I've got three of them, but one of the ones I don't have is the one I really want...the Mario Power Tennis Hammer!

Perhaps it's a question for another topic, but either way isn't the point kind of "moot" or whatever?

If it's region-free, hooray.  I'm assuming you guys expect to import some games.

If it's region-locked, I'm sure that with the Wii being as popular as it is (or rather, as popular as it sounds like it likely will be) that soon enough someone will find a way to bypass such protection via mod chips or otherwise.  If you don't mind voiding your warranty or whatever, that is.

The last time I played import games was in the last days of the Super NES.  That was an easy fix - just taking the pliers and snapping off the tabs in the cartridge slot.  If only they were still that easy.

Funny, I JUST read a thing on GoNintendo that said it was region-encoded again.  >_<

After seeing the price of the Wii controllers, they'll probably jack up the price to close to it and try to justify it just because of the motion control.

"Sure, it's the same as other PlayStation controllers.  But that's the industry standard, and now it's equipped with our innovative motion sensing technology".

Suuuure...

Because the control scheme of the Wii is very different, meaning very different games, it's much less fair to compare the Xbox 360 and the Wii (than, say, to compare the Xbox 360 and the PS3).  You know, like that metaphor about apples and oranges.

You can say, look, the prices of the consoles are these, and the prices of the controllers are these, and the prices of similar accessories are these - but when it comes down to it, it's the games, and it's impossible to put a real value on the fun of a game.  (You can compare prices of games, but that is far from a measure of how fun the game is.)

(I mean, geez, some people think the PS3 is worth a thousand bucks alone just to play Final Fantasy XIII.  Well, good for them.)

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How to show Wii to Nintendo-haters on Day One?
« on: September 18, 2006, 04:42:18 AM »
I'll have to look at the pictures of the back of the Wii again, but do you suppose the GameCube's component output cables will work with the Wii as well?  They should have the same way of outputting video, I would think the only real obstacle is whether or not it'll physically fit, if the GameCube's component output cables were specially designed and they didn't consider that when designing the Wii.

Or maybe they did consider that...Nintendo would probably make more money selling another cable.  >_<

Nintendo Gaming / How to show Wii to Nintendo-haters on Day One?
« on: September 17, 2006, 10:06:59 AM »
On Day One, I'll need:
-component output cable (so the games don't look less vivid or less sharp than my GameCube's)
-multiple controllers
-good multiplayer games

Now, what I want to know is, when will the component output cable be available, and what multiplayer games sound good?  (I don't like sports games so Madden isn't even a choice on my radar.)  With WarioWare: Smooth moves not coming out for launch, what am I supposed to do, other than have people watch me play Zelda or make Miis out of them?  >_<

I know there's Wii Sports, but the Nintendo-haters may want something with nicer graphics too.  Then again WarioWare doesn't need ubergraphics and is tons of fun, so maybe Wii Sports will be enjoyable enough for them.  As I said, I usually don't like sports, so it'd still be nice if there was something else anyway for multiplayer action on the first day.

Well, they say they're improving the controls in Metroid Prime 3 even more, but I think the delay has more to do with The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

You're probably right in that delaying those games helps out UbiSoft, but I believe Nintendo looks out after itself first and foremost, and it's simply better for them to delay Metroid so that it and Zelda won't be fighting for gamers' hard-earned dollars.

Supposedly Metroid came out the same day as Kid Icarus way back when.  And Metroid Prime and Metroid: Fusion came out the same day.  But usually, I'd be surprised if Nintendo put out two major big franchise games in the same month.

ALttP disagrees with you, (except for the female part but it doesn't matter because as a japanese character he tends to be on the androginous side :P)
Regard to LttP: HA! Someone caught that! I was beginning to wonder.....
I'm confused.  Are you referring to when Link turns into a bunny when he goes to the Dark World before obtaining the Moon Pearl?  If so, you guys are way off.

Link's hair appears pinkish/purplish in A Link To The Past.  Plus, he appears dwarfish.  Go ahead and check.

See here, in the Animal Crossing textures.  That's a page on VGMaps.com that I've been meaning to change or remove altogether because it's mostly useless.  Not totally useless now, apparently.

