Have you read the EGM article? It's far more than a gimmick. There are entire missions comprised of mainly on foot work. Like when you save Leia from the Death Star and such....

852
Those games are still exclusive. Yes they have announced that other than RE4 they won't be bound the the GCN....but they are still in development only for GCN. If one of them does really well then they might port it to Xbox or PS2 but I doubt they would waste their time on it....and I think they like the GCN a little too much. I doubt P.S.4 will start any porting until the GCN games are complete.
And then again, if a game does really good, Nintendo might "influence" Capcom to keep it on GCN. So that brings the probability of going multiplatform even further down. Personally I only care about Viewtiful Joe and RE4 as long as they redo the controls and stuff...

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo has something even bigger...
« on: April 24, 2003, 11:46:30 AM »
They showed a few screenshots of Mario Kart. Big deal. They have to leak a little bit of info to get us hyped. Once, we get to see the game at E3, we'll get the real deal. Who knows what else is in the game?

And about Rebel Strike....Lucasarts is the publisher of that game. While Factor 5, pretty much a Nintendo developer except with free will (they even designed part of the GCN), is developing it, Lucasarts is the one that decided to show it to EGM. And besides, it sort of makes sense. Tell some details before E3. Then show the game in motion at E3...

Nintendo Gaming / DVD GBA

Actually you can get your GCN portable now Stick on of those battery/screen things on it and you'll have almost an hour of play time! weeee

Um...obviously the GBA will not get an SD card adaptor. But one was announced for the GCN since it was unveiled. If they still release that.....
Then you could hook your GBA to your GCN and have the GCN do the processing and the GBA do the screening But of course that presents some probs:
1. You're TV is right there in front of you.
2. Nintendo is never going to get the rights for movies and put them on SD cards that cost more than GCN games

Now on the other hand....download MP3's from your comp and listen to em whilst playing Animal Crossing 2 or the Sims or Burnout or something....

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Kart Screens !! Exclusive !!! 100% Genuine !
« on: April 23, 2003, 03:35:48 PM »
All right. I have come to shed the light! Begone, light! *I said get lost....d'oh! why you little...*

Okay, first of all, here is what we know as of Wednesday, April 23, 2003. You can play up to 8 players using 2 GCN's, 2 TV's, and 2 copies of the game. It is unknown as to whether you can use more than 2 GCN's/TV's.

Here is the list of character's known so far:
Mario
Luigi
Baby Mario
Baby Luigi
Bowser
Bowser, Jr.
Donkey Kong
Diddy Kong
Princess Peach
Koopa Troopa
Koopa Paratroopa
Wario
Waluigi
Yoshi
Birdo
Princess Daisy
=16 so far known. Obviously some are missing....like Toad...but we shall see.

Next, it is unknown as to wether or not you can choose your vehicle, but you will be able to pair up any two characters. Each character has his own driving attributes as well as 8 items/powerups exclusive to him/her. There are also 6 general items anyone can use. You can switch your driver and shooter at any point during a race. This will obviously offer a lot of tactics to play into the game, since you may have switched to take advantage of a weapon, but then again your driver changed and thus your kart attributes also changed. It appears you have more control over the weapons and also that your shooter character can "jump" from your kart to another. This is shown in a screen where it shows Daisy jumping from Luigi's kart (well actually the princess kart, Luigi is driving) onto the Kong Kart, with both Donkey Kong and Diddy already onboard.

As for the graphics...yes they aren't jaw-dropping, but I garauntee you the animation is incredible (in one screen, Donkey kong pulls a sharp turn and Diddy out back is almost thrown off as he barely hangs on...), and I wouldn't be surprised if it ran in 60 fps in 4 player split screen as well.

