Nintendo to bring Wii video on demand service to the DS

Quote
Nintendo's video on demand service, planned to launch in Japan sometime this year, might not just be limited to the Wii. According to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, it may also come to the Nintendo DS.

Iwata tells the Wall Street Journal that the advertising-based video service—currently announced for availability in Japan this year, but reportedly coming to other territories "later"—may go portable. He also hints that the video service, born of a partnership with Japanese ad agency Dentsu, will be different "in a Nintendo-like way."

"If the Wii and the DS are connected, it should be possible to download video through the Wii and take it with you on the DS," Iwata tells the Journal. The Wii already allows DS owners to download game demos via the internet.

"When the service begins, you'll see how we're going to do it differently in a Nintendo-like way," he adds. "There are a lot of on-demand video services, so there's no reason to do the same thing, so we're going to do something different. We'll start the service in Japan, and if it does well, we'd like to take it overseas."

Iwata also tells the Wall Street Journal one of his goals for the Wii is to make the console "something that people will turn on even if they don't have a purpose in mind."

"We're not there yet though, and there are a lot of things we have to do to achieve that," Iwata said. We'll leave it to you to fill in the rest.

Like Ian said somewhere else [paraphrased] "Nintendo doing the Nintendo thing in a Nintendo way"

But what would be nice is if Nintendo would bring VC games to the DS, and I mean like NES, SNES, Genesis etc etc. games on the go.

General Chat / 3 people died in the last 24 hours... :(
« on: April 02, 2009, 11:24:03 PM »
This girl I'm talking to, who lives about 5 minutes away if you take the freeway, heard a series of gunshots last night. She immediately asked me to come over because she was scared. By the time I got there, there were about 12 cop cars all around and people were getting pulled over, and other cops were just staking out the area.

Now for a little background;
Across the way from her in an adjacent Apartment complex there is a man that she refers to as the 420 man. The cops have staked his p;lace out before for what we assume to be drugs. This has been a common occurrence over the last few months as they drive through and then park at the end of the culdesac.

fastforward to last nite;
Gunshots were heard. two different kinds of guns. one slower than the other. The shots came out of 420 man apartment but nobody called the cops until about 30minutes later. Cops swarmed quickly. One body found in the house... dead.
People around the corner getting pulled over and their cars searched. More cops in the culdesac posted. other cops in and out of the apartment. I'm trying to get to this girsl apartment, but the cops are blocking her driveway and I'm a lil nervous cause I'm rollin a lil dirrty.
I never actually make it to her apartment, because of all the cops, So instead of me going to her place, I have her come to mine. Later find out that it wasn't 420 man that got shot like everyone thought, but his girl.

She just called me right now to let me know the cops are swarming the area again cause they just found another dead body. But this time it appears to be in the next door neighbors apartment. Possibly the elderly lady that lived there.

Now I'm thinking that she may have caught a stray bullet or had a system failure after all the commotion last night.
I was supposed to go over to this girls house tonite, but now I'm paranoid because of all the cops. Besides I don't wanna get caught up in all the death and drama that going on over there. My luck right now is bad enough as it is woithout having to add more opportunites to it.

Explodemon! is a 2.5D action platform game with an explosive main character. Mixing classic platforming action – from classics such as Mario and MegaMan – with the refined contemporary gameplay of Halo and Half-Life 2, it brings old-school gameplay bang up to date. Coming from Curve’s deep-seated love of video game culture and history, Explodemon! is wrapped up as a loving homage to SNES-era Japanese action games.

Explodemon! will release on PSN, PC and WiiWare in 2009.

Nintendo Gaming / Rabbids Go Home - New Rayman game w/o Rayman
« on: April 01, 2009, 05:49:53 PM »
http://gonintendo.com/?p=77613

It is not a mini-game fest.

- action/adventure game
- Rabbids have decided they want to go home, but they don’t know where home is. For whatever reason, they decide that the Moon is their destination
- Rabbids goal is to collect enough junk to build a tower to reach the moon
- control two Rabbids at once: one sits inside a shopping cart, another pushes
- push cart into various junk to collect it
- some items require extra steps to collect
- use ‘BWAH!’ attack to scare clothing off of NPCs, then collect to add to your tower
- other items are used to give rabbids new abilities, power-ups for their cart

Is anybody gonna check this one out or have you all givien up on Rayman and his rabbid problems?

