Nintendo Gaming / My e-mail to the localization team of Zoo Keeper DS.
« on: August 14, 2006, 07:09:51 PM »
Here's an e-mail I sent to Ignition, the company who brought the game Zoo Keeper DS stateside.

Quote

Hello Paul and Ken!

I purchased your game Zoo Keeper some time ago.  According to something I read on the internet, a player can get a large bonus for lining up three rotating special blocks during gameplay.  I've tried and tried and tried to do this, yet find myself failing time and time again.

So, before I put too much more effort into trying to do this, I figured I'd write and ask if this really happens.  I mean, I'd be upset to the point of smashing my DS into my skull if I spent too much more time on this only to find out that nothing happens.  That would be bad, mostly because I really like my DS and my wife won't let me buy a DS Lite as it is, I could just see me trying to talk her into letting me get one knowing that I destroyed my last DS by repeatly banging it against my head.  Plus, I have to say that I'm not too fond of hitting my own head.

Anywhoo, any help with this would be appericated.  Thanks.

Think I'll get a reply (that's not in the form of a restraining order?)

Anywhoo, if you haven't bought Zoo Keeper DS, it's worth it.  You can find it about anywhere for under $20 (KMart clearanced it out at $1.50 awhile ago) and it's a fun little game to kill a few mins here and there on.  And, hey, it's one of only two non-Nintendo published titles I own, so if I'm reccomending it, that's gotta say something, right?

There is a completly stupid discussion going on over on Wikipedia about some unauthorized Zelda fan movie and how it should go on the Zelda Series template because "it's part of the series".  So I made a super neat picture of Link that I want to add to the template as well...  Whadda think?  Should I apply for an art position at Nintendo?

General Chat / Nintendo Power Subscription - CHEAP
« on: August 06, 2006, 07:45:15 AM »
(Please read this entire thread before ordering)

Okay, so everyone knows that Nintendo Power is very Nintendo-Biased.

So who the hell cares?  I'm convinced that the world would be a much better place if everyone was more Nintendo-Biased!

Seriously, this is a good deal for Nintendo Power.  1 year subscription for $4.69!  Just go here!.

On the down side, the e-mail address you set up for this will get some SPAM - so use your junk e-mail address for it.

But, to make the deal sweeter, use this coupon code when checking out - AMAZBARDEC and you'll get a whopping Seventy Cents off the price - so a one year subscription is only $3.99!  (Coupon Code still works as of October 10th).

Now, if you're daring like I am, I purchased five of these.  I said the first one was a new subscription and the second-fifth ones were renewals - I have high hopes that they'll stack - giving me a five year subscription to Nintendo Power.  The best part is that the above coupon code gave seventy cents off of each subscription!  5 years for $20!

Isn't that a good deal?

(Thanks to the gang over at CheapAssGamer for this deal!)

NWR Forums Discord / Rent my Avatar Space?
« on: August 02, 2006, 06:33:45 PM »
Although everyone loves my Avatar, I'm thinking I'd like to try something fun...

Assuming a mod doesn't veto this idea, I'm thinking I'll rent out my avatar space at a rate of fifty cents for 24 hours (discount rate of $3 for 7 days).

Regular forum rules would apply, of course, but outside of that, interested users could submit to me whatever avatar they want (insulting me even!).

Whatta say?  Who's up for the idea?

If I can raise $66.65* then the money will go to purchase me One share of Nintendo Co., LTD Stock

*The price will vary depending on the stock price at the time of purchase.

General Chat / Holy crap, Nintendo's Customer Service Rocks (again)
« on: July 28, 2006, 05:17:14 PM »
In the tradition of other various threads about Nintendo's awesome Customer Service, I present to you this:

Nintendo is swapping me a Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter purchased from KMart (I purchased it two days ago, it's never been opened, but the operator didn't ask what kind of condition it was in) for a Game Boy micro wireless adapter.  I just have to pay for the postage to mail mine in.  I called to ask although I figured there was no way in heck they'd do it - and they did!  Nintendo Rocks.

