Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nintendo's FREE Internet plan? - DS/Rev?

I just looked this up to get a better understanding
Quote

AC
Alternating Current or AC electricity is a back-and-forth movement of electrons in a wire, similar to sloshing water back-and-forth in a hose. When the force of a negative (-) charge is at one end of a wire and a positive (+) potential is at the other end, the electrons in the wire will move away from the (-) charge, just like in DC electricity. But if the charges at the ends of the wires are suddenly switched, the electrons will reverse their direction.

Does that mean the the system recieving could theoretically switch the direction of flow and temporarily be sending?

Or is it just really late and I should just goto sleep? (its after 2am and been a really long day)

I actually think that could be reinventing the image of GC, it could get rid of the tiku tiku tiku!  image and become more of a cool item to own. Kinda like how everyone(casual gamers) thought that the Playstation Portable could play Playstation games.

well the outlets in my house are connected to the powerlines throughout my house, which are then connected to the powerline outside providing electricty to my house.

So wouldn't just being plugged in get you connected (assuming the rumor of router/REV is true)??

........or am i just looking at this all wrong??

But isn't the Rev rumored to be some sort of wireless hub/router, which would then be connected to the powerlines, therefore connecting you to every other thing plugged into the wall with the same technology.

You might not be connected to the traditional internet, but maybe more of an intranet of DS's and Revolutions.

I know it all sounds to good to be true, so maybe it is.....
but we'll all find out soon enough

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo's FREE Internet plan? - DS/Rev?
« on: March 12, 2005, 12:50:04 PM »
I don't know all the details behind this technology, but I do know that is is made by Matsushita/Panasonic.
They are very well known business partners w/ Nintendo and could be helping them with thier free internet infastructure.

I came across this YAHOO!! article and they talk about internet over powerlines and how it is faster than current wifi.

Sony is a member of Homeplug, who is also working on thier own version, but it was not up to the level of performance of Matsushita's.

Now what I wanted to know was if was plausible for Nintendo or even Sony to use this tech to make a "no-line" connection between handheld units for those that don't have internet connections.  And since powerllines go everywhere would this make it so that technically, if your DS was on, you truly would never be alone. There would always be someone, somewhere, with a powerline near-by and a DS turned on.

Quote

They have developed a system to transfer 170 Megabits per second of data through the power lines of a home, Panasonic researcher Ingo Chmielewski told journalists at the electronics trade fair CeBIT.
Quote

HomePlug's current standard is only 14 Mbps but it is thought to be working on a faster version.

p.s. Current wifi speeds are 56 Mbps iirc

Or maybe he's saying that he is taking what Iwata said and translating it into his own words (Iwata's last comments were supposedly mis-translated and sounded kinda pessimistic).  I think he's just putting it in a way that we will understand better, a way that comes across clearer than what Iwata may have originally said.

Six years seems to have passed by so fast.  I've been coming here since the OPN2000 days. There was a good discussion on Project Dolphin in a single thread forum(you had to pay attention carefully cause all discussion on all topics happened in the 2 or 3 different threads).

I didn't post much back then (I also blame 56k <more like 38.4k>) but now I have a lot of freetime at work and post alot more.

but anyway
Happy 6th Birthday

actually tablet pc's have been around for a few years, and with the big gaming boom over the last decade years it only makes sense to make one of these tablet pc's game-centric eventually.  There is big money in gaming and no tablet pc is aimed specifically in the direction yet, so what better way to get noticed and expand a pretty small market than to aim yourself at a new demographic?

I'm not a big fan of the Simpsons, but they did have their moments,
such as the april fools episode some odd number of years ago:
The one where Bart puts the Duff beer in the paint shaker for hours and then sets up Homer to open it, as Homer goes to open the beer, Bart jumps out to say "Aprils Fools!!!" but mid sentence the beer blows up and there is a huge mushroom cloud like a nuclear expolsion.

I still think that is one of the best Simpsons moments ever.

But I haven't seen every episode and I'm not really trying to... while I find the Simpsons entertaining I don't particularly find it funny (some times its hilarious, most times its not, its almost always entertaining)

Family guy on the other hand is very unpredictable with the comments, flashbacks, and situations. Not to mention that they do some of the most stupid things that its just undeniably funny.

