It's not even April yet.

And like I already said, it is entirely fair to compare spec numbers between 360 and Revolution (it wouldn't be so fair to compare PS3) as ATI made the GPU in both systems and IBM made the CPU in both systems.

This is Nintendo showing off the controller and then gesturing for Sony to come and step all over them; "Here Sony, steal our ideas, we are not going to defend them with hardware, hell, we might as well not even have a system so in five years when you clone our controller on the PS4 noone will care because we never did anything with it.  People might even go so far as to say you saved that innovation from our cold dead hands."

Why isn't Nintendo just partnering with MS?  Why isn't the Revolution controller the interface for one of the other two consoles?

I'm going to be pissed if it's an April fools joke cause it's too early and too sensitive of a subject to be messing around with.

Though GCN and Xbox specs mattered little, the 360 and Revolution are both made by the same companies so specs will be fair game for comparisons.

I'm sorry if I sound negative, but it seems Nintendo despite all their efforts to fix what was wrong with GCN (no online, FisherPrice lunchbox aesthetics, and a controller that was only different from the competition's in that it was an eye sore and had fewer buttons) are screwing up what worked best about the hardware; it competed graphically with the Xbox.  And though GCN's CPU was of lower mhz compared to Xbox's, the GCN CPU was able to make a pass and a half for every single one the Pentium could.  This time though things are more level in the way of ATI and IBM making the chips in both consoles.  Looking at the specs of 360 and Revolution this time will actually give a fair comparison, in theory.

It just bugs the hell out of me that Nintendo is not only not supporting HD, they have admited its affects on gameplay by saying they will support it with a future system (reminds me of their arrogance about online with GCN), they are a year late, there has been no confirmation of even an optional first party hard drive, and they still do not match the 360 in specs and raw graphical effects.  The source claims it is "unlikely the GPU will feature any added shaders."

In my eye, lighting effects as opposed to pixel ratios are the most prolific change from the previous generation of hardware, and Nintendo is penching pennies and brushing both off like they do hoping it will all just go away.  That last secret better be awesome; it better not be some g!mmick like: it can broadcast the audio and video signals to TVs wirelessly or it comes with a small 480p screen.

The 360 has around five times the RAM of Revolution, and honestly the only game on 360 that has my attention because of graphics is Gears of War; judging from how I feel about 360's graphics, I'm not expecting to be wowed by Nintendo's "next gen" visuals.  It just speaks to me that once again three years after the system comes out I am going to be asking myself when is the next time Nintendo is going to release a game, a game I am interested in, because I'm not buying a third party half raw feature-raped port.

Now Nintendo I predict is moving Zelda to Revolution for launch, it must have been doing it all along; there isn’t much difference between the hardware specs anyways so it can’t be that much work.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Kotaku Insider suggests Revolution delay?
« on: March 27, 2006, 03:51:58 PM »
People in America have been waiting for Sony and Nintendo for a year, if Nintendo can't deliver a system within a year of 360, without HD support, without multi cored chips, and with what feels like a two year buffer for software teams to be making games now; it won't be good.  What the hell have they been doing for the past two to three years if the Revolution isn't coming out this year?

256
I believe the people at EGM do know something they can't print.  It could be something as simple as both Mario Brothers and Metroid online at launch.  Add in Zelda TP compatibility with the remote and you have the definition of the perfect launch.

257
i bolded implications because that is refering to the speculation of what the big secret could be if it were true

General Gaming / RE:what if the ps3-mote was revealed at E3?
« on: March 26, 2006, 03:42:33 PM »

With PSP2, if I were in control of Sony, I would ditch the disk format and make it the ipod of games, but Nintendo will beat them to it most likely.  I would give it dual touch screens, which Nintendo will also most likely beat them to.  On the touch screens though would go clear plates with mechanics unique to the game you buy.

"It's a big deal - the implications and possibilities are pretty incredible. I can't wait for E3!"  - 1up editor Sam Kennedy in response to the following:

"Does Nintendo really have a big secret left?  Hardware related?  Interface related?  Display related?  They have a lot to show at E3 but do they have something major still under wraps that affects software?  Are they buying a company, using a PPU to give their CPU a break, doing something revolutionary with the pad/cradle facial mechanics; stereoscopics to compete with HD?  I don't see any reason in waiting to E3 if it isn't something big, bigger than the controller which they showed last year.  If they really want to blow my mind they would make it so the games we download can all be edited with an intuitive point and click game editor, meaning when you download SMB3, you can take the elements, the sprites, music, animations, etc and create your own game setting up triggers as easily as dropping shortcuts or powerups; furthermore you could take elements from the other 2D SMB games and mix them together.  Plus using the remote one can draw 2D sprites and backgrounds, if you are really hardcore, from scratch to put into the game."