General Chat / I spent too much money today...
« on: July 28, 2006, 03:17:35 PM »
Today, I spent..

$78 to renew my tags for my car.
$24.70 in Gas.
$327.13 for my car payment (with some nasty late charges because of a check that didn't arrive in the mail on time).
$3.16 for a new GCN Extention Cable ($.99) and a new DS Case ($1.99) at Pamida.
$2.85 for a used copy of the original Game Boy game Kwiks at EBGames.
$31.75 for a new GCN Mobile Monitor from Toys R Us.
$13.40 at White Castle for 40 Hidden Valley Chicken Rings and a 44 oz Sweet tea.
$13.21 for new copies of Drill Dozer ($7.48) and ($4.98) Viewtiful Joe at Target.
$6.67 for the Master's Edition of the card game Phase 10 at Target (as a gift for my wife).
$13.77 for a used SNES Game Genie packaged with box, code book and one update book at Joe's Records.
Which brings me to a grand total of... $514.64

In a couple of months, when I'm complaining that I don't have the money for a Wii, you'll know why.

General Gaming / Is Microsoft worried, or going in for the kill?
« on: July 27, 2006, 05:17:47 PM »
From CheapAssGamer

Less than 1 Year on the market, and the word on the street is that the XBox 360 is going to be getting a price drop on Aug 1st.  Sorta.

Quote

Starting August 1st, the Xbox 360 bundle that includes:

   * Xbox 360 premium
   * 4 months free of Live
   * 1250 Live points
   * PGR3

will be retailing for $399.

According to a breakdown later in the thread, it comes out to be about a $50 value (PGR3 is the only first party title not to drop to $30 and the speculation is that MS is keeping it at $50 to make the bundle look like a better deal.  1200 Live points are $12 and a 3-month Live card is about $12 and you get a free month with the purchase of the system).

So...  speculate.  Pretty early for a price drop... Is MS running scared or do they smell the blood in the water?

Nintendo Gaming / Help me find this and I'll name you king!
« on: July 25, 2006, 12:52:05 PM »
Well, I can't promise that me naming you king will get you anywhere, but...

As many of you may know, I collect various Nintendo-related crap.  There's something I've wanted for a long, long time that, I would think, should be fairly easy to come by... yet I've never seen it since.

When I was little, I remember seeing (for sale, of course) at a Toys R Us, a special display case that was designed for original Game Boy Games (although, I assume Game Boy Color Games would fit in it as well, but this was well before the GBC came out).  What makes this so difficult is that I don't have the slightest idea what company made this case, how many games it was designed to hold or anything.  All I remember (and the reason I want it) is because it was designed to hang on the wall.

Anyone else recall any such thing?

Nintendo Gaming / DS games that detect GBA games...
« on: July 20, 2006, 08:54:38 AM »
Remember that cool feature?  Where the DS game was supposed to detect a particular GBA game or two and unlock stuff or whatnot?

What games actually use this?  I think Sprung and some Spiderman game did... anything else?

Sorry Stabby... I just really didn't want to die first again.

I, however, had expected to die first when I left for work this afternoon, so I thought really hard to come up with a name for the dead thread.  I had this one, so I'm dedicating it to you.  Your sacrifice is noble.

If you want to come up with a different name for this thread, let me know and I'll rename it.

Nintendo Gaming / DS Lite getting some love from my friends.
« on: July 06, 2006, 08:20:00 AM »
Since the DS Lite was released, a number of my friends have purchased one.

One guy, who's only other handheld was a GameBoy Color that was given to him used that he never played, had been tossing around the idea of getting a DS for awhile.  When we got the DS Lites instock, he couldn't resist.

Another guy, who's never really had a handheld, was flopping between a DS Lite and a PSP.  It wasn't too hard to talk him into the DS Lite.

Yet another guy, who's only other handheld was an original brick GameBoy years ago, had wanted a DS for some time and me and the first guy was able to talk him into it when the DS Lite came out.