General Chat / **VIRUS ALERT** Cornficker to activate April 1st
« on: March 31, 2009, 03:51:20 AM »
Quote
First scan your pc with this, it should detect all variants. This is a tool made by Microsoft and it's free:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

Keep your windows installation updated, for gods sake. You have no excuse!

Quote
Conficker, also known as Downup, Downadup and Kido, is a computer worm that surfaced in October 2008 and targets the Microsoft Windows operating system.[1] The worm exploits a previously patched vulnerability in the Windows Server service used by Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 Beta, and Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta.[2] The worm has been unusually difficult for network operators and law enforcement to counter because of its combined use of advanced malware techniques.[3][4]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conficker

Quote
Experts say it is the worst infection since 2003's SQL Slammer.[14] Estimates of the number of computers infected range from almost 9 million PCs[15][16] to 15 million computers.[17]

Quote
The worm has several mechanisms for pushing or pulling executable payloads over the network. To prevent payloads from being hijacked, variant A payloads are RC4-encrypted with a 512-bit key and RSA signed with a 1024-bit key; the payload is unpacked and executed only if the signature verifies with a public key embedded in the worm. Variant B increases the size of the RSA key to 4096 bits. So far, this has been used only to propagate newer versions of the worm.

* Variant A generates a list of 250 domain names every day across 5 Top-level domains (TLD). It attempts an HTTP connection to each in turn, expecting from any of them a signed payload.[4] As a countermeasure, ICANN and several TLD registrars began in February 2009 a coordinated barring of transfers and registrations for these domains.
o Variant C contains code to sidestep these countermeasures by generating an expanded daily list of 50000 domains across 110 TLDs. This new pull mechanism, however, is disabled until April 1.[7][10][3]
* Variant B creates a named pipe, over which it can push URLs for downloadable payloads to other infected hosts on a local area network.[10]
* Variant C creates an ad-hoc peer-to-peer network to push and pull payloads over the wider Internet. This aspect of the worm is heavily obfuscated in code and not fully understood, but has been observed to use large-scale UDP scanning to build up a peer list of infected hosts and TCP for subsequent transfers of signed payloads. To make analysis more difficult, port numbers for connections are hashed from the Internet Protocol address of each peer.[10]

So nobody really knows whats going to happen on April 1st. I would recommend everybody to scan and update their systems, as to not risk being part of the giant zombie botnet that will start looking for instruction in two days. Patch your stuff!

Incase you haven't been paying attention, the Wii is cleaning up shop in Hardware, software & third party sales (multi-platform atleast).
Money is to be made on Wii and most 3rd parties are a little late to come to that realization, but lots of them are trying to rectify that situation. There are alot of 3rd parties out there that have made alot of good games over the years and quite a few of them may be just perfect for the Wii.

So what 3rd Party games do you think should make their way over to the Wii?

I'll start off by suggesting that Namco's Point Blank series need to find a definitive console version on the Wii in the form of an updated sequel or WiiWare port.
As many gallery shooters and mini game collections that are going around, Point blank was one of the funnest.
I think it would be a perfect fit for the Wii and the Wiimote

Disney Interactive Studios Announces Toy Story Mania!, Inspired by the Disney/Pixar Feature Film “Toy Story,” Exclusively for Wii™
Beloved “Toy Story” Characters and Theme Park Attraction Provide Backdrop for Family-Friendly Carnival-Style Video Game

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Disney Interactive Studios today announced Toy Story Mania!, inspired by the Disney/Pixar animated feature “Toy Story,” will be released exclusively for the Wii™ home video game console this fall. Toy Story Mania! showcases an array of entertaining games based on the new Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort attractions, while featuring the iconic characters and humor from the popular Disney/Pixar “Toy Story” franchise.

“The ‘Toy Story’ franchise is a fun, dynamic and heart-warming series containing characters and themes that connect with every age group,” said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. “Toy Story Mania! combines those popular elements with the unique antics of the new theme park attraction for the ultimate in family entertainment.”