Now give us LAN F-Zero!!! 29 human opponents hahahahahah

EDIT: Oh, and I don't think Nintendo is lying when it says each character will have 8 EXCLUSIVE weapons. I doubt there are clones. And this game has been in development more than SSBM, which was slightly rushed in terms of clone characters...Let's see, 6 normal weapons, plus 16 known characters with 8 weapons each....that's a lot of weapons. Unless Nintendo is lying and each character has their own weapon SET but not entirely new weapons...we shall see at E3.

Nintendo Gaming / GBA SD Digicard Adaptor
« on: April 23, 2003, 03:14:19 PM »
So, does anyone think that it will ever be released? It was announced back when the GCN was unveiled. I really want one....just think of the possibilities.

Sure, they aren't cheap, but SD cards aren't that expensive any more either. And a 128 mb card can hold any Nintendo cartridge game ever created. Just think about it. If Master Quest were released on one (yeah I know, it's not cheap), it could keep it's rewritable features from the N64DD. Now, I'm not sure how fast the GCN memory card slots can read data, but it shouldn't be too bad...especially since a lot of Ocarina of Time can practically be dumped into the GCN's RAM.
Nintendo could sell old SNES or N64 games on these cards. Again, not likely, but come one. For example....a new Super Mario All Stars? All the NES and SNES mario bros. games, plus Super Mario Kart could fit onto an SD card. Heck, you could even throw in Mario Kart 64 or Mario 64 if there is enough room left. I doubt either of those games are over 16 mb...if 8 mb.
Or you could give away classic games with preorders like Nintendo did with Master Quest. Get F-Zero X and expansion with preorder of F-Zero GC.
And think about what could be done with GBA Connectivity or GB Player. Or, you could actually put new NES or (hopefully) SNES games from the next Animal Crossing onto your memory card and play them from any gamecube you want.
And of course....with even just a 32 mb SD card, you'd have more than enough space for saves than you probably would ever need.
And what about downloading MP3s onto a card and then listening to the tunes via enabled games like Xbox games
Heck, Nintendo could even set up vending maching type booths or something (like the Pokemon Snap ones) where you pay a little money and download classic NES or SNES or N64 games onto your own SD-card...

EDIT: Oh crap I screwed up....GBA digicard?? I meant GCN. For some reason I posted this here and put GBA in the title....Can someone please move this?

« on: April 23, 2003, 01:39:45 PM »
There is also a picture of Daisy jumping onto DK's kart...with DK and Diddy already inside! o_O huh....

I don't like the karts...except bowser's...but who cares. Looks fun as heck. I'd still prefer Super Mario 64/World looks over Sunshine crap...

Also, water racing would be cool too. Like the hovercraft in Diddy Kong Racing. Same as ground, but with different physics of course....and water weapons!

of course the did...
the only reason you could move your player around was to impress you with the detail in the ships and hangars....with the old select method it had a fixed camera view.

Wouldn't it be cool to engage in mechwars with AT-ST's in your own stolen one?...and now you can, judging from the screens...although I don't like the cockpit of the AT-ST too much...

Nintendo Gaming / Will the big N merge (OR BUY)?
« on: April 21, 2003, 02:30:27 PM »
You don't seem to realize how absolutely huge Nintendo is. First of all, Nintendo has $US 8 billion in the bank (last time I checked at IGN), and that's just savings in case something goes wrong. And 8 billion is enough to cover A LOT of mistakes. Second, Nintendo has zero debt, and has never recorded a loss in a fiscal year for as long as anyone alive can actually remember. They make between $500 million to $1 billion net profit every fiscal year, and actual sales in the billions (US Dollars). Nintendo has more money than Sega, Capcom, Konami, or even Electronic Arts can even dream about. Nintendo makes more money than any other games publisher (including Sony Computer Entertainment and Microsoft Game Studios; Electronic Arts is actually #2), and Nintendo doesn't record enormous losses per console sold like Microsoft, and to a lesser extent, Sony Corporation. Also Nintendo has repeatedly said that buying out smaller companies is not part of its business philosophy. As for a merger, you've got to be kidding me. Companies that are in financial trouble merge, and Nintendo happens to be one of the most well-to-do companies in the world. True, it may not make gross sales of hundreds of trillions of dollars a year like Wal-Mart, but Nintendo is far more stable. Look what the economy has done to K-Mart, JC Penny, and others. Pretty much every industry is taking a hit during this low point in the economic cycle, except the games industry, which is actually growing, of all things. The worldwide (not US) gaming industry is worth $US 20.7 billion dollars, over double that of Hollywood, and nearly as much as the $30 or so billion music industry. In last weeks forecast, analysts have predicted than the worldwide gaming industry should easily reach $US 30 billion by 2007, only 4 short years away. Nintendo isn't going to do anything any time soon. And it's 95%+ share in the worldwide handheld games market is only icing on the cake.