And, finally, another guy, who's a big PC gamer and not too much else, was talked into one when he saw how much fun the four of us were having with our DSes (?).

Now, between the five of us, one cousin of the first guy on the list and a co-worker's husband, we're a mere three people short from getting together a round of ten-player Tetris.  Damn, I want to try that so badly.

Anywhoo, we enjoy tons of Tetris, along with a bit of Mario Kart, Big Brain, Metroid Pinball and a bit of NSMB mini-game and Star Chaser madness.  Tetris and the Star Chaser in NSMB are probably my favorites.  I just wish the Star Chaser thing supported more than two players at once - that would be tons of fun.

I have a squid.
His name is Inky.
He's very squishy.
He's very stinky.

Squids require baths on a regular basis.

I took him for a walk.
We went to the mall.
Sometime around noon.
He got stuck in the bathroom stall.

Squids need the larger handicap stalls.

We went out for Pizza
At the local `Hut
Inky got upset
And punched me in the gut.

Squids don't much care for pizza.

Back at home by nine.
It was time for bed.
I was fast asleep,
But Inky... he was dead.

Squids don't make good long-term pets.

General Chat / Gah... life sucks.
« on: June 09, 2006, 08:07:09 PM »
Bah.

As some of you know, I work at Wal*Mart.  While it's not the best place in the world to work, it doesn't completly suck, the pay is decent and the people can be great.

Well, there are changes coming company-wide with Wal*Mart.  Really, I see it as Wal*Mart looking very short-term - which, means to me that I don't see Wal*Mart being in my long-term plans.  I probably haven't mentioned this much here, but I worked hourly at Wal*Mart, went into management there for a short while, quit to work for my in-laws -bad-, then went back to Wal*Mart as an hourly with some intention to go back into management sometime down the line.  However, with the changes coming I just don't think that's in the cards.

Well, I live in Southern Illinois in a pretty desolated area - job wise.  To top that off, while I like to think I'm an fairly skilled person, fairly well-rounded person,  a 2-year college degree is all I've got.  But even if I did have much higher than that, there's not much to go for in this area.  Unfortunatly, my wife works for my in-laws (her parents, duh) with their fairly-new restaurant which she pretty much talked them into opening.  Now, this restaurant isn't failing by any means, but it certainly isn't high-sailing either.  There's no chance in heck that she can leave - the place would fall apart.  Which, of course, means I'm stuck here - as leaving her isn't an option for me.

Now, of course, my dream job would be to work for Nintendo, idealy at the Nintendo World Store as a salesfloor associate or, better yet, as a retail representative - with my years of working at Wal*Mart, I would totally kick ass and take at that job.  Alas, moving to NYC isn't an option (and the commute would be killer!) and, even though I check about weekly, it's either there is no retail representative position anywhere near my area (which goes in line with what I've seen at local stores) or the person who has that position will have it until they die (or, again, going by what I see at the local stores, perhaps they already have and no one has noticed...)

So I'm stuck.  Basically, in this area, it's teaching (which is what I originally went to college for until I spent a summer working with kids and almost went insane), coal mine (heh... I could never cut it) or minimum-wage burger flipping (been there, done that)...  Going back to work for the in-laws is not an option (that was a lot of stress for both me and my wife and I never want to put her -or me- through that ever again).  And, unfortunatly, my other dream-job of opening an arcade would never work out in this area.  Although I would totally have four Mario Kart GP machines in it.  Five, if you count my personal machine I'd have in the back room.

Anywhoo... no real point to this post.  Just needed to cry and moan a little bit.  I've talked with my wife about some of the changes at Wal*Mart, but really, I don't want her to worry about it until it gets to the point that I know 100% that's not where I want to be.  Basically, I just needed to get this off my chest and I know things that not a lot of others at my store aren't supposed to know yet, so I can't really talk with them about it... And now that I'm a married old man, I have no real friends, outside of work... so you guys get to hear it all.  Aren't you thrilled?
