Kairon:  Why do you have doubts?  The NST team worked closely with Retro in many aspects of Hunters, and so Retro already has a start with new characters to include in the game, I more precise controller to use for movement and combat, and they have some of the most talented programmers and artists around.

I think Metroid Prime 3's multiplayer will rock.  I think the problem is the sour taste we have from the first attempt...but I think the problem with that is Retro was still limited by Nintendo and the franchise in how to develop multiplayer.  I think the new game won't be limited at all, and include some amazing battles and great WIFI support.

If Nintendo can get a Metroid Prime 3 game with the depth of a true Retro singular player Prime experience...and then expand on the multiplayer aspects of Metroid Prime Hunter, then I think we have a killer app on our hands.

Seriously, although the character designs on some of the new bounty hunters were weak, the overall addition of the characters made Prime: Hunters a much better game.

I would love to see those characters, and a generic Space Pirate, and a few new bounty hunter characters added into a Revolution multiplayer experience.

Perhaps they could even figure out a way for a person to play as a Metroid in the Multiplayer game.  Nothing would be cooler than to have a mode were you have to hunt the Metroids down and the Metroids are Player controlled, and able to regenerate life, and absorb the life force of others.

Wow.  I can decide what is funnier.  Everyone able to slam Ian about rants and opinions before they happen...or the fact that Ian then actually does said rants after the fact.

It is like he is our very own Planetgamecube Forum stereotype.

"That just Ian."

"Oh, Don't be an Ian."

"You just Ian posted."

I can see those sayings now.

If it is Nintendo Power's exclusive then I bet it has to do with an actual Nintendo game.

I would predict either Metroid Prime 3 or Smash Brothers Melee Revolution information...and Prime 3 being the most plausible.

The reason is simple.  Nintendo Power is the perfect place for Nintendo to prehype information before E3, and also provide them with additional revenue from a sweet exclusive.  And Prime 3 and SBMR are the games America already knows about and would greatly appeal to the American audience.

At this point I am 100% positive Prime is going to be a launch game and therefore, is going to be furtherest along.  With that said Nintendo Power getting a few pictures and a run through from a demo level would seem like a great exclusive story.

No the game has a balance.  It is important at times to use brutal fast kills in some sections, but other times, if you can spare someone's life they may decide to help you.  This isn't every character just the leaders of the groups you are fighting.  I think it has to do with having mercy on someone.

I hope they have several different ways of sparing someone's life.  One such mentioned was disarming them by shooting the weapons out of their hands.

I hope you can sneak up on them and hold them up as well...for that would add a very important stealth element to the game.  Though, I hope it is more fluid than in MGS.  I never understood why you have to catch them completely unaware for pointing a gun at someone's head to work in stopping them.

I also hope leg and arm shots will cripple CPU so that they may stop fighting, and you can keep them alive that way as well.

Actually, Nintendo could easily upgrade the RAM and the storage memory without problems even with "Nintendo Spec sheets" out there and developers under one impression for now.

I wouldn't expect to see huge jumps specially in RAM.  But would it surprise anyone to see the RAM jump from 88MEGS to 128MEGS?  Its not a huge jump compared to the competition, but it would be 40 MEGS more to play with.  That would be pretty significant.

I don't think we really have any idea what the SPECS are going to be...but it doesn't matter.  What we know is that first generation games will not be the end all be all of this systems limits.  Developers will be getting more out of this system for years to come, and already we are seeing some awesome graphics.

And Nintendo Revolution appears to be launching with 2 First Person Adventure games.  Both will probably focus on intense multiplayer battles, and will most likely have online wifi play right out of the box.  This is important news for Revolution to be successful in the US, and to be taken seriously.  A killer multiplayer experience will do wonders for Revolution's image.

Then add Smash Brothers Revolution, and Super Mario Revolution and you can have a very successful launch.  If EA Games even gets one simple Revolution game ready and online for launch then we will have a very American friendly launch.  And you know that Nintendo is already prepping itself for a great Japanese launch.

Wow.  I don't know where the angry comes from, or the idea of Spite towards the fans.

It seems those quotes indicate that Next Month's Magizines will have more than just Red Steel.  We are going to have glimpses of many 3rd party games...and these games are functioning on only partial development kits not final kits.  That is pretty impressive.

I am beginning to wonder if Nintendo is going a last minute RAM upgrade.  Obviously a CPU upgrade isn't possible...but Nintendo could affordably, and easily up the RAM available for the system...I also wouldn't be surprised to see that internal memory boosted up to something like 1 GIG.  Simply yet important upgrades like that could make the system steller.

Anyway, I am getting excited about the Revolution more and more.

Good art direction so far for the game.  Good colors, and an interesting environment to fight in.  Hopefully the entire game will be this good.

