Nintendo Gaming / RE: Suprised no one is flipping out about this yet ...

From IGN ...

There's a slight difference between the Link found in the Wii and GameCube versions of Twilight Princess. Have you been able to spot it?

The answer is in how Link holds his sword. Responding to questions at a Q&A session in Tokyo today, producer Shigeru Miyamoto stated that Link was initially supposed to be left-handed in the Wii version of Twilight Princess, like he is in the GameCube version. However, noting that more users will swing the controller with the right hand, Nintendo made Link hold the sword in his right hand just for the Wii version.

So there you have it. Link is right handed on Wii and left handed on GameCube.

Well, I'm fully expecting the Zelda fans to freak right the hell out now.

I agree.  For someone who was gushing about the control scheme so much, he didn't explain anything about what's so different about it.

You're probably thinking it would be a simple matter of flipping the X axis or something, but it just wouldn't work that way.

My First Wii is a series of mini-games that look to be exclusive for the Japanese market.  They'll be bundled in with a Wii-mote.

Well, since a Chuk can't be used without being connected to a remote, I'm over it.  Just seeing a video of boxing in action is making my absolutely SALIVATE over the idea of EA porting Fight Night 3 with a first person mode to Wii.

Mea culpa ... apparently my "source" gave me some misinformation about the steering wheel.  It is indeed plastic, albeit some very ... VERY, cheap plastic.

No-brainer?  Really?

Have you seen any pictures or video of ANYONE playing a Wii game left-handed?  In fact, has there ever been a left-handed controller (save for the goofy one-handed PS1 controller)?

Giving someone the option of playing left or right handed would nearly DOUBLE the amount of QA time it would take to test the game, since you now need to go through everything twice, once in each configuration.  Why?  Because you have the potential of one small change cascading through all the code, and causing a bug that just doesn't happen playing right-handed.  I can't see anyone spending the time and money to both implement and test such a feature, since we've all been conditioned to play games right-handed anyway.

Of course, the one exception to this is the Wii-Sports games, or other small mini-games, where the code is simpler, and the gameplay naturally lends itself to "handedness".

I'm still a little heartbroken over the last of a Wii in "Nintendo Red".  I'm sure I'll get over it.

Well, hopefully the Nunchuk cord isn't too long.  Too long, and I'll have just enough cord to hang myself when I go for an uppercut.  I'm not the most coordinated guy on the planet ...

Well, I feel sorry for you suckers.  I'll just go down to the Nintendo office here in Washington and go to the parts department.  The always have accessories cheaper than in the stores.  That's where I originally got my black and gold N64 controllers from.  No box or anything nifty like that, but hey, I'd just throw that crap away anyway.  Besides, this way, I won't slice off my gaming fingers with the ridiculous razor-plastic they'll pack the damned things in.

They didn't.  In fact, I recall them saying that they were pretty sure they'd only launch in ONE color.

(Well, I'm not totally counting it out yet, but... well, I've got my work cut out for me in convincing her that it's a good idea.)

Do what I do.  Shuffle small amounts of money into a Paypal account until you have enough to get what you want.  When that doesn't work, sell something ... like blood, or organs.

I can't believe I'm about to agree with Ian, but here goes ...

I agree ... making the Nunchuk an optional attachment immediately brings all of the problems for developers that you might expect.  The cost to play their game just rose.  This is partially alleviated by including one in the box, and perhaps Nintendo thinks that the "core gamer" will be the only ones with need of additional Nunchuks.  Regardless, it makes it unnecessarily difficult on the developer.

Unless that was the point.  I speculated early on that Mario Galaxy might be a Remote-Only game, as a way to show developers how to build games around the new interface.  Turned out this wasn't the case (Mario uses the Nunchuk too), but I think Nintendo is looking at the attachment as being a mostly core-gamer peripheral.  Maybe even a "gateway" for casual gamers that want to learn to play other things too.

I'm going on record right now as saying that Nintendo will release the machine a week earlier than this and will drop the price to $229.

I need details, people ... anyone know if you can use two regular remotes?  I'd love to be able to box without worrying that I'm going to strangle myself with the Nunchuk cord.

Are there any photos or videos around of someone actually playing it yet?

If the songs fit the new story (and they do) then I can't see why any of you would have a problem with it.

That said, I played EBA at the Penny Arcade Expo, and immediately became a Must-Buy for me, when I showed no interest in it previously.  I'm really looking forward to it now.

So obvious Wii will ship in only White.  OK, I can deal.  But Nintendo is expecting us to create a "Mii" and download it to our own personal Wii-mote.  So are they going to ship the Wii-mote in different colors so my wife and I can tell ours apart when they're sitting on the coffee table?
