Nintendo Gaming / RE:Japan hates Wii.
« on: April 28, 2006, 11:55:04 AM »
After all the puns about pricks and piss where off people will realize that it is also suggests tiny, so it will start all over again, but with the tiny dicks; then it will progress to homoerotic jokes because of the pairing of phalices.  From there it can only get worse.  The only positive is what the logo's look suggests, the dots in the ii could represent stereoscopics.  If so, the name still sucks, and the timing was even worse off.

Has anyone seen any pictures of the logo with two penises in place of the ii yet?  Because it is going to happen if it hasn't already.

I'm still pissed about this, they could have polled a message board and come up with a better name than this.  Nintendo now has as much of a chance in America as Microsoft in Japan.  And they had so much going for them, it is just disappointing, every cycle Nintendo makes stupid...no, retarded mistakes that shouldn't make it beyond someone's common sense defense; I'd fire someone if I ran a billion dollar company and the words "let's name it Wii" dribbled out of someone's mouth onto the table.  This isn't what you name your child if you want people to take him seriously in life.

"IGN Wii: We're now called IGN Wii. How could you do this to us?

Perrin Kaplan: Say that again."

When I read that, I knew I was not alone in being turned off by this name.  I don't know how anyone could defend this.  I don't even want to tell my friends this, I'm not, I'm just going to keep calling it Revolution.  If I told them Nintendo changed the name of their new console to Wii as in you want to play with my weewee, it wouldn't be good.  They are already biased Madden gamers.

I've slept on it, the name ran through my head all morning, and now I hate it worse than I did yesterday just because it interupted my sleep.

Nintendo needs to break out some pink slips; this is like when attention whore movie stars name their kids Tampon and Lightbulb.  I can only guess because they want you to know what was involved in its conception, obviously there were some golden streams involved in the naming of this one.

Suddenly Nintendo is Michael Jackson with a circus in his back yard saying, "hey kids, want to come play with my wii?"

If I email Nintendo a letter it will read something like this.

The other day I debated with someone for three pages about how the Revolution bridges the gap between the pad of the console and the mouse of the PC because they said that if Nintendo released a jar of piss I would still buy it.  Goddamn you Nintendo!

I have an idea, how about the media and consumers all ignore what Nintendo has done and continue to refer to the system as Revolution until they change it back.

Haptics are an advanced form of force feedback that would allow for example the analog stick to give you resistence when turning.  There are 3D touch models that are anchored to a base (requiring a table like a mouse) for the PC; the device allows for you to feel objects in 3D.  You may feel around a physical object, and furthermore feel its texture, bark, slime, armor; bone as you impale an enemy.  Microsoft could do something like this, they have access to Immersion's patents, getting developers to adopt it on 360 is another thing.  It would require a big game like Too Human or Halo to really push a redesign of their controller.  Because really it is going to be hard to convince developers at that point to not just move development to Revolution which is built around the controller (and it's wireless).

I believe it was confirmed that each bar can keep up with several remotes and works with any screen size.

Let us view it in context.  The remote works in 3D.  Why, why do we need a 3D remote, why not just throw in a gyro in each hemisphere; by all means it gives you more than a mouse but lacks the tracking along 3D planes (x, y, and z).  The gyro tech works for tilting and rolling, our screens are only 2D, so why do we suddenly require 3D control, would it not be lost in some part in the limits of a 2D screen?  Thus stereo scopics actually make some sense.  You need 3D control because your image is nolonger flat.  The objects you are interacting with are nolonger only from left to right, up and down; now you have to interact with objects in 3D, now you have to block and attack along the z axis as well so you need to be able to see that axis.

The easiest way I can explain the remote is the tilt tech is for wrist control and the bar detects the movements of your arm/body.

First the juice:  The Last Secret about the hardware or controller.

So there is already one thread discussing the possibility of the nunchuck peripheral having a gyro built in as well.  If this rumor turns out true I would believe it would not be as fully functional as the remote piece which works with the sensor bar.  Speaking of the sensor bar, our next rumor circling the last secret of the system code named Revolution involves that mysterious black bar.

