TalkBack / Re: Call of Duty Black Ops II Officially Confirmed for Wii U
« on: September 14, 2012, 12:21:57 AM »
By the way, i literally made a fist pump and said yes out loud when they said they are keeping IR pointing in.

Very happy with the Wiimote option!

Glad to hear about the Wii mote controls. I was willing to deal with dual analog in the end because there is a lot of new stuff being done with the game.

Yeah, the biggest lost promise of the Wii was the lack of wide spread demand/adulation for properly implemented IR controls for shooters. They ruined me for dual analog games on the 360, and I've never felt particularly comfortable using a keyboard and mouse to play games. The IR controls actually friggin' replicate the proposed experience, instead of being totally sloppy (dual analog) or way too twitchy (mouse and keyboard). I kind of doubt it will make it long into the Wii U's lifecycle, particularly as I don't see another Metroid Prime game materializing, but good on Treyarch nonetheless.

I am right there with you guys. One of my personal best I'M-HAPPY-NOW moments of the conference was when they said they were keeping Wii Remote pointer controls.

Thank god! I was really pulling for this game to come to the Wii U, especially when  I was so heartbroken to find out it wasn't coming to the Wii!

Is anyone here affected by the decision to not support other forms of Audio Out? I mean... I'm so not an audiophile, and practically the entire gaming industry was fooled by GH3's mono sound audio for MONTHS, but I've noticed some people out there complaining, wonder if anyone here share those concerns too?

Nope. The system's too expensive, I can't play VC games on the GamePad, nobody said two words about the online infrastructure, all they did was reiterate that Miiverse is a thing that exists, and there are only TWO confirmed launch day games? This is horrible. Expect my next Nerds & Men to be ALL ABOUT THIS.

I'm a big supporter of raising shields, but I can't agree with this. I'm happy. Well, that could be because I just placed my Wii U preorder but... there are things to enjoy in life, you know? Like an irresistible Premium SKU value proposition, 007 Legends, MH3U, Bayonetta2, and COD:BO2!

Including Nintendo Land immediately makes the Black SKU a good value proposition, but there's so much more than that there... Man, I was intending to get a white Wii U but now I'm getting a black one because of this.

You're certainly not downloading full Wii U games with that pitiful amount of storage.

You are. Just... two of them.

I also don't understand why this can't just be a membership you purchase, rather than something that just comes with the Premium model.  Still, we'll see soon enough.

Yeah. This whole Nintendo Network Premium thing is the biggest reason I have right now to buy the Premium bundle... I really was planning on a white Wii U though... GAH

So if I buy 100 games, I essentially could buy 1000 cheaper games with the points I earned? If I buy a game for $50 I get $5 to spend. So if I buy 100 games..$500 dollars worth I could essentially keep getting points in some crazy exponential fashion?

Hmmm maybe I should think of it as a "Buy 10 games get one free!" sort of deal... or maybe a "Buy $200 worth of games on the eShop and get something like Trine 2 for free!"

Gah... this whole eShop incentive deal is going to be rough on my intention to stick to physical media...

TalkBack / Club Nintendo Picross Added to Japanese Club Nintendo Rewards
« on: September 13, 2012, 04:42:39 AM »

The special edition puzzle game will feature giant 80x80 images that are solved in individual picross-sized chunks.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/31673

Nintendo has just added Club Nintendo Picross as a reward to the Japanese Club Nintendo customer loyalty program.

The game is a special edition of Nintendo's Picross franchise where players use clues to determine what spaces in a 10x10 or 15x15 grid to mark and what to leave empty, revealing a pattern or image when they're done. (These puzzles are also known as nonograms).

On top of that, the game will feature two large 80x80 grids that players complete bit-by-bit. Each "microsphere," as the 80x80 grids are called, is actually composed of many smaller solvable picross puzzles. When all the individual puzzles are solved, the entire 80x80 reveals an image of an iconic Nintendo character.

Nintendo also revealed that players needing a little help solving picross puzzles can rely on two hint features. Just in case players haven't spotted it yet, the "navigation feature" highlights cases where players have created 100% certainty that a grid space is either filled or empty. Another feature, "Hint Roulette," may be familiar to players of Mario Picross (available on the 3DS Virtual Console eShop) -- if players need a running start for a puzzle, they can have the answers in a random row and column revealed for them.

Japanese Nintendo Club members will need to redeem 80 Club Nintendo Points to get the reward, which is available as downloadable software for the 3DS. The single-player game has 3D graphics, a single save file, and a CERO A rating.

There's no news yet on whether this reward will show up in Club Nintendo catalogs outside of Japan.

I must not hype.
Hype is the mind-killer.
Hype is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my hype.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the hype has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Honestly, I've been waiting for a good moment to jump into the Art Academy series since I honestly... got none of the art genes in the family... I should probably pull the gun on this game so I can actually send some "decent" Colors 3D! images to all the people on my Swapnotes list...

Resident Evil 6 will be announced as a Wii U launch title.

That'd be awesome (even though word around the internet is that RE6 isn't looking that great after all?), but I've been hurt too many times before...

« on: September 12, 2012, 02:07:14 PM »
@Kiaron: I agree.  Mario just looks plain, well, plain compared to Rayman and Trine 2. I will buy those before buying Mario. NSMBU looks too much like NSMBW. It's just not that much of a game-changer, IMO. I only played a little bit of Trine 1 and Rayman Origins, so this is still going to be a fresher experience for me. Mario can wait.

Yeah, I think that Ubisoft's done a good job so far of "selling" Rayman Legends and creating real hype-able points to that game. The truth is that Mario U just keeps looking and sounding better and better, especially with the most recent stuff to come out of game informer and what is likely to be one of the most innovative miiverse integrations out there but, well... like you said: right now, "Mario can wait."

Sad to say, unless they come up with some surprise game, I will not be buying a single Nintendo game in the launch window.

Nintendo Land T-T

Most likely.  I would say no new games...however, they may have new modes to like Nintendo Land to play.  I do expect a video presentation of one or two new games not shown yet.  Just to help create hype.

I don't expect a lot of new game announcements/demos, but I AM (against my better judgement) expecting SOME... like for CoD:BO2 to finally get confirmed once and for all, gosh darn it!

Yeah, as always, it remains to be seen just how successful Nintendo's attempt is. (SO EXCITING!) For the Wii, I was really hoping that something like Kirby would all of a sudden explode in popularity as a successful Bridge game (silly me &P), but instead it was NSMBWii and Mario Kart Wii that can possibly be argued to be the best "bridging" examples since they are right up there in sales with Wii Play and Wii Sports Resort.

Sounds in line with my some of my personal speculation that was less hype-affected. Internal storage from those rumored specs seems low for my tastes, however.

I know not what these things mean, but man do I want an ethernet port. Are there usb converters for such things?

Yes. Or at least, there were for the Wii.

I actually believe Nintendo when they talk about Nintendo Land as their attempt at a "Wii Sports" for the Wii U. I think that Nintendo Land represents an effort by Nintendo to get newer and less active gamers introduced to more traditional and complex forms of play, especially as Nintendo said that they were definitely trying to make each attraction more like full fledged "games", in what I assume is an implied comparison to the sports in Wii Sports.

I got back into Solitaire because of my phone.  I love that I can choose only deals that have been beaten before so I can feel like I'm a Solitaire master.

Actually... I got back into Solitaire because of this post combined with the review of 3D Solitaire for the 3DS... I lose so many games because the 3DS release doesn't guarantee that its "deals" are winnable T-T
