And I'm telling you, MP: Hunters will have sucked a big pile of ass without the precision of the touchscreen.

The ability to play console FPSs with the same degree of accuracy as a mouse is something which has never before been done and yet we have it now with a handheld console.

It depends if they ship each controller with a cradle or not.

If each controller comes with a cradle, then they haven't stripped off any functionality because the Rev can still behave exactly like its competitors. If the cradle is sold separately, then I agree because Nintendo is basically forcing the notion of the remote on everyone without providing a secondary option without purchasing extra hardware.

In that vein, I think each controller NEEDS to ship with a GC controller cradle. Companies have enough resolve to try new things with the Rev's controller, and I believe (hope, anyway) that Nintendo won't be foolish enough to not give 3rd parties the option.

The "My way or the highway" attitude won't win them any friends here and I think they know that.

Meet the Book of REVelations (sorry). That's the source of that picture as well as many others.

Apparently, it was sent to Japanese shareholders of Nintendo stock. I used to get similar documentation when I owned Pixar stock.

An iTunes Store styled DS download service? (they already intend to do it with the Rev...)

Holy crap...

Whether or not the game could have gone without the touchscreen is irrelevant.

The question is "Is it more FUN because of the touchscreen?" The Rev doesn't have to justify the controller as being the only way to play a specific game, just give the player a more enjoyable experience than they would have had using a regular analogue stick.

On that note, a friend of mine had the program which emulated what Nintendo is pushing, only it was from E3 with the downloadable demos.

True, but it should have been.

I'd take a firmware upgrade which let me browse DS demos from home any day.

Nintendogs is an excellent example, but MP:Hunters is far better. The precision in aiming which will be found through the touchscreen will resemble a mouse, making a console FPS tolerable for just about the first time ever. Aiming to shoot your opponent will actually be plausible, rather than favoring explosive weapons with splash damage for easier kills.

Arcades seem to be rapidly diminishing here in the states.

As both an arcade lover and a DDR enthusiast, it sucks.

Sony fanbois will still rejoice that they have the ability to play a version of Nintendogs which, despite lacking touchscreen and microphone support, they will claim is superior.

I think it's what he died for which is the issue here.

If my son died defending the freedom of our country, like against Hitler's regime or against Bin Laden's Taliban fighters, it means his death went to protecting the lives of others, including Americans.

In this case, the kid died so Hali-Burton could plunder billions in oil from Iraq and then mysteriously "lose" the records as to how much oil was taken.

I don't know anything about her or why she does what she does (it might be personal motivation), but if I lost a son under similar circumstances, I doubt I'd have a scrap of sanity left to call my own. If you really want to discuss it, send me a PM.

And yes, when they cut down the ugly tree, it fell on her.

No one wants just a bunch of talk from a company that's been underdelivering for nearly ten years now.

So the DS is just chopped liver, then?

I agree that it's all BS until we see some proof, but the DS was the same way and look how well THAT turned out.

If they don't screw it up, Nintendo could do some great things with this new concept.

Phoenix Wright: Your honor, my opponent is a flaming assh*le using a convenient crusade against gaming in an attempt at bolstering his presidential chances, and I can prove it.

Jack Thompson: OBJECTION!!!! Who the HELL do you think you are?!

Judge: Overruled! I want to see where he goes with this. That's quite a claim, Mr. Wright. Do you have evidence to support it?

PS: I do, your honor.

JT: This is an OUTRAGE! Do you have any idea who I am?! Any idea what I've done for the people of this country?!

PW: Your honor, I have here a printed copy of everything Mr. Thompson has ever said on the internet.

Judge (reading): Hmm...goodness...unthinkable...reprehensible!!! You are certain that these are the words of Mr. Thompson, Mr. Wright?

PW: I am, your honor. Everything written in those documents was taken directly from his own statements.

Judge: Mr. Thompson, is this true?

JT: Of course it is! I stand by every word of condemnation I have directed at the developers who have made their money off of corrupting the minds and hearts of our children.

Judge: Hmm, I see. In that case...

