I suspect Vudu reads only his own posts.  :D

Anything you say about the game is immediately nulled because you don't use the wheel.
Did you miss some of my recent posts? I do use the wheel, just not exclusively and I didn't start using it until more recently. A few posts up I talked about trying the wheel online for the first time. Earlier I mentioned that I also have a wheel-only license which is 100% complete, except for a three-star rank which I am still working on.

However, when playing single-player (especially in the tougher cups) the lighter karts have a distinct advantage because they favor acceleration over top speed.  Rarely will you get to drive at top speeds for long without getting screwed by the CPU.  If your kart has poor acceleration you're going to have a hard time catching back up.
I think that depends on two things: a person's skill level and the cup in question. With the Flame Runner/Bowser Bike (the statistically best vehicle), I can achieve leads so great that no amount of blue shells will dethrone me. I have much more trouble with the Quacker (fastest accelerator in the game). However, if it's the Mushroom or Shell cup that we're talking about, a high-accel vehicle might be a wise choice as those tracks are so short and easy that I can't really reach a large lead.

Waluigi being large bugged the hell out of me. I don't like driving the large vehicles so I had to switch back to Luigi.
What's wrong with the large vehicles? They are statistically the best. I want Birdo to go on an eating binge just so he can become large enough to drive them.

This is exactly why removing hopping was such a travesty in Double Dash.  In MK64, I could dash from 8th place, hop, bounce off the head of the big lug in front of me, and land in 1st place.  You could get amazing air doing that.  I once landed on the top level of the double decker battle stage after boosting and bouncing off of DK.
Interesting, I never even thought to try that. I didn't care about the hop missing from Double Dash!! because I had never found a useful application for it. It's annoying that it is still lumped with the powerslide button in MKWii, it should have become its own button. That's one reason why, in some cases, Automatic is better than Manual since you don't hop before powersliding with Automatic.

Anyways, all of this recent discussion about the wheel has encouraged me to finally try it out online. Surprisingly, I actually fared pretty well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sekeEJwysNg

The only achievement left in the game is to reach 9,999VR and 9,999BR, neither of which I think I can do (and it isn't permanent anyway). Therefore I guess it's time I try and see if I can master the wheel.

Sit-ups won't trim dat AZZ.  You'd have to practice knee-bashes and back-kicks.
Pop Tarts aren't a proper breakfast until you include Coca-Cola Classic.
Well, it's obvious I don't really exercise since I don't know what exercises do what.

Don't even get me started on Coca-Cola...

Is it really any different than sweet cereals with marshmellows or chocolate flavoured cereal pieces?  Reese puffs taste like you're eating a bowl of peanut butter cups... which is exactly why I love them. :)
There is a difference, yes. The dessert flavours of Pop-Tarts are replacing the regular flavours. With cereal, I can still get Cheerios, Shredded Wheat, Cream of Wheat, Malt-o-Meal, and plain oatmeal. Soon I won't be able to get non-frosted, fruit-filled Pop-Tarts. I guess there's still the option of Toaster Strudels and not using the icing, but those need to be toasted and seem sweeter than Pop-Tarts.

I've heard it is best to have six small meals a day, which will help keep your metabolism up. That's not what I try to do, because I don't really have the chance to do that. In my case, it really does matter what I eat even if I stick with the three-meals-a-day-and-no-snacks type of diet, since I don't exercise much and a slow metabolism runs in my family. Therefore I couldn't replace a meal with a dessert like Pop-Tarts or a bag of chips because those foods don't contain enough vitamins and minerals, and all of that fat and sugar is going to stay with me.

Though I don't think it is ever a good idea to eat desserts or fast-food or any of that. What you get out of your body depends on what you put into it.

I had no idea there was a cookie dough Pop Tart though.  Now I want one.
Ah dirty floors, I've inadvertently advertised for Pop-Tarts. :-\

To preach to the choir, i'd like to say, WHERE'S MAH DAMN CONSOLE RPG
What would be the point? Even if a third dimension were added, it'd still be the same game with a different presentation. Plus, portability is one of the draws of Pokémon.

What I think would be a cool console Pokémon game would be one which uses a battle system that's similar to Smash Brothers. That'd be the only way to make it not boring.

I should have screen-capped it as evidence. :-\

General Chat / Pop Tarts are a dessert
« on: May 04, 2009, 06:11:46 PM »
Pop Tarts used to be a somewhat-acceptable breakfast food, but almost every flavour available now seems to resemble a dessert and is overloaded with sugar. Even the few remaining fruit flavours now have frosting on them; the only non-frosting flavour left is strawberry. It's been pushed to a small space in the corner of the shelf and is often sold out, so I'm not the only one who misses the simplistic flavours of Pop-Tarts.

I don't know how Pop Tarts can still pass as a breakfast food; with all those empty calories they're a lot more in line with desserts. If I eat that much sugar, it's going to go straight to my butt. I'd have to do, like, 25 sit-ups just to work that off.

Just look at this listing of flavours from the back of the box:

Chocolate Chip
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Chocolate Fudge
Cookies 'n Creme
Hot Fudge Sunday
Strawberry Milkshake

It's like I'm naming flavours of ice cream.