The graphics look better than this current Generation...and actual does feel like Xbox 360 or PS3, just no High Resolution.  I am perfectly ok with that.

Ceric:  You bring up a good point.  Look what good engineers can do for $100.  Create a functional Laptop.  Pretty amazing.

Sure it is completely basic, but hey sometimes you just want a Laptop that can do the essentials for you...and if I could get that for $100 that is what I will buy.

Now bring that logic to the Revolution.

Hey I want to buy something for my family to play with.  Here is a game system for $399 and on for $150.

Sure the $399 is going to be better.  Potentially lightyears better.  However, I have $200.00 to spend.  By default the other system is too much.

Now, lets go into depth of the Revolution and see what it can do.  Oh, it has pretty graphics better then the current generation games.  It has a unique controller to create original content and games.  And it has a business model that embraces cheap quality gaming, instead of higher production higher cost business model.

I guess the point is...it is amazing what you can get for you money when you have talented engineer teams working together.  This is important because your money should not be spent wastefully, but should be carefully measured and the product should fit your personal worth for it...and a fair market price for it.

Kairon:  That sounds like corporate back peddling.  Just like Nintendo did when Perrin let out the whole 2-3X Gamecube remark.

Immediately Nintendo made a comment that those comments were true and Nintendo hasn't let out any official annoucement about specs.

This news got out and Sony wanted to do damage control.  Now the question is will this damage control also leak into lower the price for consumers in the end...and that is a big Ehh...maybe.

You don't want to reveal all the mysteries of the characters ever, because then there is no mystery or magic to them.  Now Shannon and Boon live in a special place of speculation within all of us.

The show is much like X-Files for every clue and answer it gives the show produces 3 more questions.  And although the mysteries seem too great to ever unfold, you also have the since that they are just a few episodes away from revealing everything.  Seriously, I believe they could reveal the secrets in a proper way super fast whenever they need to, and it would work.

They won't because toying with the fans is what keeps the show fun and alive.

Some of my presumptions are also based on the fact that Sony has gotten arrogant with this market.

Look at their huge success, stealing first place from Nintendo with PS1.  Incredibly maintaining and gaining a lead with the PS2 this generation.

All the analysists are predicting a PS3 repeat, no matter what Sony releases or price point.

If I had all that support I would be feeling pretty cocky as well.

Now add into the mix that you believe you have the NEXT big media format for movies and beyond, and it is being integrated into the PS3 so everyone that buys your system will be established user base not just for your games, but also for your movies and I would feel even more invincible.

I believe all this will lead to Sony making bad decisions, like pricing higher than competition, and such.

I believe with each new generation of games it isn't a single companies to lose, but a brand new start for every company to show their stuff.

RHOQ: But it isn't comparable.  The PS3 is said to be more powerful...and even if that isn't true, the PS3 allows you to play Blue-Ray movies so that you have added value.

Sony could get away with the price just in the fact that it could be the cheapest Blue-Ray  video player on the market (which I read somewhere.)

Mantidor:  When is $400.00 cheap to anyone?  $400.00 would be getting a second job for some people...and that would still mean you probably aren't leaving the store without spending over $500.00-$550.00 on the system.

Look at the technology in both the Xbox 360 and PS3.  They are basically really nice and impressive computers.  If you were to go out and buy a computer with these specifications you would be spending this much money easy.

I remember before computers were good at doing games that console systems were always underpowered compared to today's computer market, which is why they were so much cheaper...but the console's very design allowed it to do games great.

This is what excites me about the Revolution, the fact that it isn't going to be $400-$500 dollars, and that it is being designed specifically to play games and take them in a new direction.

Even if it is released at $400 nobody will say that is cheap.  And I have my doubts that $400 is even possible.

A Roger Rabbit Mystery game would be pretty darn cool.  Walk around a world gathering clues to several different Mysteries at the same time.  (There would be like 5-10 mysteries or "levels") But you play in a free roaming world of toon town and the real world gathering evidence and trying to piece which clues go with which crimes.  Throw in some crazy antics and occasional action sequences and you have yourself an interesting and enjoyable game.

Ok.  I love this show, and thought to pop in and give my thoughts on the latest episodes.

So some spoilers may be given.

DAVE is the most standalone episode this show has ever had.  I think the writers gave us a few interesting character reveals, but most of this episode was about messing with the fans.

They obviously toyed with us about the Island being all a dream, a previous theory...and about the Island being Purgatory.  Henry's rant to Locke "Do you think God can see us here?"  or something like that.

Finally I believe they are messing with us about the theory of the button.  Either one of two things is happening with the button.

1)The button isn't real and it is a psychology experiment.  That would mean that somehow the survivors found the one of the least important hatches on the island, and the experiments going on/ or WERE going on with the other hatches are all more important.  I really can't get into this theory, though if its true it would fit with the mind games that Lost writers are giving us.  (Best mind games since X-Files by the way.)