In revolution.ign's podcast it was said, and I'm paraphrasing, that some times you'll see that bar out there and some times you won't.  What that means is up to you.  Honestly, I don't know what the hell that means unless it means you'll be wearing a HMD with the bar attached to your head...but wouldn't that interfer with the remote?

And I have no segue for the last rumor.  In revolution.ign's Nintendo Minute 26 Perrin Kaplan said, " As always, the hard-core gamers have a lot of ground to cover at E3, but they will "feel" the future of gaming in our booth."  Some are speculating that she is hinting at some form of haptics.

I want to add some other rumors about software.

There is the thread on the Knights rumor from Famitsu, but I want to throw some coals on the fire.

The developer of Ikarus this week is Retro according to a spanish site.  In case you didn't get that, just the other day there were "leaked" character concepts for Ikarus bearing the Capcom logo in the corner, which could very well be possible considering that Phoenix game which never saw the light of day from the Capcom 5 aka Sir Not-Appearing-in-this-Film.  But there is more.  In the past I'm pretty sure EGM said Konami's Acid team was going to make a Revolution title using a Nintendo franchise, at the time, it seemed like they would fit best with something like Ikarus but on second thought it might be Eternal Darkness.  And in the past I have personally speculated that Silicon Knights would do the deed of making either of those games, but that ship has sailed...

And now the most solid software rumor.  Donkey Kong sidescroller for Revolution.  I know most of you would love this, but what it means is both DK and Mario Bros will be vastly different in control, otherwise it would make much better sense to just put Kong in Mario Bros.  It sounds like DK will be a sidescroller according to a few rumors which could confirm that Mario Bros is 3D.   At least we won't be getting another Sunshine.

oh, what the hell, while I'm at it, I'll start my own rumor, RE2rebirth for Revolution; peace.

the reason they havn't made a new Knights game is because a true sequel would require something like...the remote to once again wow players with a new level of interaction, a game that feels like you are flying.  i've been wanting something like that for years, and was sour about the absence of flying in Luigi's Mansion and Mario Sunshine.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Rumour: Nunchuck to have Dual 3D motion sensing
« on: April 21, 2006, 03:45:16 PM »
sounds more like they are just putting a gyro in the nunchuck piece (where the remote works in 3d with multiple technologies including the sensor bar).  i've been reading all kinds of BS on the internet lately, one rumor said the remote would have a power glove type peripheral attaching the remote to your wrist i guess but hooked to something in your palm that has a key ring peripheral.  i guess i only remembered it because i've been thinking that it would be cool if the remote had a loop or ring that went through the top and bottom where the a and b buttons are.  you could click it down like an a button, scroll it, pull it like a trigger, and spin the remote around in your hand without it flying off.  you could spin your pistol in a game, reel a rod when fishing, load a revolver spinning the wheel and then cock the hammer, use a spinning mechanism for a particular cannon in Metroid, you could roll the ball in Metroid continuously, it could be used for steering in Mario Kart, or fast turn control in first person while the remote is used for precise aim or sword play.

« on: April 13, 2006, 10:17:24 PM »
i wasn't sure what to do for the stomach area, everything i came up with had been done

A button:  jump
B button:  arm cannon
Dpad:  visor/cannon selection, scrolling left to right for combat weaponry, and up and down for elemental or alien aquired weapons
Z1:  scan/lock on
Z2:  press to toggle dpad between visor and cannon selection

using thumb from analog stick:

X button:  map
Y button:  ball

Weapons like missiles and grappling beam would be amongst the general combat weaponry; stuff you would start with in deathmatch.

General Gaming / RE:Lionhead bought out by Microsoft
« on: April 08, 2006, 03:13:51 PM »
MS buys Lionhead so they can't make a Revolution game, and then MS tells users you don't need a 360, we're just burning money; you'll be able to play Lionhead's games on a PC.  MS has two heads, and until they can put their company back together they cannont compete within the world console market.

I'm most happy with the fact that this is not only an original game but it is so built up around the remote it can not translate to other consoles well; it would be like trying to play Metroid Hunters on PSP.

Why would GI get this exclusive; seriously, GI does not like Nintendo.

The graphics don't look bad but they aren't mind blowing either; it shows just how hard the 360 is to develop for in spite of it's CPU specs.
