Well both the "Vacuum" and your gun kill your valor score. But in the Challage stages where it tells you to get "X" amount of points you don't get any end of stage bonuses so it doesn't matter how much you use the "Vacuum" or spam your gun. It's, now that I figured it out, how well you can clear the waves without using your alt-fire sub-weapon. edit #2: It goes without saying then that challeges that tell you get "X" amount of Valor, don't care about your on stage score at all, it tests how well you can dodge ships, bullets, and clear the stage with ever shooting your gun (aside from your smart missiles at no pentalty). Of course, if you don't take out the boss real fast you'll quickly kill off your valor, so alt fire away.

The challages unlock soundtracks, artwork, and other neat stuff. edit #1: I like the game music in particular, so i'm trying to clear all the challenges that unlock game soundtracks.

Well, I figured I was doing something wrong... i'm not getting any "XX x 500" multiplier after the first 6 waves. So I googled '+nanostray +"point challenge" ' and found out you can't use your b-button subweapon or the count dies. This I didn't know about ... kinda annoying, but now i'm sure I can get more then the 250k i've been getting...

So do you avoid most of the big ships and just concentrate on the waves alone? The big ships espicially at the end are very hard to take out without using the sub-wepons.

Edit: yaya, just got 450,000. shouldn't be long till I get the 500k goal.

Edit #2: W00t!11! Just cleared the challenge. 502k points.

Well, the "Wave x #" varies over the level, i've seen it as high as x6, but then without dying or missing a bad guy it will drop down to x3 or x4. At the end of the level where i'm just spazzing off the lightning lazer field sub weapon it doesn't move above x3, again not missing any ships.

So I dunno, maybe i'm killing them too fast (off screen)? or not with the right weapon or something?

I hate to say this, but good luck finding Nanostray anywhere these days. It was hard to comeby even in its initial weeks of release... I had to travel 20 miles for my copy of it, a GameStop that had only 1 copy. ... Perhaps I spoke too soon, looks like EB has it for sale on their website, better snatch it up before someone else does.

Anyway... on to my main point... I've gone back and done the Sunahara Desert 500,000 point challage again. I spammed my gun off and held the R-button down the whole time. Never died once and tosted all the bad guys and got all the waves possible, as far as I know. Smoked the boss, no problem, but i'm still 250,000 points short of the goal... Is there something i'm missing? Could one of the two (or both) of you go back though it? I keep doing it better and better each time, but end up with the roughly the same score 200,000 to 265,000 points...

Has anyone actually actually completed any of the challenges? I've tryed over and over and over to unlock the Sunahara Desert soundtrack, but the closet i've got to the 500,000 point goal is like 325,000. That's without dying once, spaming my gun very minimally, and next to no use of the R-button.

Well, it's your personal opinion that you hated them, I can't very well contest that. That said, it's very natural for myself and a hell of a lot less awkward for me then the "standard fare" of dual analoge or Dpad + face buttons to look around. Whats awkward about both for me is that in a fire fight I have to choose a pitch angle thats a proximatly at the angle of the player, zombie, monster, (whatever), that I need to shoot at. Then since the combat is fast and the opponet is both shooting at me and moving around, all the adjustments to pitch angle need to be done by moving forward, backwards, or side to side. It is highly inaccurate and frustrating for me and the reason I don't like console FPS games (except those that impliment some kind of auto aim). The stylus + touch screen, gives me back the aiming accuracy so that it is basicly WADS + mouse. And now I can pride myself on aiming once again.

In fact, I actually remove it using the firefox extention, Remove-it-permantly. Which is normally for use against combating Ad heavy websites. Or the kind that will place large obtrusive ads in the middle of an article

There was a forum member (site owner actually) at EvilAvatar.com who said way back in the begining, before the DS or PSP were even released, that "the DS doesn't have anything, at all, anyone would want"  (Yes, he is a heavy PSP fan.) Needless to say i've had fun being able to poke fun at him for that comment. And we still have the launch of Ice Blue and Enamal Navy to weather....

I agree and it's not that big of a deal on its own.  It's a problem in that it represents Nintendo continuing to skimp on features and make excuses and tell us what we should think is important.
Ok Ian, we get it, you need to have your ego stroked by your console and sissy remotes or stylii just don't stroke you, perhaps they even anti-stroke you. You don't like it and want Nintendo to throw millions into the dick sizing contest. But Nintendo won't and instead goes after markets where the competition is not so cut-throat, like non-gamers. So you're frustrated. We get it Ian, everyone gets it. But it isn't what Nintendo wants to do and you're not going to convince them otherwise so get over it. Nintendo should certainly know whats best for themself, better then you. If you don't like that, well too bad.

Uhm... I would assume over heating and such. They've got a lot of high power / high performance electronics in a very small space.

The only problem with that is that the remote is designed in such a way that you really couldn't use it on the go. [...] Motion control the way Nintendo demonstrated in that Rev video requires space to move around which would limit things to the home.
I'm quite sure Nintendo had the actors in the video purposefuly exaggerate their motions to demonstrate the controller. Short small motions will probably work just as well as broad sweeping motions.

no seriously. and don't count blowing on the microphone as voice recognition. allthough it sure is an easy implementation of the microphone.
Well, if you want to get technical there are also, Feel the Magic, Warioware, Electroplankton, Mario Kart, Phoenix Wright, Resident Evil, and Metroid Prime Hunters that use the Microphone or Voice Reconition and there probably are a few more games, only released in japan, that i'm just not aware of. So plently of games have made use of it, just don't get hung up on voice recognition as the only use for the microphone.

Where did you get this idea though... Nintendo has always positioned the DS as a innovative gaming handheld. Only Sony has blown a lot of hot air around saying their system is more then just great games.

Is it the new SP screen? or the Micro's screen? I bought one of the new SPs and I feel it oversaturates, actually. The Micro's screen gets it right though. I hope the DS Lite has Micro type screens vs new SP type screens.

Wasn't alot of the data between the disks reduntant as well? The FMV and textures will compress real well (assuming everything was not at all compressed in the first place). If "they" can put Xenosaga 1&2 on DS, then they sure as heck can put FFVII and/or VIII on DS. I'd buy them, since i've never been able to play them before and my friends tell me I need to play either 7 or 8.
