Nintendo Gaming / RE:Play History! YES!

Users can exchange game data or screenshots. E-mail messages can also be exchanged between mobile phones and Wii.

Does this mean that you could you just message your friend saying, "Hey, I want your save of Smash Bros. with everything unlocked" and then have him send it over? This could open up some interesting possibilities. On one hand, it might lead to more people just finding game saves instead of playing it themselves. On the other, you could use it to send a game save to your friend so it is there when you visit him/her later that night--no memory card required. Unless you can only send whatever game data the developers allow you to (like specific items in Animal Crossing.

As for the e-mail messages, I wonder how that will be done. Will everyone get a user@wii.com address? Can the Wii function as a general, though limited, e-mail client where you can choose your own servers?

Unfortunately, I was kidding about my response. The only time I got to play video games during school was when we had a sort of "free day" in 4th grade. I played Super Mario Bros. Delux on my friend's GameBoy Color.

More like playing games all though A/V club during school hours.

I just think that log-keeping should be optional. I have nothing to hide (except frequent games of Hello Kitty: Roller Rescue), but if somebody wants their gameplay logged then it should be their choice.

Edit: I was under the impression that it would contain specific times about every gaming session you have (30 minutes of Zelda starting at 5:40), but I guess this isn't the case.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wii Pre-Orders & Bundles
« on: September 27, 2006, 03:58:28 PM »
So I had my father visit a FYE games down by his work (I am 15 and without a car) and they told him that they were accepting pre-orders for $50 down. He asked if they required that you buy a bundle, but the sales rep said they don't know yet. My dad forgot to ask how many had already pre-ordered.

What do you guys think? Should I go pre-order with them or go for midnight at Wal-Mart?

It still pains me to see the "bestseller" sticker on my copy of Mario Power Tennis. Luckily, I highly doubt that will happen this generation, seeing as Nintendo isn't even going for "Only for Wii" labels. I really like the minimalistic approach Nintendo is taking with the overall design of the Wii (box art, menu interface, the actual console). As much as I love technology, it is nice to have a clean presentation.

First off, the feature should be completely optional--even the offline logs. Logging should always be an option. As long as the disable feature is password-protected then it can still function as parental monitoring system (which is kind of pointless, in my opinion).

I wonder if the data will be personally-identifiable. What I mean is will Nintendo have the ability to look at the data and say "Hmm...user 16362 really likes to play both Metroid and Final Fantasy"?

I don't think they count VC games as channels either... I hope, lol.

It is not strictly a channel because it does not appear as a box with the others. It has its own icon in the lower right. By this definition, the virtual console games are each still indvidual channels (I haven't seen that "N64 Games" one)

459
From what we have seen, there is a seperate channel for each Virtual Console game you have purchased. I do not think we have seen how you actual buy the games.

One channel for all of that would definitely make more sense and reduce clutter.

Wii's Channels won't end with the first 12. Up to 48 channels can be added at the moment.

This suggests a limit of 60 channels. If each virtual console game occupies one channel slot, then that could become a problem for people who really like to download classic games. Then again, they do say "at the moment", so maybe more spaces could be added.

I don't know if my local FYE or Sam Goody are taking pre-orders, but do you guys think there is any advantage in waiting for GameStop/EB to start their pre-order deal? Does GameStop normally get more consoles or earlier shipments than places like FYE or Sam Goody?

Edit: None of my local FYE, Sam Goody, or Suncoast locations are accepting pre-orders, so I guess it doesn't matter. I sure hope that GameStop has a good pre-order deal.

If it is backwards, shouldn't we see the port that attachments (such as the nunchaku) plug into?

(Sorry to continue such a pointless discussion.)

That was Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for GBC. Actually, the reason I bought a GameBoy Color in the first place was seeing one of my classmates playing that game (I was in 4th grade at the time).

I know that Brain Training is really picky about the word "blue", but did they actually destroy your DS to a point where it wouldn't function?

I wish Ian were here to make this thread interesting with something like, "Nintendo said this game would be last traditional Zelda game. Now, they use this year-long delay to add g!mmicky controls instead of actual content."

I still have my Twilight Princess reservation for the GameCube, I wonder if I should switch it over to the Wii.

TalkBack / RE:USA Today Interview with Reggie
« on: August 15, 2006, 10:25:24 AM »
Reggie really does fill the gap that most of Nintendo's public speakers leave (e.g., Iwata, Kaplan, Miyamoto). While most of them represent Nintendo with humility by separating themselves from the competition and calling competitor's actions "flattering", Reggie just steps in and states Nintendo's true intentions/desires as a company. It is safe to assume that he was the first Nintendo representative to say something like "kicking ass" to the public and I think in-your-face statements like that grab the attention of people who think Nintendo is just this Japanese company making games that cater to little kids.

Edit: This is really strange. It goes from being availible to unavailible every 5 seconds.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo Fusion Tour Dates Revealed
« on: July 28, 2006, 01:08:20 PM »
I live near Seattle, Washington. Being 15 years old and without a license, I would have to have one of my parents drive me across the state to attend. I do not see why Nintendo would choose Spokane versus the highly-populated Seattle area (which Nintendo is located in). I guess they wanted to choose a location that would be within resonable distance for multiple states. Still, I don't think I will be making it. Here's to hoping Wii will be released before November 2nd.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:New Super Mario Bros high score challenge!
« on: July 20, 2006, 08:33:03 AM »
I had two near-perfect runs when I got 373. Since then, I have not been able to repeat them (though I haven't tried much, either). I use regular-sized Mario for all of my runs. For comparison, I always enter the pipe at 383 and exit at 379.

I am also convinced that anything greater than 370 is impossible on 1-3.

Care to enlighten us (or at least me)? No matter what, I have to almost stop somewhere on the stairs and it must take at least a second of my time.

Edit: I just got 373 twice in a row! (On stage 1-1)

I was able to avoid the slow down at the staircase by jumping while crouched down. First I jumped about half of the way up, then all the way over. Then it is just a small jump to the flag pole. Do all of this with good timing and you can get over the stairs with minimal slowdown.

1-3
370

If the MSRP actually ends up being lower, do these game stores still charge the price point from the time your pre-ordered?

Also, on a slightly unrelated note, has anyone found any good pre-order options for the U.S. yet?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Miyamoto Australian Interview
« on: June 11, 2006, 08:21:02 PM »
Miyamoto called the system the "Nintendo Wii". I believe Nintendo issued a statement to the press on how to use the name, placing emphasis on the fact that the system is simply called "Wii". Iwata will not be happy.
