General Gaming / RE: PS3: gaming takes a backseat
« on: May 31, 2005, 12:20:50 PM »
...I think Ken is the "Anti-Reggie"

Reggie's all about the customer and fan base, "I'm here to kick ass and we're here to make games." and all that...and Ken is all "The PSP is perfect if you don't like it you're stupid." and "The PS3 is not for children, stupid."

Seriously.  Is he -trying- to piss off consumers?  It's freakin stupid sounding to me.  "Lets piss off the people that held us afloat while we were selling inferior hardware at a loss.  That will make money!"

I agree though that Sonic Team would learn a lot from Nintendo. By my count Nintendo has not screwed up a 2D-to-3D conversion yet.

Well, that being said, I think the reason Sonic Team screwed up so badly was because Sonic the Hedgehog is really a 2D game, first and foremost.  The style of gameplay isn't suited to that tricky third dimension.   Sonic is about speed, IIRC, and when you add in some depth to that, it complicates things.

I think they should have taken note with Sonic R.  It just doesn't work.

And changing Robotniks name back to Eggman didn't help any either.

Well, my reasoning was that if you put them on a console, then they would be tempted to make another 3D Sonic game.  So I figured, why tempt them when we can avoid it all together?

Yeah, the backorder list only goes back to the issue that has the SSBM CD with it.  Its the earliest you can get.

This totally blows.  Sega's gone from a creative powerhouse to playing second fiddle to a Pachinko machine company.

W. T. F.

Sonic Team really needs to jump ship and sign on with Nintendo, and then ONLY develop games for the DS.  They've already proven they can't handle three dimensions.  Two seems to suit them just fine.

Heh.  Well, I guess I'll find out in 5 to 10 business days.

But, if I had to hazard a guess as to whether or not I'll be getting the CD with the magazine...I'd say no.

It will still be cool to read up on Smash Brothers "before it was released", ya know?

Yeah...that was the impetus for me.  The ability to watch the Zelda trailer on my Grandmothers big screen tv.

Hopefully they'll include the other two Zelda trailers as well, for spits and higgles.

Isn't Zeruda's cloak based on a Japanese mourning garment? To show her inability to do anything about Hyrules plight?

And besides, badasses wear cloaks.  Its kinda like a "cape", only it actually looks cool.

I think monkeys would automatically make it a generic "Jungle" temple.

...is there such a thing yet?

785
But if the games are free, why encrypt them? The only thing you'd need is some sort of code, or lock so it would only play on a Rev.  Not on any emulator on your comp. Otherwise, you would create a nasty loophole for downloading roms.

Not compatible with GB or GBC games? Well, I was interested until I heard that.

I'll just put the money I was going to use on this towards a GBPlayer.  And a copy of Links Awakening.

And the fact that Iwata said in a interview that Ganondorf would be in the game.

Stevey, I find it hard to beleive that they made Wind Waker without already knowing what the next Zelda was going to be about.

If Aonuma and Miyamoto both want to start focusing on the story alot more now, especially in how it ties into the overall timeline, then I would bet money that they had both WW and TP plotted out storywise a long time ago.

===
And I can't shake the feeling that TP wil tie into MM the same way that WW tied into OOT.  I noticed something the other night.  The eye on Midna's helmet looks like the eye on Majora's mask, as has been stated...and her actual eye resembles it as well.

I think Midna made Majora's Mask.

790
It would be a nice in joke if you replaced Young Link with the cel shaded version and old Link with the model from TP.

And their alternate cotumes should be their civvies!

791
Lessee here.

They should totally give Samus the Dark and Light suits.  It would be cool to get Leon S. Kennedy, but I don't see that happening.

FLUDD Mario and Vacuum Luigi would rock.  Or have Baby Bowser/Evil Mario ala Zelda/Sheik.  That would also rock most mightily.

Zelda should totally be wearing her Twilight Princess getup.

And MIDNA!  Midna should totally be a playable  character

The local Hastings (video, game, and bookstore) is already selling UMD movies.  I don't know how well they're selling though

But, considering this is a smaller town with only a Hastings and a Walmart to buy videogames at, I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't selling well at all.  I was shocked to see them in the first place.

Those are tech specs of a prototype that is due for major redesign.

The prototype probably isn't even online yet, if it works at all.

I don't think MM was a few decades after OOT.  More like...a few weeks into it, alternate timeline.

I really hope its just a translation issue like it was with WW.  Where it's not 100 years, but actually 1000.

Maybe a few decades means a few hundred years?

Unless you're Factor 5.  Or Rare.

...or SK.

I would have put SE in there, but they've gotten better about it recently.

Why don't you just download the original when the Rev is released?

It is sad to seem them go, but...

They did make this announcement without even seeing The Rev's specs.  I think this was less of a graphical issue and more of what Ruby said.

Money talks, and loser developers that only go where said "money" is walks.

...towards the money.
