One more question: In terms of heat dispersing, it is better to position the system horizontally or vertically? Or does it not matter?

Since the system was pretty gunky, I figured it was likely some dirt or something that was preventing the disc drive from closing, so I took a cotton swap dipped in surgical spirit and stabbed it into the slot, scrubbing anything I could reach. This got the drive to close! But then... it had the opposite problem, and wouldn't open up, now stuck closed. I tried to pry it open and have probably bent the front of the drive a bit, but it wouldn't pop out. Eventually, I slammed my fist onto the top of the system as it was trying to open, and in a Fonz sort of moment, this worked to get it to open back up!

Deciding maybe I should stop fumbling around on my own with this thing, I looked up some information and guides. After seeing what the inside looked like and how the mechanism worked, I noticed that two of the gears and a belt could be reached without opening up the system. So I concentrated on cleaning those with a surgical spirit-dipped cotton swab. Once waiting to make sure it was dry, I closed the drive, and so far it seems to be back to working properly! Though, at some point a small piece of metal and a couple screws fell out of the drive, so I hope that isn't an important piece...

Finally, after twelve long years, I can at last play the Burger King games!

Okay, so now that I'm trying to put a disc in, I can't get the disc tray to close. I press the button and it closes up, but then it makes a whirring noise for a couple of seconds and opens back up. Any ideas?

I tried the system and it seems to work, so I s'pose I don't need to open it to clean it. I didn't realise it was so complicated to open. I'll just be careful to not spill fluid into any holes or seams as I wipe off the gunk.

The only issue I noticed is that the disc tray has trouble closing. Sometimes it'll pop back open, and sometimes the system thinks it's still open when it's closed. I tried wiggling it a bit and that got it to close and be recognised. It might have some sticky stuff on it too, but I may be able to clean that without opening the system itself.

It's a bit of a bummer that changing the Xbox Live name costs money. I guess I'll just have to stick with his account name...

It was a two-disc game on 360 and I think it *required* a hard drive. Not so much a problem now (USB drive support got patched in) but potentially a problem on Switch.
Yeah, that's what I was referring to when I looked it up. An 8 GB install on one disc, and the other disc also has 8 GB if people choose to install it as well. I didn't look into how much more data any updates added, though.

Though, there are already a number of Switch games with more than 16 GB, including some that require a download for the full content.

The eBay route isn't as bad as it once was. Listing is now free, you pay only if it sells. Some of the extras are free now as well, you can have up to 12 pictures at no cost. The three costs you'll incur from selling are 10% of the sale price goes to eBay, 2.9% goes to Paypal, and then you pay whatever it costs to ship. Also, fees now apply to any shipping price you enter, so you can no longer try to pay less fees by entering larger numbers for shipping. Because of this, it's better to just select the "free shipping" option and factor that into the base price.

I think the problem with a Switch version would be fitting all that data onto a game card, and it would also be a large download from the eShop. Isn't the game huge, data-wise? I guess they could skip some of the updates, but that may not be a good idea.

I don't think it's a power issue since the game is on the Xbox 360. Which is an option for me since I just got one, but it's a game that requires an install and uses a lot of space, so I guess that's out the window...

I'm just wondering what happened to Pikmin 4.

Physical games still have some monetary value which is one reason I still prefer them. And even if a Switch game has part as a download, it still takes up less of the premium storage space available to Switch.

Look at something like Splatoon on the Wii U.
While I understand your point, this isn't a good example because all of the content added after launch was for the online multiplayer mode. Therefore, even if all the content were on the disc or stored on the system, you still couldn't use it once the servers are gone as you could no longer play online.

Now, Splatoon 2 is a different matter since it has local wireless play. In that case, you would be missing something for offline multiplayer.

I just checked and it's 14.2A. So that's bad, but not as bad? Any steps to reduce the risk?

Also, got any cleaning tips? The discs are pretty dirty too, if anyone knows how to clean those.

Looks like I'm also now a late member of the Xbox club, as my older brother gave me his old Xbox 360 now that he's all-in with Xbox One. I figured bumping this topic would be a good place to put this.

First off, I'll get to the few questions I have:
-What's the best way to clean the system?
-Are there any common issues that would be easy for me to fix?
-Does opening up the system require any specialized tools?
-Is there any real way to reduce the risk of the Red Ring of Death?

He said he isn't sure if the system works anymore since he hasn't used it himself in a while, being used by his kids instead. I can tell, because it's really gummed up and needs a good cleaning. I haven't tried it yet to see if it works, or what may be wrong with it if it doesn't.

I am pretty sure the system is one of the original models, as it has a separate Wi-Fi adapter and only a 60 GB hard drive attached. I think that means it's also a ticking time bomb for the Red Ring of Death to happen.

I got three controllers with it, but only one has a battery cover. Is there a place to purchase replacements? I also noticed that the controllers take two AA batteries. I thought these things had rechargeable batteries, or is that a later model? Or is there a separate battery pack to buy?

Also, wow, this AC adapter is huge...

Woo, a date! I really liked the demo, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the full game turns out.

Because we all know the one thing people wanted in Mario Tennis was the most-beloved feature (weapons breaking) from Zelda BotW.

I've learned a little bit about this game (kind of tough to not), but I think it might still be worth trying.

I never played this game before, so it sounds like I have a truck full of content to unload.

Oh goodie, I can soon try out this game. I've been curious about it.

For the physical release, the third game will probably be a download code.

1267
Really clever title. Really.

Is this a new game, or are they localizing the third game that was Japan-only?

Here's hoping for Adeleine!

While I like the ones I've played, I feel like I already have enough of this series and don't need any sort of "greatest-hits" package.

1271
I think it'll be 2018 no matter what, and they may take the Splatoon approach where the game launches with less content and they trickle out more characters and stages in updates at no extra cost.

1272
That isn't quite the two-player mode I had in mind for this...

1273
This feels a bit random. I always liked the graphics better on DS and before, so if they're redoing the graphics, I'm not interested.

It's too bad they don't sell the extra Bowser Jr story separately on the eShop.

1274
I'll do $20 on Travis Touchdown in Smash Bros. Switch.