Nintendo Gaming / GCN Demo Disc Revealed!

I think demo discs should be packaged with Nintendo Power. Loads of people would suscribe just for the discs...People happy, Nintendo Power bigwigs happy, Nintendo over in Japan reaping in the money happy, everyone would be happy...

NWR Feedback / Update the Companies!!
« on: April 21, 2003, 11:45:58 AM »
I know this may be a daunting task, looking at the huge list of companies, but still, someone needs to update them. There shouldn't be any outdated information on this site unless it's in the news archives. I mean, your Silicon Knights profile says that Eternal Darkness "might" come out on Gamecube, according to rumors....That's like, from before the GCN launch....

Unfortunately, IGN commited the same crime. Don't make a section of the site and forget about it! If it's there on the main menu, people will be going there....

10 FPS? Oh...you mean like when you hit Ganondorf with a Light Arrow in the N64 version of OoT.....Slooooow Moooo....Man the framerate would die...but the special effect from the light arrows hitting ganondorf (but not ganon...) are better than a lot of the lighting and particle effects seen in todays games...
Lets see....GBA SP - 100 bucks...This gizmo - 60 or so bucks....A little more and you can get a portable DVD player..

TalkBack / Nintendo Announces Game Development in Tokyo
« on: April 18, 2003, 09:35:32 PM »
I don't particularly see the need...Nintendo doesn't release as many games per year than, say, Electronic Arts (even though Nintendo gets more profit than any other game company), and they already have 6 studios to make whatever games they are designing. Isn't Retro Studios, Intelligent Systems, HAL Labs, EAD, Silicon Knights, and NST enough? Not to mention third party partners like Sega and Namco as well as several companies pretty much devoted to Nintendo such as Factor 5, Sonic Team, Camelot, NDCube, and Zoonami.

And EAD alone is the largest development house in the world with about 1000 employees and some very expensive and advanced equipment...not to mention veteren geniuses like Miyamoto...

So it's not as if there is a lack of people to make games.

Of course, there are plenty of other possiblities to consider. Could this be sort of Japan's NST, where Nintendo could gather upstart designers and show them the way...or possibly they are splitting EAD and moving some of its people here?...None of the other first parties are big enough to split. HAL and Silicon Knights both emply 70 to 80 people, but I'm not sure about IntSys, NST, or Retro...

TalkBack / Must See Miyamoto TV
« on: April 16, 2003, 06:23:39 PM »
I just saw it. Great stuff. I like the part about Zelda being the greatest game series of all time

I sure hope there's a continuation of this...

Oh, and Kondo didn't compose the Super Mario theme. Miyamoto did, with an electric keyboard. He plays guitar and loves music. Kondo came in a little bit later and composed all the rest, but Miyamoto is responsible for Mario tune..

Well done, "Leopard Productions" Never heard of em...

So, as we already knew, the games industry is already bigger than the movie industry...just two more to go before it becomes the biggest and baddest of all entertainment industries: Music and Home Video. How many years till #1?...(games industry is like 10 or 11 billion, home video is around 15 billion I believe, and music is like 30 billion dollars...movies are like 7 or 8 billion by the way, not sure about TV..).
