We already know that SSBB isn't going to make it at launch (it's landing 2007 sometime), and we already know that Metroid 3 won't be online either. Pangya may not be online either. But what if CoD isn't online, or Red Steel, or Need For Speed Carbon! We know almost nothing about specific Wii games going online, all we have is speculation and vague promises. Maybe Nintendo hasn't even gotten everything worked out yet, maybe it'll be like the DS: online sometime later?

...

10. Third Party ports don't make good use of Wiimote functionality
Perhaps less ambitious third party releases like Call of Duty 3 and Need For Speed: Carbon that are intended for multi-system release won't have enough care put into their porting to make good use of the Wiimote and thus feel clunky, un-fun and inferior. Luckily, EA has avoided this possibility by devoting one entire studio just for Wii ports, so Madden is safe.

BEHOLD! Pessimism such as this yields results!

Carbon not online or motion-sensitive?

But... if that's your position, then nothing can be satisfying? OoT could've been better with another year of development, right? Or Mario 64?

Well, personally, although I respect Matt, I dislike him because in the past, he's consistently not "gotten" what Nintendo is and what Nintendo's tried to do. But lately he's sipped of the kool-aid and started to realize and acknowledge certain tenets of the Nintendo religion.

Ah, so your saying that the glory of the GC release of TP this fall is sullied irrevocably by its fraternal twin, the Wii version?

... that is a defensible position. *bow*

But...would a Super Bowl spot be worth it at 2.1 million dollars for 30 seconds, or can Nintendo achieve more by using $2.1 million distributed for more ad time, at more venues, and with greater variety?

Like I said before, do we throw money at the problem or is there a more fiscally-responsible way to do this?

Cruel is one syllable. Like "cool" with an r inserted.

Cruella is three syllables. Darn you Disney!

Is that "Syllabel" thing arising from something to do with "southern belles" or something as delightfully quaint as that?

Duke Nukem's time might have passed though, it is a game whose foundation is based even more upon satire and hyperbole as GTA3 or Conker's Bad Fur Day. These elements may still be of the sort that can be executed well, but I doubt that a project so long under development may have these qualities presented to us intact.

Oh for gosh sakes, Kotaku should just get a sense of humor and laugh along with everyone else! I wouldn't be laughing at Kotaku if only they weren't so defensive about the whole deal.

Huge Advertising Campaign = Throwing money at the problem!

I have no problem with advertising, except that I'd rather we be talking about what TYPE of advertising should be entertained, rather than HOW MUCH.

For example...

Oprah = GOOD!!!
Daily Show with Jon Stewart = ?

The kind who isn't afraid to point out when their favorite game developer isn't realizing its full potential.

however you don't miss a chance to criticize me when I do the same with TP

This whole thing is pretty silly, I dont understand why kotaku or ign are making it such a big deal.

NO. You're completely WRONG on this. You're criticizing Nintendo for EXACTLY realizing their full potential. If it were up to you they'd have released TP GC exclusive this spring MINUS the extra 6 months of work they're doing to make it 120%!

We jump on you because with TP Nintendo is PROLONGING THE DEV TIME and putting MORE WORK into the game, yet you complain!!!

General Gaming / RE: Uncanny Valley
« on: June 22, 2006, 12:09:59 PM »
Yeah, I don't think that uncanny valley is an argument against realistic graphics. Instead, it's an argument against poorly implementing realistic graphics without first trying to understand what makes real, "real." You can't just motion-capture everything, there's a je ne sais quois that needs to be captured, and THAT is what makes art, art.

But Link isn't necessarily part of a bloodline. Every young boy at a certain age is given a green tunic in WindWaker. It's about reincarnations and the eternal forces of good and evil, not about anything so manifest destiny as "blood lines."