Nintendo Gaming / RE:What GO could mean if true

GO is clever.

Better than Super, 64, GameCube, Dolphin, or StarCube.  I just wanted to say StarCube.

I'm still not sure how a fighting game is going to turn out on Revolution if it isn't a boxing game or a sword fighting game.  If thought maybe dual remotes but using the remotes to direct where the blow lands.  Doing combos with the dpads, a buttons, b buttons, and x and y you could switch the function of the remote from kicking, punching, grapples, etc.  So maybe you are using the right one for your strong kick, and you use the left remote for your stong punch.  Like you said, it doesn't have to be simulative all the time; look at how in Zelda DS you trace an outline for the boomerang.

Nintendo Gaming / What GO could mean if true

engaget's article

Most have probably seen this.  The yet to be proven fake or real logo for the system code named Revolution.

Some have speculated it might be Nintendo's online plan.  It has been said it means the number five in japanese.  But do not forget that it is also the name of a board game that I believe the former pres of the company enjoys playing.

It also suggests portability, action, movement, and the appearance of the letters GO is similar to the way Nintendo designed the DS logo with an image of the dual screens using the letter o at the end of Nintendo.  The image was a pun on the mechanic and if this GO really is the final name of the system, the look of the text for the word GO may give us some hint at what Nintendo has planned at E3.  Did I not read a quote from Iwata yesterday saying the biggest secret has yet to be revealed?  How is that so?  Game On.

Yeah, this game looks awesome; I expect the next time we see a 2D Zelda it will be online.

I believe it looks like the boat is not a sail boat but a steam boat, upgrade.  No more wind, the wind would only be a good effect if the Zelda game centered around flying on a dragon or griffin.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GDC Iwataton Speech Thread
« on: March 23, 2006, 12:33:22 PM »
I have to agree with Ian that Nintendo has not delivered yet a new IP that appeals to the gamers born from Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Megaman, and all those other great firsts in this industry; and damn they were so much sweeter when they were firsts rather than twenty firsts.

On the otherhand, Zelda DS looked awesome, blending the top down 2D layout of the world with the 3D graphics from WindWaker; I still can't believe they are doing those graphics on the DS.

I would think the NintendoGo name could be legit considering the number pun; plus look at the GO in comparison to the dual squares on the DS logo.  The G breaks loose from being a box and spirals in.

I was hoping for some Zelda TP juice though.

“Our first controller meeting was in 2004 and we had several requirements. It needed to be wireless and the look of the controller had to be simple, non-threatening but had to be sophisticated enough to server the needs of complicated games.”

i've been talking about one handed game controllers since i found i could nolonger eat chips and play Zelda at the same time with the GCN pad.  they approached this from the wrong direction and it sounds like it took them two years to figure out they needed to do seperate hemispheres.

I believe a redesign is in store for Sony's pad, but I don't believe it will be anything more than that, it will still be a pad.  Maybe there will be a trackball or a touch screen which uses tactile plates, but I would not expect anything revolutionary.

« on: March 20, 2006, 03:28:26 PM »
I've been suspicious of this being the reason for the delay since it was first announced.  Perhaps at GDC we will find out whether this means full 3D sword control or simply just aiming for the bow and camera control via the remote.

And I do think this means Zelda at or within a month of launch of Revolution.

Here is the tactile touch interface I suggested Sony might be up to:

Nintendo Gaming / RE:What gamers want in the next Nintendo system
« on: March 15, 2006, 06:03:33 PM »
Things I personally want:

Standard widescreen support in games.

A packed in hard drive that can be replaced.  I want universal friends list options.

A packed in shell/frame/cradle that connects the nunchuck and remote and adds secondary facial mechanics allowing third party ports while retaining remote functionality.

I want one Super Mario Brothers game, I want it at launch, I want cooperative modes, and I want it to be similar to the New SMB on DS.

I want an ethernet port.

I want the power of the system to be focused on lighting rather than surface effects.

I want game editing tools for downloaded games.

I want some downloadable games to eventually have patches for the new remote and online multiplayer.

I want to see some original (big and dark) franchises.

And how long do I have to wait for a Star Wars game?