No, YOUR MOM.  LOL.

When I first read that I thought you meant the final boss.  That would be funny.

Incidentally, my mom's name when anagrammed comes out to "Urban Legend".  No joke.  That would be neat if she was a boss.

These Miis are neat, I almost wonder if I'll end up wasting time just making a whole bunch just because I can.  The fact that they can be used in games makes it even more awesome.

Too bad they don't have a few more details like clothes, though.  If I try to remake Ada Wong - without a dress! - she might just look like any other Asian woman (without a dress).

Since we've been bombarded with lots of major Wii news this week (unlike, you know, most weeks), what's the situation on what remains of any interest in the PS3?  Any new catastrophes for Sony lately?

Nintendo Gaming / A year ago today, we first saw the WiiPointer.
« on: September 15, 2006, 07:58:54 AM »
On Sept. 15, 2005, Nintendo unveiled the Wii controller.  Well, back then, we still knew of the console as the Revolution.  And a lot of us were like "WTF"?

Some people didn't get the "Revmote".  And now we see it as the major selling point of the Wii.  Now many of us can't wait to play the Wii, mostly because of the controller.

So, remembering back, did any of us here actually HATE the controller?

Someone should 'fess up to eating their words!  I'm sure if people still hated it they wouldn't be on this forum!

And, one year from today, who knows what we'll be playing?  Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption may be old news by this time next year, but likely we'll still be "Smashing" it up online in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and thoroughly enjoying games we haven't even heard of yet.  So much can happen in 365 days.

(Putting that into perspective, it's only 65 days 'til we Wii!)

A few weeks ago, I saw that Toys R Us was advertising in-store that they were taking pre-orders.  Now that we know the actual price and what's included, I would guess they might revise the details - though I didn't ask for more details back then, but I think it was $50 down to hold one.

As do I, but I believe the official site says the Wii comes with an all-in-one cable that includes component output.  At least I seem to recall it did.  If so, thank goodness.  I wouldn't want my Wii games to look worse than my GameCube games, even on day one.

EDIT: Found it.
Here it says, if you scroll down to input/oputput, it says "Output: an AV Multi-output port for component, composite or S-video".  At least it confirms it can handle it, but I guess it must've been elsewhere that I read said cable was included.

That's an interesting chart, 18 Days.  Where'd you get that?  I hope it gets updated with the Wii ('cause I'm too lazy to figure it out).  Well, I'm guessing that it would be pretty close to the Nintendo 64...

Would be nice if it was two 'chucks, but it wouldn't be by default, since it comes with the Wii and the Wii only comes with one controller.

EDIT: Darn it!  I meant two WiiPointers!

Maybe Animal Crossing for the Wii will have local weather affecting your village?  (Though I guess that means more gyroids and more rare fish for people who live in rainy climates...)

I dunno, the weather could affect certain games somehow, whether for major or minor gameplay purposes.

Well, SB, now you know that the Wii release date is Nov. 19, 2006...as if we didn't know that already...  >_>

So the question is:

Wii or WoW?

14% in most places?  (I'm assuming that is 6% GST plus 8% PST...)  Man, I'm glad I live in Alberta, where there is no PST.  So it's only 6% in total tax.

I think there are two other Canadians here that also live in Alberta.  IceCold and...I think couchmonkey, maybe?  I forget.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Rumored list of Virtual Console games at launch
« on: September 14, 2006, 04:42:00 AM »
And Bill thought 50 was unreasonable...sounds like there's going to be 60 at launch with about 10 each month.

Who called the monthly thing?  I think I did.  Oh!

...Oh, wait, maybe that was in another topic.  >_<

Also, MSX games now.  So now we'll get alternate versions of CastleVania and Metal Gear...yay?  I didn't think the MSX had too much else.  Supposedly Dragon Quest.  Does it have anything that we haven't seen a version of on the NES?

EDIT: Oh, yeah, forgot the Dragon Slayer games.  Prequels to Legacy Of The Wizard, kinda (well, Legacy Of The Wizard was Dragon Slayer IV, I think).  Now that was a good game.
