General Chat / Re: Game Over: One final rant...

To append to Neal's comment - I think the fact that we (as a forum) don't agree on everything says we're doing something right.  I'd rather be a part of a small but active forum where folks have an exchange of ideas than be a part of a forum where everyone agrees on everything so there's no actual discussion - instead, someone posts a link or a thought, there's ten or so "Yeah!" replies and that's it.

The funny thing is, one alternate forum where a few folks went to has three threads that are the most active threads on the forum.  One focused on the industry in general - it's 50+ pages long and generally focuses on negative things with the occasional positives thrown in.  There's another 50+ page thread about the "pathetic" gaming media, where various sites get slammed for various reasons (sometimes deserved, sometimes... meh.).  Then, there's a thread that's a whopping 20+ pages that is supposed to point out good articles, but generally ends up getting compared to the bad articles, with more negative talk about the bad ones.

Can things get negative around here?  Sure.  But don't leave in a tizzy because it's too negative, then go to another forum that's virtually more negative than this.  If you're going to make a big, dramatic exit, then going someplace where the things you complained about here are even worse... well, it takes away all the sting of your leaving.

I don't like it when anyone* makes a decision to leave the forums - I think we have a great community, even when someone posts something I don't agree with.  But, if you are unhappy here, then you should find an on-line community where you are happy - and I sincerely hope that anyone who has left our forums for any reason has found a community where they are happy.

*with one exception

On a side note, my copy of T3 arrived today.  Funny, it still has a Big Lots price tag on it for $4.99.  :D

Mayhaps, sometime, I'll throw it in my laptop and take some comparison stills-shots so the internet has more than just the one shot to go by. ;)

Do you wear pants, or are the pants wearing you?

Meh.  The thing about Terminator is that it isn't about the future war - it's always about preventing it.

Sure, you can mix up the formula and *make* it about the future war, but what made the first and second movies succeed was the triumph of the human spirit over technology gone mad.  Taking out the unstoppable killing machine with pure gumption.  You lose all that in Salvation.  There's all this crazy future technology and humans flying around in jets and hanging out in nuclear subs.

Also, the scenes of poverty and wartime desolation in 1 & 2 just seem totally mis-matched with the world we were shown in Salvation.  That was off-putting.

I have long stated that we should just simplify the English language so that "your" and "you're" no longer exist.  Instead, we should simply write/type "ur" and save everyone the trouble.

You know, it's a shame this guy had to be such a dick about just issuing me a refund.  I'd actually love to have an empty one of the boxes from the box sets to store the individual printings of the guides in - and if he's just buying box sets to strip them down, he could probably have sold me one of the boxes... but, because he's such a douchenozzle, there's no way I'm doing business with him now.

ET destroyed the US video game industry and jump-started the Japanese one.

1 & 2 are awesome.

3 was a good action movie, with lots of explosions and crazy fight scenes, but took out the whole "caring about the characters" thing that made 1 & 2 so good.

4 was... interesting.  As a movie, I enjoy watching it more than 3.  As a Terminator movie... I just don't know.

I don't even know who I'm talking to anymore.

Back to an actual gaming item...

Gr.

So, I have the second and third printings of Prima's Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess guide in hardcover.  I wanted the first edition, and after looking around, I found all kinds of contradicting and confusing information on it.  Thus, I contacted Prima directly for whatever information they could give me regarding the first printing to help me locate a copy.  Their e-mail included the ISBN and additional information for identifying a first edition.

Looking around, I decided to buy a copy from a seller on Alibris.

http://www.alibris.com/The-Legend-of-Zelda-Twilight-Princess-Stephen-Stratton/book/9968240?matches=11

The first seller, which still has the item listed, had a good price, so I placed an order, from this page, clicking the "Add to Cart" button.

On the 3rd, I received an email that the item had shipped.

Two days ago, still having not received the item, I contacted the seller to find out where the item was.

The seller explained that the copy he had was damaged, so he had to re-order it, but for the inconvenience, he was going to upgrade the shipping and throw in a "golden" bookmark.

Red Flag.  The "Golden" bookmark, I presume, is the one that comes with the big box set.  That I already own.  So, I asked to verify that he was shipping the 2006 edition.

He's not.  He's shipping the 2013 edition (i.e.: a copy stripped from the box set).  And, apparently, if you click to the left of the "Add to Cart" button, it will expand with information from the seller - and even though the ISBN is listed for the 2006 edition, his individual description states that it's the 2013 edition (oddly, it also states that it is factory sealed, and the individual copies inside of the box set are not sealed).  He's refusing a refund, even though he doesn't even have an item to ship me.

Good times.

That assumes I actually read the post, all I read was the title and skimmed the replies. But then we are on the same page in owning both versions.

Okay.  I will stop assuming you've actually read the posts you reply too.  Should save us both some time. :D

Its just odd to pick the FS as the main one to me I guess.

See, you're confused again.  It's not my "main" one.  I already own Widescreen on DVD and again on Blu in the Terminator Anthology.  Which I already mentioned in this thread you've replied to.

But yeah boobs were all that thread you linked to discussed.

That still says plenty, many scenes are like this, opened up so much I just felt a lot of it needed to be seen. This maybe is not the best example, as all you see is more of her and some street, but other scenes like the big action scenes you see much more and it just helps the film.

You must have been distracted by the boob picture - this was directly beneath it.

Anyway, I paid $3/shipped for an unopened copy of the Full Screen DVD.  I'm okay with my purchase.

I can assure you, boob shots (in which you can't see anything due to convenient hair placement) mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.  I've read several threads (unfortunately, most images seem to have gone the way of the dodo) and there seems to be a consensus that the action sequences (which, really, T3 is one long action sequence anyway) are better when they're not zoomed in.

Terminator 3 Full Screen DVD

Full Screen? FULL SCREEN?! You know nothing about proper movie watching..... :(

Actually, I'd argue that your statement should be...

Quote
Terminator 3? TERMINATOR 3?! You know nothing about proper movie watching..... :(

But, aside from that, apparently, basically, T3 was filmed in full-frame, then matted to widescreen.

This thread goes into more detail on it, including a picture that I don't want to repost here, that does a pretty good job of showing the difference.

1324
No, you can just use it in any combination of the games you want.

1325
I think you're thinking of when she operates equipment at the end of T2.  That's a dangling control.
