Pokemon is MADE to be MMO. They would have to make a character design screen of course, and a much larger world but it would be great as an MMO. The only problem is that you wouldn't get the natural progression in the game. The place that you start at wouldnt be all Lv 2 people. They would have to work around this.

I just want to add that the Pokemon world is already a mmorpg.  All those other trainers are playing the same game as you, except they're NPCs.  All you have to do is make them player-controlled, and you have a MMORPG.

Just for reference, it depends on what province you live in.  For example, here in Ontario, males do pay more for insurance.  However in provinces where the auto insurance is run by the province (Alberta, if I remember correctly), men pay the same as women.

Of course, the thing they were most excited about was the psp. Hey thats fine, to each their own. Then they went on to recap some of sonys ps2 games. Again, i have no problem with this. Then they moved on to the xbox, and recapped some of its games. again, great! Then the pc games came next.........and then the recap was over.

somehow these fools didnt even mention nintendo was at the show, let alone mention the ds. what a joke.

You're either thinking Electric Playground or Reviews on the Run.  Most likely the first, though.  Anyways, I've seen this show many times, and the annoying one (smaller guy) just simply hates Nintendo.  The other guy, I find, is usually more fair towards them however.  Then again, he's always the one doing the Nintendo-related interview.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Possible DS SP?
« on: July 26, 2004, 06:43:24 PM »
First of all you have to take into account that the SP didn't arrive until 2 yrs after the original GBA was released.

As for the DS's physical design, I have realized my beliefs:
1) Should Nintendo 'tweak' the DS's design? A: Yes, certainly.
2) Do you trust Nintendo to do it? A: No, not really.

Again for the possibility of an SP edition, we need to think of two factors: Need and Cost.  What more does the DS need to be substancially better, but still retaining the original gaming function?  I can't think of anything, maybe the controls could be an issue, but I'll wait until I have actually tried the thing.  And for cost, can Nintendo afford to release two editions of such a risky system, when using the redesign from the beginning will improve the DS's overall chances of success?  Frankly, I don't think so.  To be honest, I'm very concerned about the cost of the system anyway, and I could never imagine myself paying $240 CDN for a portable, and $50 for portable quality games.  Sure, you could argue that it's warranted by it's never-before-seen gaming, but that just isn't enough for me.  And I think this could pose a serious threat to handheld gaming, in my opinion, because the only other option I have no hopes for (simply too expensive).  But now it seems I am changing subjects.

I just have to say that Windfall Island was my favourite 'town' of the series.  The music was enjoyable and appropriate, and the the whole island seemed well designed.

I doubt Zellers will have it.  They didn't even have Harvest Moon when it came out.  Walmart might have it though.  It's at Best Buy?  There's one here in Ottawa, but I'll have to risk waiting 4 weeks before I buy it.

BTW, what media is the DS going to be using?  Nintendo says that the DS offers a taste of things to come for the Revolution.  They already shot down the Revolution being dual screened.  So that leaves sweet wireless connectivity or some DS-like media notorious to the DS.  To me, 30 meter connectivity on a home console doesn't make much sense, so it could possibly be a different medium on this console.  And then like the DS, there would be a place for the Revolution's predecessor for backward-compatibility.

Wow, you might not think much of the '30m connectivity', but that really got me thinking.  It sort of borrows from that 'appartment idea' too.  Just imagine playing wireless LAN, with absolutely no setup.  You just need 2 Revolutions, and 2 TVs.  Your system will automatically detect the other system, within a certain radius (hopefully bigger than 30m).  What's special about this, is that you don't have to move any televisions sets.  You don't have to hook up both systems to a network.  Frankly, I find this bloody brilliant.  If this could be possible with no separate networks, simply one console communicating with another, wirelessly (comparable to Wavebird communicating with GameCube, it could be 'revolutionary'.  LAN would be so simple, something which would follow Nintendo's ideology.  As of now, I've been turned off by the complexity of LAN gaming, but this really appeals to me.  As long as everything is built in, that is.

The St. Louis Science Center prominently sports one, it's an even greater sight to behold when it's showing.  The big honkin sound system is as stunning to the ears as the screen is to the eyes.

It is actually an iMax theater and is one of the few things beginning with "i" that is in no way related to apple. The St. Louis Science Center calls its iMax theater the OmniMax cause it sounds cool. They're showing Harry Potter there right now and I want to go. They were showing Matrix Revolutions at iMax theaters and at the time I wanted to see it but there were no theaters near me playing it. I don't know how many there are in the US. I'd guess it would be a rather small number.

Sorry to correct you, but it is actually an 'iMax Omnimax' theatre.  The reason for the 'omnimax' in the name is because of the screen's curved concave ellipse shape.  If it wasn't concave, it would simply be a 'iMax' theatre.  I know this because there's an Omnimax at the Ontario Science Centre, in Toronto, and an iMax at the Museum of Civilization, in Hull (Gatineau), Québec.

I picked this game up at EB a few weeks ago, and boy did I get a steal!  However, I have yet to play it because I'm going to wait until I have enough time to truly appreciate the game.

the new market would be the hundreds of million of people worldwide who have played video games and don't own a Gameboy.

Take my parents, for example. Back in the early 80's video games were a major part of their entertainment budget. They bought dozens if not hundreds of Atari 2600 games. They played, their friends played... they were simple and approachable, and fun.

When the NES came out, I couldn't get them to touch it. All those buttons and directional pads were intimidating. That has gotten worse over the last few generations, not better.

The real money in the DS is not in the overlap with the GBA (although it will overlap somewhat). Its in all those people who would like to play video games but feel the games are unapproachable. If the control system is intuitive (and a touchscreen is certainly easy enough to understand, remember, this is the generation that plays all those touch screen slot machine games at casinos) and there are games that don't have a huge learning curve to get started with, they will play them.

Do you honestly think your assessment is accurate?  If someone is afraid of a D-pad (and I know your exaggerating), will they really find a touchscreen less 'intimidating'?  If you ask me, two screens is twice as complicated as one.

HM is NOT real time.  As you would say, it's 'play as you go'.  In HM FOMT, you can save whenever/wherever you want, and a day lasts about 5-10 minutes realtime. (estimation)

This reminds me of my xbox live slogan that I made up: "It's good to hate together".  Ok, I probably wasn't the very first to think of that, but I haven't heard it before either.

643
Honestly, what major difference does it make whether the games fit together, or not?  As long as each individual story is excellent, we shouldn't worry.

I really want to see Diddy Kong.  And he has to have his boombox too.

You can't really compare the two.  It's like Mario and Zelda - you run around in worlds, trying to accomplish goals - but they're just different.

But still in terms of how long I played each, Harvest Moon wins by a long-shot.  In terms of what you can do, Harvest Moon still wins.  But you have to play both before you can decide.

General Chat / RE:Nintendo Innovations 1: The hand controller.
« on: January 20, 2004, 08:43:07 AM »
You forgot the innovation of comfort!  Of all the system's I've played (a LOT), the GameCube's controller is the only one which doesn't hurt my hands after a couple hours of gaming, nor is akward (PS, IMO).  Yes the Z button and directional pads aren't perfect, but they also happen to be the least used parts of the controller.  I could say to my friends that I don't like the Xbox controller, but they would just reply "but now there's the S-type controller and it's the best thing ever!"   WELL SORRY,  I was talking about the S-type, I didn't realize anyone used the original controller!  I'm getting a little off topic, so anyways, I think it should be pointed out that after all the remodeling and reshaping, GameCube is still the only 'real' comfy controller.