2) The Button and hatch DO something.  We just don't know what yet.  Henry could be lying to Locke and he really has pushed the button.  Locke's character theme is that he is looking for a friend or family that he can trust, and he is gulliable and can't let things go.  Perhaps Henry has gotten to him by staying and saving his life.  And now Henry has an ally to manipulate.  Remember, he wouldn't have suspected that Sayid would have dug up the grave...who would defile a grave?

The second option is that Henry didn't push the button and it STILL does something or is in the process of doing something and we don't know what it is.  This is personally what I believe...and I say we may or may not ever find out if this is true or not.

But too many wierd things are going on with the Island for this one experiment to be as simple as a test to see if a 2 man human team would continue to push a button indefinately.  Humans thrive for a purpose in life, and I have no doubt that given the right circumstances that someone told to push a button would create that as their purpose.

Of course...if there is no purpose to it...like Jack said at the end of Season one.  We are about to have a Locke problem.  And this Locke problem is going to be very big, and very dangerous.

This isn't shocking.

Just as Nintendo let slip early on that the Revolution was only 2-3X the power of a Gamecube...though I question if Nintendo won't last minute at least up the RAM...Sony also mentioned early on that PS3 will be expensive.

$499.99 is very high...but I believe Sony probably feels the price is justified.  Imagine you are not only getting a state of the art gaming system of supposedly unparalleled power...you are also getting Blue-Ray movie player to watch truly HD movies.

I really doubt that it is even remotely costing Sony $900.00 to make a single PS3.  I would doubt that it is costing them $700.00.

Really Sony may believe that with their lead in the gaming market, and the verge of a new movie format that they can afford to price the system to actually make a small profit and possible help save Sony's financial troubles.

To me this is really going to hurt Sony's sales.  Look at the systems that have launched with large price points...they have never succeeded.  3DO, NEO-GEO, Jaguar even...all had too high price points and failed in the market.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:To buy or not to buy?
« on: April 05, 2006, 06:27:25 AM »
Right now I am going to buy the Revolution as soon as I can.

Things that could change my mind are few.

1)Cost of the machine.  I already am not going to buy Xbox360 or PS3 because they are too expensive and I can't afford it at this time.  The Revolution is the same thing.  I can't drop $400.00 on a system and then still have to buy games.

2)Cost of downloaded games.  One reason I am purchasing this system is to collect all my favorite old games on to a single system.  This is the one system coming out that I do not intend to sell or trade in after I have bought it.  The reason is the virtual console system.  However, if Nintendo makes the virtual system a subscribtion service or charges too much per games, I may pass.  Or at least not buy as many games.

Those are the only two issues I have with the Revolution.

The controller to me is exciting, and I don't believe it will be a sparkling innovation...I believe it will add massive depth to games not take away depth.  And even if a developer can't figure out what to do with the new controller the controller shell is still an option.

I am not worried about traditional games though.  I have played traditional games and I am bored with them.  Or rather I have played traditional first person games, and 3D games and I am bored with them.  The classic 2D game designs and formulas still impress me and interest me today.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:IGN Leaks Some Rev Specs Again! 3/29/06
« on: April 03, 2006, 02:06:12 PM »
The more I read on this topic the more I just have to throw my hands up and admit I don't know.

I don't know what these SPECS mean in the scheme of game design and what it will allow and disallow.

I don't know even if these SPECS are real.

All I do know is that I have enjoyed Nintendo created games and hardware more than any other company...and I have never been disappointed with Nintendo's consoles they have created.

So, I will wait and see.  If these Specs are real, I will judge the system on its value and its games nothing else.  If these Specs are false I will not have wasted energy and emotions stressing on the unknowns.

As much as all of you are joking about this game.  I seriously think this will be an awesome game.

Just think for a second.  It's a painting game, that with the Revolution controller you can actually paint with "true" preasure allowing very deep and complex paint design.

Also since the Revolution supports SD Cards you can save your paintings and print them out on your computer or take to KINKOS and print professional quality creations.

Bob Ross can just be used for a tutorial on how to paint.

I dunno.  To me the chain system of the game sounds really cool, and adds huge amounts of depth to the game, but at the same time seems to pontentially make it even easier.

The game is basically BeJeweled with additional depth within chaining combos...and BeJeweled is one of the easiest and boring puzzle game I have ever played.

MMOG probably stands for:  Mass Multiplayer Online Games.

It would be a more generic term than MMORPG which indicates that the game will be mainly an RPG.

MMOG could be used to describe pretty much any online game which focuses on multiplayer interact over the internet.

It does bring the question up, what other types of MMOGs could there be besides the obvious RPGs?
