Nintendo Gaming / RE: the world is over the name
« on: August 14, 2006, 03:17:48 PM »
Its as disgusting as it was day one, but we came into the internet everyday and see it everywhere in gaming sites and forums, so people like us whether we like it or not are already used to it, like a bad smell. But just because the web is accepting of the name doesnt mean people outside are, I still think is more of a marketing hurdle than an advantage. Ive only found two reactions to the name in average people, confusion mostly and some laughter, and not the kind of laughter that is good.

At this point I really don't care though, worst case scenario the rev ends up third again but with plenty of games I might enjoy, and with a real Zelda and  the Metroid game, pretty much like another GC. Nintendo won't go banckrupt inmediatly because thats impossible and I will still have my Zelda and Metroid games in the succesor of this console, thats roughly at least ten years of good gaming quality so its all good, and PC game will be around for a while as well.

Anyway This  is probably the best use of the name Ive ever seen, it fits so perfectly, too bad it doesn't fit anywhere else.

was it that hard to use locations instead of characters? I was hoping they were going to have some common sense and change it at last minute, but they decided to go for a cheap solution. Id probably would had forgiven them if at least the artwork was new, but its just cut&paste official images, it looks like something a fan with bad skills would do in a flash game, lame.

Ive always said that Corruption didn't give me a good vibe, it felt very unfinished, I have no concerns if they delay it.

The objective of the game is just to get to the goal, but you have limited gas, and you can pick up special cars that give you a little more, at the same time the road is filled with blue and red cars which will try to make you crash if you pass near them... and also if you do really well a blue superman will pass flying at the left of the screen! I didnt make the connection with the road runner character until now, and I suppose that the game I played wasn't really called road runner anyway, or is a wierd version, I don't know anymore...
I remember that one! that game was pretty cool, but I'm not sure that was the game's name :S

I just checked and found my mistake, is not Road Runner, is Road Fighter, I guess I was confused with Lode Runner and I mixed up the names.

so is piracy low in Brazil? as far as I know piracy is rampant across all latinamerica.

At least here in Colombia the "legal" price for the wii is probably going to be $300, it still is a lot of money for the economies in the region.

« on: August 09, 2006, 09:57:22 AM »
I laugh and all but I have to correct some things:

Male mantis can indeed copulate without a head, I saw a documentary and the scene was funny, cool and creepy at the same time, but it has been reported that mantis can mate avoiding the death of the male, in captivity all males die so it was thought that the same happened  naturally, but some biologists have seen males who manage to scape. It appears though that its better if the female eats the male, since she will have enough food resources to produce healthy  offspring.

About left handers theres this wikipedia paragraph:

"Statistics show that older people are less likely to be left-handed than their younger counterparts — the percentages of left-handed people sharply drop off with increased age. In America, 12% of 20 year olds are left-handed, while only 5% of 50 year olds and less than 1% of people over 80 are. These numbers are surprisingly divergent — how can they be explained?

A study (no longer deemed credible) published in 1991 claimed that these statistics indicate that left-handed peoples' lifespans are shorter than those of their right-handed counterparts by as much as 9 years. They explained this gap by asserting that left-handed people are more likely to die in accidents as a result of their "affliction," which renders them clumsier and ill-equipped to survive in a right-handed world.

Researchers now attribute most of the difference between the age groups to the fact that older people would be more likely to have experienced pressure to switch hands, a factor not affecting the younger generations. This is supported by the fact that more women than men switched hands, and women live longer than men. However, this reasoning cannot explain all variation, and "the case of the disappearing southpaws" remains a mystery.

Another theory is that some lefties switch hands later in life, due to conformist pressures, or a "biological imperative." It has also been suggested that the percentage of children born left-handed may have been increasing over time."

I personally think its the repression factor of the past, when children were forced to go right-handed, we'll have to wait another century though to corroborate that.

And I swear I read the strongest muscle was the one in the jaw, not the tongue, but I can't find any sources on that.

(yeah Im ruining the fun but at least Im not like Icecold! :P )

Now you guys know where the hell Nintendo's profits come from when the sell so cheap in the states :P

The 360 here in Colombia is around $500 dollars and the rev is expected at $300 as always so in Brazil the 360 and ps3 are probably close to the price of a small car.

Oh and I also played an old PC game of Nightmare on elm street that is far better than this NES version, I can't recall its name though, but I remember the first part was about running in the town to try to find the house while being chased by ghosts. The game had a top-down view.

how vague can patents be? so if someone patents "3D controller with vibration" it rules out any company from doing it? I think patents can't be that vague, they have to be more accurate describing the tecnology used.

General Gaming / RE: How important are graphics to you?
« on: July 28, 2006, 11:32:13 AM »
I love graphics, and along with sound they are important part of the experience, but as bill says, I prefer an artistic focus rather than a "how much polygons and lens flare can we use" aproach. My love for the artistic aspect of a game can go as far as to make me forget about bad gameplay mechanics. American McGee's Alice is one of my favorite games, despite how from a pure gameplay perspective is not that good, because the music and graphical representation is just awesome.

I loved it and all, I saw the series as well as the movies, but the concept doesn't hold itself anymore, is teenage mutant ninja turtles, if it wasn't for nostalgia I'd laugh my ass off at the stupid name and premise, mutant turtles trained by a rat? It seems so absurd now, but back then I thought it was great.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo Promotes Head Of Latin American Operations
« on: July 21, 2006, 09:54:47 AM »
is that only limited to Nintendo games? I see almost every single PC game with spain dubbing, so I thought that extended to all other games. Correct if Im wrong but I read that europeans countries are very strict about translating material, I thought it was law in almost all Europe countries that everything should be translated and even dubbed when necessary.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo Promotes Head Of Latin American Operations
« on: July 21, 2006, 07:21:33 AM »
yeah, dubbing is not that bad in mexico though, they avoid using local expressions and try to have a more neutral accent and vocabulary, any dubbing company has to anyway, but if the dubbing is made in Spain the contrast is huge.

I think that Mexico is also handled by the Latin America division, not NoA, when Kaplan was mentioning the different regions about the launch of the Wii she treated Mexico as a different region than US and Canada.