Arrested Development is probably the most unique show on Fox, from the narration ---> to the family relations, this show is funny in a different way than most other comedies I've ever seen.
Some people just don't get it but I just don't know how to explain it.

____** crosses finger hoping for a Portable GameCube**

I think a PGC (pun coincedental) or ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ is the only way to compete with the PSP w/o direct competition against the DS.
'You pay for a game once and have two different ways to play it. Play at home or Play on the go.'
A PGC would be an extension of the GC still competeing w/ the Xbox & PS2 but would now cross over into a dual market competeing directly with the PSP. I also think that such a product would also rejuvenate interest from 3rd parties that previously dropped support for gamecube now that it would essentially be targeting 2 markets on one format with one product.

I think it is the smart thing to do......
maybe it'll happen
most likely it won't

don't shoot the messenger.....

According to Spong.com (not sure how reliable they are) The DS is gonna evolve into a PDA that can also play N64 quality games while the next gameboy, based on GC hardware will be "The Most Powerful Handheld on the Planet!!" and will connect with the Revolution.

"We believe it is likely that the next version of the Game Boy Advance SP will ship as early as this holiday, ahead of most expectations of calendar year 2006," wrote P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research.

The new system, he predicts, will launch at a $99 price point, with prices on the Game Boy Advance falling to $49. Nintendo DS prices, he wrote, will likely remain unchanged.

Nintendo representatives were unavailable for comment.

I personally don't find this very likely, and would tread all over the DS (which is actually doing very well).  Even though this is to be an announcement to take the wind out of Sony's sales, I think it is a very 'Capcom --> Resident Evil 4' like announcement, which is just a bad idea.

EDIT: I meant to put this in Fast Forward but Ian Sane already beat me to it HERE

Nintendo Gaming / DS launch in AUS is the biggest ever!!??

"The retail and consumer feedback from Thursday's Nintendo DS launch has been astounding," according to Nintendo Australia's sales and marketing director Rose Lappin. "We are eagerly awaiting the official market sales figures this week to fully solidify our place in the Australian marketplace as the most successful current hardware launch ever."
Quote

sales in the first 12 hours have been the highest ever for a new hardware platform in the region - based entirely on retailer feedback.

The platform is already a huge success despite strong market anticipation for Sony's PlayStation Portable - whose European launch was recently pushed back indefinitely due to stock shortages.

Its looking good for the DS in the Wild West, the Far East & now the Down Under

General Gaming / RE:PSP w/ a 50GB internal harddrive!!? iPod killer??
« on: February 25, 2005, 04:59:18 PM »
I just checked on line and a 60gb iPod Photo cost $450 (30gb $350)has 15hrs of music life and 5hrs of photo life

A PSP has 8-10 music life, 2-5hrs video, ?hrs photo

now if (big IF) Sony can beat the iPod in batterylife, include a 50gb HD, keep the size (of the unit) similar, still all the features of the PSP (games included) do you really think $600 is too much to ask (considering you were willing to pay $450 for a 60gig iPod Photo)?

General Gaming / RE:PSP w/ a 50GB internal harddrive!!? iPod killer??

$600 was just an estimated guess

but would you really want to carry around all 3 items @ the same time?

how much do you think a 50gb PSP would cost (w/ all current options)?

hopefully the new Robot Chicken continues to be as randomly unpredictable and funny as the first episode.

Funniest Cartoon:
Family Guy
Futurama
......
Simpsons (some good episodes)
......
South Park

p.s. Is it just me or is American Dad just a re-hash of Family Guy?
kinda like McFarlane said 'You want more family guy..... well here it is again in disguise, Its the same, only different'

edit: You stand corrected

A rumor posted byJoystiq.com from a conference that they attended..
Quote

One speaker (Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities) at the “Positioning for Profitability in the Video Game Economy” conference we attended yesterday let on that he had heard that Sony is working on a flavor of the PSP that includes an internal, 50-gigabyte hard drive. A prototype of the new portable might be out by year-end, but mass production of the new device probably would not happen until next year, he said.

first a possible battery upgrade and now an internal HD - how much does Sony plan on charging for this thing?

How much would you pay for something like this
-videogames
-movies
-music
-photo
-wireless
-50gb harddrive
-ms access

if they could put this out for less than $600 and increase the batterylife to something way beyond 15hrs in mp3 mode (more like 24hr in mp3 mode) then this could really take off
