Hey, I said it would be more boring filler and I was right on the money.

They aren't, but world state interactions on a local Wii are sharing CPU power with the network interactions.

It's the same reason you can't play some MK DS levels online: some of them are too much for the DS to handle while maintaining an online connection.

I like the Gametrailers reviews. They seem pretty straightforward.

As for the whole debacle, I watched some of Jeff's reviews and he's a pretty straight shooter. If I had a review site, I'd hire him.

Wii Fit has an extra accessory so it's kinda a wild card.

Game like that typically sell out but typically don't ship enough to meet demand.

When I'm Santa's age, I plan to be a dirty old man, too.

What's the point of being an old man if you can't be a dirty one?

Can I predict "More boring Naruto episode-like filler" and just be right for the rest of the week?

It's like waiting for the real updates to start back up again...

How about "Something we already knew about from E4All"?

These are completely different situations.

Halo 3 and MK: DS can both tolerate some latency without the gameplay being absolutely destroyed. SSB, however, just doesn't have that luxury.

We all know how important reflex and timing are to success in the game. If the online play would see some speed loss for ANY reason, then the game basically goes out the window.

I'm quite certain that millions of players will grab SSBB on launch day in order to test their skills against their online friends, but if the game can't keep up with the overhead and starts to lag, then nothing has been resolved. You're no longer fighting to see who's the best at SSBB but to see who can compensate for lag the best.

But beyond that, items are great, sure, but they're not intrinsic to the game. You can still have a competition of skill against another player without them. As much as I dislike tourney rules, sometimes I would turn off items and just duel with a skilled player (on the rare occasion that one was around).

It's not just the items themselves that could cause issues, either. Keep in mind that items bring with them a plethora of graphical effects which could potentially lag the game.

A screen with multiple legendary Pokemans firing off their specials could very likely lag a game, as could some of the particularly flashy final smashes. Nintendo seems confident that items and online won't be an issue, but this doesn't mean that it wasn't reasonable speculative a concern.

Let me just say that, having dealt with networking code and the issues it raises myself, I'm DAMN impressed at what Nintendo is doing here.

Four player online alone is a bloody miracle, and with items running is just icing on that cake. It's not unreasonable to expect they might have been out of sugar before then.

If I didn't have piles of other things to play (dumbass xmas gaming flood...) I'd have been working on my Hard S-ranks by now and getting all the weapons upgraded fully.

I'm not arguing that items are good for the game. I'm saying that they DO add network overhead because it's one more facet the world state manager needs to maintain and track on up to four separate Wiis.

Remember how Mario Kart DS only gives you half of the tracks for online play? They'll sacrifice gameplay elements for latency reasons if the addition to the overhead will make the game unplayable.

The additional latency from items falling about the stage could have been the straw on the camel's back for the game (though my money would have been on four player online).

The online in a 1v1 game like Street Fighter has even been lambasted for its poor performance, and that's just two players on a single dimension with zero other interferences. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if turning items off makes games less laggy and more manageable.

I agree that SSB just ain't the same without items, but I'd rather play without items than play with lag. SSB is even LESS the same with lag involved.

I agree.

The game is easily the best lightgun game I've played. I hope this bodes well for taking the genre in new directions.

You mean besides common sense?  Yeah.

The question was reasonable to raise for online due to issues of latency.

Fighting games with online modes are a dicey situation already, and I don't believe there's ever been a 4 player online fighting game with the physics intensity of SSBB. Items will add even more to the already sizable network overhead.

It's not uncommon to disable certain features in games in online situations due to bandwidth restrictions, be they graphical effects, certain stages or other features, and items could have been one of those.

I've always loved MST3K.

We've watched Star Trek 5 and Predator with this so far, but the fact that they have the Harry Potter movies means I might need to try those next...

Haha, so true.

As for friend codes, the only logical explanation is that Nintendo is thinking of updating the Wii's system and doing away with system friend codes in favor of a better system at some point, hence why games now have their own so they don't get their online infrastructure ripped out if Nintendo updates.

Also, I believe we knew about 4 player online before.

Skatebording minigame added to WoW, confirmed.

Seriously, this is a bit...scary. When two giant companies combine like this, it's one step closer to less competition in the games industry, though Activision and Vivendi weren't really competing with each other.

RE4 Wii Trailer >>>> Geometry Wars Trailer, sorry. I mean, they even got Luke Wilson to play Leon.

As for the wrestling trailer, they have absolutely no qualms about selling with sex, that's for sure, but if the motion sensing works well, then the game might actually be pretty fun.

1169
You could get around it in programming by simply telling the game what size TV you have.

They moved live to windows so they could abandon the xbox hardware line at some point in the future.

Why else would they move the primary selling point of the xbox hardware to the PC platform?

1172
That's true, but from the description, it sounds like the sensor bar is one solid unit like that of the Wii.

1173
The irony here is that TC4 features a bounding box like the Wii remote is normally faced with dealing with.

Also, despite the fact that SC:Legends is supposedly pretty bad, it still outsold TC4 by 5,000 units and both games debuted in the US this past week.

Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it, Banco.

Here's hoping. Otherwise it's inexcusable.

But then again, most of the levels would be very redundant with the "3 platforms and some random obstacle or maybe not" design...

Glad to see the temple and is back and the "Cave of Invincibility" along with it.

He just kinda choked and slouched over. That's nowhere near as bad as implying that the flesh has been burned from his bones.

I honestly think it's a glitch, though.

Nintendo doesn't seem to mind isolated instances of brutal violence (see wolf  Link's Poe soul ripping)

Yeah, PETG was all up in arms about that.

Seriously, though, they were ghosts. It's one thing to have the protagonist die a grisly, graphic death, but plucking glowing balls out of a ghost isn't going to traumatize anyone.
