internal clocks that only the perpetrators know without any kind of display, or they are triggered on distance.

why do I have to repeat it again? Im not angry and whining about the non-gamer aproach, Im just not a supporter of it, thats all. I don't know why people got to the same conclusion, I was just commenting about it, not arguing against it, its perfectly underestandable why Nintendo is doing it and so far I don't see a problem with it.

1241
I think you misunderstood me, Icecold. Im really not that angry about the non-gamer aproach, so far it has produced games like Nintendogs or Brain Training that I think I could enjoy, but Im not going to cheer Nintendo for focusing on this non-games instead of, for instance, Metroid. Nintendo has never said it explicitly of course, but they have said that their focus is to make my mom play games, I simply cannot go crazy about such statements and defend Nintendo left and right as many of you do, because I honestly couldnt care less if my mom or grandma pick up the controller or not, and chances are I wont like the games they are going to like. I don't hate them for focusing in people who don't play games, but I dont love them for doing it either.

The real source of my discontent with the company is the TP deal as Im sure you know. These games are all financial projects after all and Im very aware of it, but still a dev like IS created a game based on GC and they won't cram in remote functionality when it doesnt need it just so it can pass as a wii title and sell more copies. I really saw that move as something so cheap! so tacky! it shocked me like nothing else the company has ever done, not even the name, and you know how much I hate it. Nintendo was the kind of company that delayed Ocarina constantly while the N64 wasn't really doing well so the game could really be a masterpiece, they were the kind of company that sticked to toon shading when everyone was screaming their lungs out how much the hate the look. They had a vision for a game and stick to it against all odds, but now they came with this thing added last minute. In my eyes is comparable to something EA or ubisoft does, when they release the same game for every single platform in existence to maximize profits, but its obvious the quality of the game suffers as a result. So I see this as a big change in the way the company does games for their new console, and I don't like it at all, so I can't be as confident on them as used to.

Im pretty sure that if it involves children it would be illegal in many countries with the exception of Japan and the US.

Oh please kairon, it wasnt my misconception, it was everyone's misconception, just look at the title of the thread, I didnt made it :P

Originally posted by: IceCold I'm sure that even before they talked to the producers, they had considered some sort of analogue attachment. I mean, 99% of games these days use the analogue stick (the same one that Nintendo pioneered), so why wouldn't they include it in the new controller? Probably the producers came up with the idea of the "nunchaku" way of connecting it, but Miyamoto wouldn't be insane enough to exclude an analogue stick from any controller.

Nintendo wanted to make something completly different, the name alone is enough proof. I think they, specially miyamoto, were perfectly ok with dropping analog stick support. They wanted to be as far away from current gaming as possible, it appears they later realized that it wouldnt be such a good idea, and thats why theres analog atachment, a shell and VC games. Still the whole philosophy behind the console is to make something never seen before.

And I have said time and time again, I agree with you about the whole Zelda thing. However, I really think you're taking your pessimism too far - never before would I have thought that you would say such things as "I want the Wii to fail just because I hate the name" or that you would become so distrusting of Nintendo. It's like you're a whole different person in the last few months. Of course, no company is perfect, but I think Nintendo deserves a lot more than what you're giving them now. In this case, saying that this small piece of news is proof that they are not being more flexible and open with Western developers is just absurd. This tells you that? Do you even know what's happening behind the scenes with Retro and Nintendo? Maybe Nintendo is giving them freedom and accepting input, but we don't know that. I would hardly say that it is a "fantasy" that was good while it lasted..

Its known NCL is close to being a tyrant with NoA, even PGC had an editorial  called "free NoA". Maybe things are better, but Retro being involved in the creation of the controller was extremely good news, I personally was thrilled about that because it was proof of a better attitude, now we are in the dark again about it. Its not really proof of anything and it wasnt my intention to mean that, but I feel inclined to assume NCL is still not very nice about NoA and NoE, just look at the name of the console for instance...

What happened to the old mantidor?

Its gone! Im very dissapointed with Nintendo's attitude, I don't see why I should root for a company that tells us in our face we are not their focus anymore, and I just don't see them as artists as I used to. I am now rooting more for the small studios and dev teams, including those inside Nintendo like Intelligent Systems, who are going to make Super Paper Mario because its fun, not because it would help a little in their financial report.

Adult content works for films like evan's examples, because films are story-driven, but with games the story isnt important, so adult content usually looks very inmature or cartoonish. Some games are even intentionally made that way, like Larry games. Its really hard to make a "serious" adult game without ending up with one of those games that are more movies or books than actually games, like the (in)famous ero games from Japan.

But Iwata said it himself that he asked retro for advice, let me dig up the GDC speech transcript.

And urgh... more exclusive things for the wii version of TP, I can only hope nintendo gives something, anything at all exclusive to the GC version as well.

EDIT:

he didn't mention retro after all, damn!

"This sounded good, but when we shared the idea with our Metroid Prime producers, they objected. "

So cleverly worded, thats why I only believe half of what Nintendo says when the go with their PR speak, and sometimes not even that. Oh well... the fantasy was good while it lasted, that they were being more flexible and open with their western branches.

a touchscreen is a step forward, as well as number buttons, I can only imagine how frustrating is to browse on a psp.

1247
But its not just the hardware used, is the software. What changed gaming wasnt the analog stick, it was analog stick+Mario 64, and thats what was ripped off countless times by everyone else, it really wasnt a ripoff at the end, it just became the standard. The eyetoy is far from having become a standard.

No not at all. Is just that although we will never know how a GC exclusive TP would have been, it would be better than what we are going to get, thats undeniable. I really dont care at all about the game's "glory" or nintendo financial report at the end of their fiscal year, I care for the best game possible.

We jump on you because with TP Nintendo is PROLONGING THE DEV TIME and putting MORE WORK into the game, yet you complain!!!

I've really never complained about the delay, I actually was ok with the first one, what I hate is the functionality tacked in at last minute, I wouldnt care that much if the game ends up being launched in december as long as its still a GC exclusive. It wouldve been really classy for Nintendo to let it be a GC game, knowing it wont do anything for the console and how it will lose some of its sales potential, but they would have focused in their last traditional zelda game, making it indeed the best ever. Doing this remote functionality is not the kind of thing an artist does with its work, the reasons behind it are purely financial.