*Dramatic pause*
*Flash to picture of Phoenix*
*Flash to picture of Jack*
*Flash to the whole courtroom*

Judge: Bailiff, take Mr. Thompson out to the parking lot and execute him.

*Courtroom explodes in applause*

There's a greater danger that people will start spiking PSPs, actually.

The new screen style makes it more difficult to see the pixels, resulting in a clearer image.

Compare the new and old GBA SPs: the screens are INSANELY different.

I'll be buying a DS lite and retiring my existing one to being a permanent AC town for my friends.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Rumour come True? Zelda: TP Forward Compatible?
« on: February 08, 2006, 09:40:59 AM »
If this was Reggie's quote on the subject...

Quote

Reggie: Exactly. I think that our senior management has made it very clear that bringing Zelda: Twilight Princess out on GameCube is important, that we want to satisfy the GameCube fan base and have it be on that system. You've said the obvious, which is that [because] Revolution's backward compatible, it will almost effectively be a launch title for Revolution. The trick will be what makes it special to play on Revolution, and to the extent that we could create something like that, boy, wouldn't that be fantastic? Certainly one of the things that I would love to see is something that makes Zelda, when it's played on Revolution, do something magical. And I think that any Nintendo fan would love to see that.

Then I think we have to expect SOMETHING more than simply fishing with the Rev controller.

I expect it to be more like RES where you use the stylus to knife-slash enemies but it's not the main focus of the game. The mounted combat would be perfect for this.

My bet is that TP will be released sometime before or after E3 (soon after).

Imagine Nintendo demoing the possibilities of the REV with many different titles that are underway. Then imagine them bringing the already released or about to be released TP to the stage floor and Miyamoto showing us how TP will play on the REV. Miyamoto shows us how sword fighting on horse-back will be that much more immersive, with him holding the controller up towards the ceiling and Link holding his sword up towards the sky. He then jousts the Pig boss and realistically slashes the boss right off of his horse.

Miyamoto for the WIN!

How much hype would that build?! It would be IanSANE. In fact, it would blow away any margain of doubt left in even the most skeptical. What better game to show how classic gaming can improve then the best series of all time?! If they launched TP directly afterwards, people would go nuts. They'd buy it just for the prospect of playing it on the REV sometime down the line. However, they'll enjoy it on the Cube no doubt.

Then before the REV launches (starting in September/October), Nintendo reminds us of the gem of a game we already have and it's ability to be played on the REV. Not only that, but shows us again how killer games such as Metriod, Smash Bros., Mario Paint (wishful thinking) and the OFFICAILY ANNOUNCE Camelot RPG play on the REV.

REV would be locked up

Gah, it's posts like that which can whip me into a fanboy frenzy if I'm not careful...

A hard pad helps, unless you have your soft pad firmly attached to the floor to prevent it from sliding (velcro strips will work wonders for this, so long as you have a carpet underneath the pad, and you can get them at any hardware store).

To add insult to injury, the one PS2->GC adapter which actually worked with dance pads seems to have gone out of production, preventing the usage of hard 3rd party pads with the GC.

Yeah, a lot of the happy trance would have been a shoe-in.

My only guess is that they pay licensing fees every time they use those songs whereas every song in Mario DDR was either Nintendo based or public domain.

They're all pretty good songs, though. With an average DDR yield of 60-80 songs, I can tolerate listening to about 5-10 of them. The rest I find to be repugnant garbage.

I could actually listen to Mario DDR's music casually without it making me want to punch something. I have roughly 5 favorites, but I find the entire soundtrack at least tolerable which is far more than I've EVER been able to say for any other DDR game.

The collective bitching about Mario DDR not being difficult enough is ridiculous, even though Bowser's Castle and Midnight Drive are 9 footers on challenge.

And I was stunned Konami didn't just recycle in a quadrillion of their other songs into the game to inflate the song count.

Still, the truly hardcore DDR players own a cobalt flux ($300), a USB to PS2 adapter ($15) and Stepmania for the PC ($0), which effectively allows you to "sample" every DDR song ever made, ever.
