TalkBack / Re: Pokemon Gold and Silver being remade for DS
« on: May 08, 2009, 12:35:18 AM »
Now why am I not surprised? I hope this isn't an indication of what to expect from E3... get the lame announcements out of the way now.

most people seem to agree Gold/Silver/Crystal were the best games in the series.
That may be because they had the biggest improvements out of all of the iterations, and at that point Pokémon was still relatively fresh and everyone hadn't gotten sick of it.

This is like the yearly sports game really... roster update and not much else.

In other words, the controls are very well suited to the gameplay, but the gameplay itself is so weird and defiantly stodgy that some people never get into it. The game is very strictly tile-based, even when you aren't literally standing on a tile, as Mike always moves per unit of space.
It's this restricted control that makes the controls feel sluggish and unresponsive, it feels like a step down from Zelda. Combine that with the half-second invulnerability and no knock back when hit, and it makes escaping and dodging enemies needlessly difficult. Every loss feels cheap. I think I got about halfway through the game before I got fed up with the abysmal control.

I'd recommend this game only to people with a tolerance for NES games. It's nowhere near as playable and accessible as games like Super Mario Brothers.

Random question for NinGurl69*huggles:
How did you make your author icon change pictures every time the page loads? This is just something I've been curious about for a while now...

This is getting more ridiculous than Dance Dance Revolution.

So much for the chance to hear Mop It Up's real voice. Phooey.
Real voice? You make it sound like I've been using some kind of fake voice.

Maybe we can get Mop it up on the 'cast one of these weeks.
After all of this talk about how old my computer is and the things I don't own, do you really think I have a PC microphone?

I've been told that my voice sounds like a cat walking across a piano, methinks you'd just find it annoying.

Maybe you can get used to them easily, but I can't, especially not after playing the much-improved sequel. Combine bad control with the almost complete lack of invulnerability after getting hit, and it's a recipe for disaster.

StarTropics is difficult for the wrong reasons: the controls are terrible. When a game is difficult in this way rather than by design, I don't feel like I could ever improve at such a game.

Hooray Newbies!

That animated avatar is guaranteed to scare away any new people.

This user is guaranteed to scare away any new people, eventually.

Because of me Stratos and Mop_it_up have stuck around. Unfortunately my efforts to scare away a certain someone have failed miserably!
Actually, I'm still here despite your harassment. I can't let you win.

Things don't always work out however. Take me as an example, I've been here for over four and a half years, and there are still some people who don't get my name right.

To be honest you were away for 3 years, which is why I don't recognize your username from anywhere other than your recent posts that started last year.
I know, I was being facetious with that whole line. I was just trying to inject some humour into the thread.

I see. I guess it's the digital distribution which enables developers to create these former April Fools jokes since there's less financial risk.

So, wait, is this WiiWare or a retail release?

I don't know if you had this "not voting till you have to" strategy in play on purpose. You have done that the last 3 games. Maybe this is a good strategy for you.
It may be a winning strategy, but it's no fun.

What is up with the recent influx of new members who make a single post in a years-old topic with nothing of substance to say?

The implication that Miyamoto would just crap out a game instead of meticulously crafting it in his perfectionist way is clearly defamation of character.
That wasn't a metaphor. Even Miyamoto is human and has to poop like the rest of us. Sometimes he meticulously crafts his excrement into a game.

Did Miyamoto even have any involvement with Wrecking Crew?

As far as the game having conversational worth, as long as the people involved in the discussion have different opinions, any game will have something to talk about. Clearly that's the case here, since I don't agree with either of you that it's a good game.

Exercise ball, that's not a bad idea. I should invest in one of those, they look fun.

Seems like you could make a new topic about desserts, everyone likes desserts. I'd probably go with pie, though I don't know if I could pick a favourite filling. There are too many good kinds. They're difficult to make though so I usually just buy the Hostess fruit pies.

I wasn't going to say anything but you had to go and insult Miyamoto which is something I will not stand for.
How was what I said an insult to Miyamoto? Even his crap is better than 90% of other games.

I sold the WiiSpeak because I don't need it... or didn't need it. The store I was at had only the bundles, so I bought one and sold the accessory. The only reason I got the game was because two of my friends had it and wanted me to get it, neither of whom have WiiSpeak. We just talk on the phone whilst we play.

But then, a couple people on another forum I visit bought the game, and when they found out I had it they kind of insisted that I play it with them. My friends aren't comfortable with the possibility of random people showing up when we play, so I created a second character to use for people on that forum.

If there are now people here on this forum who want to play, then I think I'll create a third character. It's a strange way to organize things I know, but that's the way I like to do it.

If anyone who plays with me wants to use WiiSpeak I don't mind, but it might be kind of awkward since I have to use the text chat.

And I think that the reason not too many people have played it is because it got lost in the launch of 18 titles.
I think you should play the game before deciding why few people have played it.

NWR Mafia Games / Re: Mario Paintball Mafia Signups
« on: May 06, 2009, 07:55:35 PM »
Trust me...it isn't that confusing...it really is a modified Mario Kart Mafia.  If you can follow that game, this game will be easy.
Even regular Mafia is weird and confusing, but there's nothing wrong with that.
Are the Mario Kart Mafia topics still around? I'd like to read through some of them and see how the game played out.

I never said anything regarding you being who you were to Dasmos. He guessed that from our behavior.
Dasmos told me that you told him I had been talking to GoldenePhoenix, which I hadn't been. That was one of the things which tipped him off.

So I just found the game with WiiSpeak for only $40 on Amazon and decided to get it with my birthday money. Should be getting it in a week or so. Expect my FC up shortly. I've never played an AC game before so I'm highly curious about trying it.
Wasn't your birthday like a month ago? That's a long time to hold onto that money. Did you get your Internet service back yet?

I need friends, Stratos and MiP PM me your friend codes NOW!
Who is MiP? It had better not be me...

The game looks interesting, but I'm waiting for some reviews before I make my decision. If the game uses too much waggle (DK Barrel Blast) then it would just be annoying.

Has NWR gotten a review copy yet?
