TalkBack / RE: Nintendo Promotes Head Of Latin American Operations
« on: July 20, 2006, 09:08:05 PM »
Latin america in general is very homogeneous, we have our differences of course but from a business perspective there doesn't need to be radical changes from country to country, now the middle east and asia are other thing entirely.

My fear is always translation, Im a bit of an annoying purist and I rather have english, id prefer japanese of course but Im nowhere near being fluent specially in reading. But Im willing to take that small sacrifice if, and only if, Nintendo doesn't get lazy and do the proper translation for the region instead of just importing the one from Spain, I cant stand the way they talk, is disgusting (nothing personal to any spaniard out there), it really has affected the enjoyment of games like Diablo II or Homeworld 2 for me, I went as far as to download the rom for HW2 in order to play it in english even though I had an original copy. Usually the translation for movies are done by mexicans which I also find horrible but more tolerable than spaniard's spanish. The ideal would be bogota's spanish just from pure selfishness from my part, but Ive also heard is the more neutral of them all.

but seriously, at least start with the prices, just giving the same monetary value for games and consoles as in the states would be a huge step forward.

Video games are infant art, so far what I see as artistic expresion has been more accidental than actually the purpose of their creators, I consider Majora's Mask or the Wind Waker art, but the intention behind the team wasn't to create art, thats for sure. Theres going to take some time but new game developers feel like they trully can express themselves artisticly, not only with the usual elements like music and animation, but through gameplay as well.

Regarding scores, I stopped looking at them a long time ago, the games I like have a big range of scores across many reviewing sites from abysmal to superb, and the same goes for the games I despise, so an extensive review describing the gameplay and its elements is really important for me to decide to buy a game or not, even if the final number isn't a good one.

"He does seem to use this formula, but i find it interesting. Not many movies have a huge twist that you never see coming; "

Thats the problem, with his movies you inevitable expect a plot twist, the plot twist is what made the sixh sense so popular, it really invited you to rewatch it more closely, but it doesnt work anymore, the audience is tired and doesn't find it as interesting as with the sixth sense, sometimes it seems that his forcing a plot twist.

But what I really don't like about his movies is that he tries too hard,  his focus on certain emotional aspects of a scene are really exaggerated, almost manipulative. I didn't like unbreakable for that reason, the same with signs, he seriously was trying too hard to make suspense,  it was almost insulting for the viewer those long waits that he used to try to build it, which went along with the overuse of the "shock" scare (nothing...nothing... 1 minute passes...BAM! the monster/alien/whatever appears and makes you jump), I find that so lame, is such a cheap scare tactic. Probably the reason I like asian horror is that they almost never do that.

I would had never expect the term "emo-rock" to be used in an official press release, isn't it pure internet speak? and is kind of derogatory too. Or maybe I expend way too much time in forums

Hey you stole my idea!

Everytime I can't find a remote, the wavebird receptor or the wavebird itself I imagine how great it would be if the TV/GC had a button that if you press make the controller to blink and beep.

General Chat / RE: Aliens, are they already here?
« on: July 16, 2006, 09:46:56 AM »
Its not just limbs, is a humanoid or animal shape in every alien seen, which is just non-sense. Extraterrestrial life forms may have limbs of course, but thats just one possibility among many, many others. They could be huge, and I mean kilometers huge, or microscopic, and I don't see why they couldnt be intangible, like you said, made of gas, theres so little we know about our universe, we can't rule out any possibility. And why they have to be physical? they could be just pure energy, it sounds crazy but we have no proof that pure energy conscious and intelligent beings can't exist, and is a pretty big universe out there, the possibilities are trully endless.

I just hope nothing FF related ever touches Smash Bros.