Nobody really drinks beer just for the taste.
Nobody drinks cheap beer just for the taste. Some of the more expensive stuff is actually pretty good.

Welcome to the ranks of the vanquished, Yoshidious. I tried baking some Yoshi Cookies but they ended up more like Muku Cookies.

Why do some of the threads say "Mafia XXXIII" and some say "Mafia XXXIV"? Which is it?

I was thinking of the jumping events which required you flick the remote at exactly the right moment and at the right speed.
Those were definitely tricky the first time I tried them. Now that I've figured out how they work though, they are easy.
Not all of those games were difficult though; the very first time I played the Javelin Throw, I broke the world record.

I'm not sure what the problem is though. Isn't it a good thing that the controls have some skill development?

16737
I decided to be nice to you despite the fact that we disagree about everything.
It appears we agree on one thing, that you should still try to be nice to someone you disagree with. :)

Don't forget, it would be kind of like re-releasing both red/blue and gold/silver because of the inclusion of Kanto.
Not really. That was just a lame way to extent the game; none of the original game's events take place, many areas are missing, and none of the Pokémon to be found have levels higher than those of the Elite 4. It's more like a really huge Safari Zone.

And they've already re-released Red/Blue, so why would they care?

16738
Remember, this is inexcusable if this was done by any franchise. But since this is Pokemon this is almost forgiven :p .
Ha ha, it's strange, that's so true, and I didn't even realize that until you pointed it out just now. I never hear anyone complain about Pokémon games being too similar to their predecessors, but people go to town complaining about Mario Galaxy, Animal Crossing, etc. If these remakes do surface, somehow I doubt we'll hear anyone complain about how they aren't Nintendo being "loyal" to their fanbase. Pokémon was designed to be exploitative, which makes it acceptable. It would be "disloyal" of Nintendo if they actually tried to revolutionize the series.

Someone once said that Wii Sports Golf is too similar to NES Golf...

I was thinking that Netflix could be a good partner, but it seems they are interested on doing their own thing.
How about BlockBuster? Their business has suffered as a result of Netflix's popularity and this might be a way for them to retaliate.

I am concerned, however,  that the review says nothing about the supposed balance board support. I think it WAS a rumor that ran amock.
If reviewers weren't even aware that Excitebots has online play, we can't be so sure they aren't overlooking the Balance Board support in this game.

I expected that the "normal" round would be easy and the unlockable mode would be the hard one the series is known for. With Metroid Prime 3's "normal" mode actually being the easy mode, it's a trend with games as of late. The only complaint I can envision about that is that you can't play the "hard' mode right away.

16741
What's the point? Diamond and Pearl are already so similar they might as well be remakes. This is just an (even larger) excuse to be lazy.

As for the controls, the problem was that some required precise timing and mastery.
The only one I can think of like that is archery, possibly skeet. The track and field events are ridiculously easy.

By the sound of the impressions I posted, it seems the controls will have more variety this time around.

I've never specifically changed the battery in an NES cartridge, but I have changed them in N64 and Game Boy games, and I can't imagine it'd be any harder to do NES.

It isn't hard to do if you have the right tools and are careful. You'll need a 3.8mm GameBit to open the cartridge, which you can get from eBay. The best way to do it is to get a soldering iron, because that's the best way to secure the new battery. Be VERY careful not to drip solder on anything other than the battery holder, or you could ruin the game. Use electrical grade solder.

I myself used electrical tape. If you go this route, make sure you use a big wad so it doesn't slip off.

You'll need a razor blade of some kind to cut the top battery contact off of the battery, but be careful not to break it completely. When you put in the new battery, either solder the contact to it, or wrap it in electrical tape.

The type of battery you'll need is CR2032. You can get them at RadioShack:

With things like Netflix offer video streaming on the PC, I wonder if this will attract any attention? I guess it will depend on what the price is. The only advantage I can see over Neflix is that it allows the movies to be easily watched on a television rather than a PC monitor.

Everybody deserves cookies!
Only those who remove their shoes upon entry.

The voting has not gone very well this game, but at least now I don't feel so bad about getting a townie voted out.

It doesn't matter how you dress up an online store, that still isn't shopping! If you order something online and call yourself a shopper, that would be like buying a pound of ground beef and calling yourself a hunter. You get the reward without the fun part.

I've never played a pokemon game, and I've refused to do so until Nintendo turns it into what it appears it was meant to be. A MMORPG.
It was meant to be a simplified RPG. I don't think it would work very well as an MMORPG because that would take away much of its simplicity and charm.

I loved those commercials solely for the feelings of classic retro rivalry it stirred within me. I remember those days well.
I hope they do a new wave of those commercials.
Such commercials definitely helped sell the first game, but said feelings needs to exist in the game this time around.

I could see a situation where collectors can purchase content via DD and pay for the disc+box in addition to be mailed to them for an extra fee, and all still cheaper than what a normal retail copy would cost, heh.
That's not a bad idea, but I doubt it would be less than current retail games if for no other reason than companies would figure that if people were set on getting a physical copy, they'd pay a premium price for it.

That still eliminates the need for retail stores though. I still want to shop for games too.
