That may be the case, but at times I think what Nintendo is trying to accomplish has less to do with games and more to do with annoying things like two warning screens about seizures when you load them and way overprotective crap like the friend codes.

Nintendo Gaming / Who's got mad programming skillz?
« on: March 24, 2006, 06:37:33 PM »
Here's what we need.  An Instant Messaging program something akin to ICQ for the PC for us WiFi gamers.

The program lets you (optionally) enter your Name/Nickname, e-mail, age, gender, location, etc., etc.  Also, it lets you select which DS WiFi games you own (along with entering the Friend Code for that game).

Then you can use this program to IM people to set up matches or "Smack Talk" with them during the match.

But the best part would be that it would let you search for other players based on whatever criteria you want.  Say, you want to look for MKDS players in the 18-25 range in the US - It'd let you do a search for that criteria, get a list of people who match that criteria that's currently online, send them a message and set up a game (and, of course, you'd have the option to add/block people to/from your list).

Well, I put forth the idea, who's going to come up with the product?

I think I need to go change my underwear.

I never had a TG-16.  Never knew anyone who did.  But man, I *loved* playing the demo kiosk at Childern's Palace.  I don't know if it was because the games were loads of fun or if it was just because they were games that I didn't normally have access to, but I know I spent a large chunk of time there playing them.

Yippie.

Sweet!

Now if someone would just make a Carnival Kings: Big Top Shooter that I can play at home, we'll be all set.

Bribing DJs, now that is illegal but the courts didn't see a reason to fine them for more than one million dollars when convicting them for a repeat offense.

Now see, I've never understood why it's perfectly legal for a company to pay a radio station to play a 30 second jingle to try to sell a product, but it's 100% illegal for a company to pay a radio station to play a 3 min jingle to try and sell a product...

Does this Tetris really count as a port?  I haven't played it yet (stupid shipping) but considering it has new modes, new goals, new controls, etc...  It seems to me that calling Tetris DS a port would be about the same as calling Halo 3, "New" Super Mario Bros. or Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories a port...

Exactly - The Older games will attract the Older Gamers to the exhibit - and while they're there, it will give Nintendo a chance to try to sell the new controller to them.

Prepare for the future...

...by returning to your past.

And thus my idea for the Revolution's marketing campaign begins.

Think about Mall tours (and places like Wal*Mart, etc) where Nintendo not only shows off the new Revolution but also holds tournaments on classic NES, SNES and Nintendo 64 games - like Mario Kart, Tetris, etc.  The trick is, Nintendo must provide classic controllers for these matches.

This would be a great way to get the older crowd back into the gaming market.  I say this because today I brought my SNES to work to play some people against Super Mario Kart (and I sucked, badly...) and there was an older lady in the break room who said "You should have brought Tetris!  I would have played then!" to which another older lady replied with "Yeah, I love Tetris, I'd beat you at that." which ended up with three of the ladys talking about different games they used to play on their kids' NESs....

It was fun.

The Mailbag, it lives!

First, I want to say that Jonny is probably the reason that my Game and Watch-e cards never came out - if only one more e-Reader had sold, perhaps Nintendo would have released them.. but NO!  Jonny doesn't buy one so we're all doomed to never get the Game and Watch e-Reader cards.

Seriously though, the e-Reader works just fine without the port being attached to anything.  In GameBoy Advance SP models, the e-Reader's link port doesn't go into the GBA SP's link port and the e-Reader works just fine - although when linking the unit with the e-Reader with another system, you have to use the SP's link port.

Hey Jonny, send me a free DS Lite and I'll let everyone know if the e-Reader will fit/work in it.

Man, let me tell you all, I totally just kicked Shecky's back end at Balloon Battle Mode.  He's such a wussy.  I bet he cried.

Seriously, we did get this working - although it was *VERY* slow.  We're going to give X Link a shot here sometime.  If anyone else ever wants to try, let us know and we can try getting together and see what we can get done.