Always these aliens have very terrestrial forms, and worst, humanoid forms, four apendix similar to arms and legs, two eyes, etc, which is near impossible, even if life in other planets follow the same evolutionary path that life follows here, even if they also depend on liquid water and are carbon based, the chances of them looking like anything remotely earth-y is very smalll. And those are big ifs, they only life we know is carbon-based/water-dependant but that doesn't mean thats absolutely necesary for life to appear, at least it doesn't rule out other posible conditions. An alien life form is practically impossible for us to imagine.

I haven't read 20th Century Boys, but since its made from the same author I'd say that they are probably similar.

I don't understand the rumble exactly, so its a much simpler rumble than the one in the GC controller?

30 hours of battery life is far better than what I was expecting though, still rechargables seem to be the best choice, this is no wavebird after all.

Theres no dub in Bloodlust, the original movie was made with english dialogue, the director wanted it that way.

Death Note is amazing, just in terms of quality I think its equal to Monster, but Death Note is more fast paced and its more like an intellect battle, Monster is much more full of suspense and takes its time to develop. Ive read the anime is an excellent adaptation of the manga so I guess the manga or the animation are both good choices.

Its actually just the fishing girl. The first batch of concept art was fantastic, the Zelda and Link models were very well drawn and that cover of egm was simply awesome (the one with Link and the cloaked figure and the background with the wolf and the castle), and the recent one with Link and the master sword is also a great (although Link's expression is a bit too "mature"), the soldier with the walking shield and spear looks very nice as well, but fishing girl looks drawn in a rush, its just weird among all this quality concept art that the game has.

Bloodlust is visually mind-blowing, I just loved the whole style and animation, the story is also good but don't expect an oscar worthy script or anything.

And I also saw Metropolis as a homage not only to Lang's work but to Tezuka as well, as I understand the story was written by him inspired by the original movie, but he never finished it. I also have vague memories of Astroboy so the film made me feel kind of nostalgic. I disagree that it bastardize the original it was a very well done movie.

And it has been a while since my first post in this thread, now that Monster has finished I cannot recommend it enough, is the best series Ive ever seen animated or not.

Yeah, I think it was supposed to be released in 2002 and then got pushed back.  They didn't even show it off again at E3.  Guess they may have canned it or are revamping it for 360/PS3/Wii.

it was canned for GC but not the other consoles as far as I know, the excuse was that it didn't have online. At least they can't use that excuse with the rev.

Is it me or the quality of the artwork isnt very good? for instance the fishing girl looks a lot better in the game than she looks in the artwork... its weird.

I really don't like how Im starting to not get excited about the game when something new appears, well the artwork isnt really showing anything new, but at this point I just dont care about screenshots or trailers, I just want the game.

I take it you have played both?

I don't need to play it to know how it looks :P

I don't buy the Kojima rumor, he's too focused right now in MGS4 , I bet he hasn't even thought about the wii game, he probably has a concept and nothing more, and he has expressed his love for the wii more than one ocassion. MGS4 isn't even finished why would they port some game that probably doesnt  even have begun production from a console that hasn't been released yet to another that also hasn't been released?

The tingle rumor is kind of stupid also, why would they include it? the game is going to be used to sell the console, Tingle present will hardly increased sales and probably risk a few of them, and thats Nintendo focus right now, to sell consoles not to make the best game ever, the game already has a couple of freaks anyway.

The only rumor I buy is Sonic in brawl but thats not even a rumor is more like "duh!".

How accurate has been this job announcements when predicting a game for a platform really? besides this requirements are pretty vague, I dont see it as confirmation of anything.

I just hope it doesnt suck. The teaser doesn't tell us a lot, but so far I don't have any complains. I don't remember much of the original series but I loved it, I was too little so any details are lost in my memory, which I suppose is a good thing and Ill be able to enjoy the movie more, also Im not much of a purist and I don't mind some changes in order to make it work as a movie.

I knew about hard gay but I didnt see any clips before, that was hilarious! it really tells you a lot about japanese culture, theres no way a comedian can do what he does here in the west, he would get sued and probably even beaten, just for aproching a kid he would get charged as a pedophile in no time, but in Japan they just laugh.