In Toy Story Mania!, players experience the fast-paced, zany fun of the Toy Story Mania! theme park attraction, which is an interactive experience requiring 3D glasses and involving rapid or quick-firing shooting galleries. In addition to galleries adapted from the attraction, the game includes new and original galleries and a series of mini games, all hosted by beloved characters from the movies. The thematically-connected levels are designed for up to four players of all ages with competitive and co-operative multiplayer options. Toy Story Mania! also includes bonus 3D features, transforming the game experience with eye-popping visuals.

The Pixar-created “Toy Story” and ”Toy Story 2” have both had successful box office and DVD sales. The Disney Digital 3D™ theatrical re-release of “Toy Story” is in the works and will open in theatres on October 2, 2009, followed by the 3D re-release of “Toy Story 2” opening on February 12, 2010, leading up to the premiere of “Toy Story 3” in 3D summer 2010. Toy Story Mania! is the first video game to place characters from these films into a carnival game setting and is expected to resonate with fans of the films and the attraction, as well as gamers who like pick-up-and-play party games.

Developed by Papaya Studio, Toy Story Mania! will be available this fall exclusively for Wii.

Nintendo Power Preview - EA's Grand Slam Tennis

Is no one else kinda excited by this game? I've never bought an actual EA sports game (NBA/NFL Street don't count) & my mom is really into tennis(on TV & WiiSports) so I very eager for this game to come out so that I can expand her gaming taste into real games with more depth than what WiiSports/WiiPlay/WiiFit have to offer.

I really like the stylized graphics, cause even though they are cartoony, they are very good caricatures of the real players.

Truth is I'm really excited about the possibilities of M+ & might even be tempted to pick up Tiger Woods even though I'm not a fan of golf

IGN hands on Wii EA Grand slam Tennis "now with" M+

Without Wii MotionPlus, rallies are all about timing. Based on when you swing, the ball will fly off in a certain direction -- very similar to Wii Sports Tennis. With MotionPlus, it's all about your form, power and followthrough, the latter of which is very important. You still use A and B-trigger as lob and dropshot modifiers, which just works. But less emphasis is placed on your timing. As your waiting for a serve or for a return, you twist the Wii remote about and your on-screen character will do the same. And when you finally hit it back, you'll need to consider whether to hit forehand or backhand, speed, and the positioning of the Wii remote at the end of your motion and arch. In my play test, every ball I returned shot exactly where I wanted it to go. Even better, if I cut my followthrough midway on a return, the ball would curve inward toward the middle court instead of outward toward a corner, which is amazing.

Gamespot hands on
Quote
For Grand Slam Tennis, that translates to a near one-to-one movement between what you're doing with the Wii Remote and what your onscreen player is doing with his racket. In fact, the controls are so sensitive that you can roll the Wii Remote in your hands and the player will roll the racket in sync. As a result, you'll need to be mindful of how level your racket is when you're swinging, because angling the face up or down will make a difference in how the shot comes off the racket's face.

Nintendo Gaming / Tiger Woods w/ M+ & Balance Board support...!?
« on: March 05, 2009, 06:25:15 PM »
What if some developer took the time to incorporate both of these technologies at the same time into a Golf Game?
Just imagine having to watch your posture and your swing for the ultimate in realism when it comes to golf simulation.

Would you buy this game? Tiger Woods 2010 with swing and posture accuracy?
Both wouldn't be required to play, but could definately make for the best Golf Coach Training side game that has been made to date. You could actually improve your golf game by playing this game.

Wiis would then be found in Country clubs & executive offices as a low cost coaching alternative.
You could even include WiiSpeak so that these executives could play a round of golf while having a meeting or brokering a business deal. This is an instant million seller idea.

Do you see EA or some other developer stepping up and making this a reality?
Can you think of any other games that would benifit from this combination of peripherals?

General Chat / Hmmm... thats weird
« on: January 10, 2009, 11:33:23 PM »
So I started kickin it with this girl I work with a months back. Times were hard for her and she had to kick out her room mate and didn't have cable. So she pulled out the SNES & GC for her and her kids to play.

To make a long story short, She had never beat any of the Mario games (SMB, SMB:LL, SMB2 or SMB3 - she has allstars) and never even played Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Sunshine. So I grabbed my 64 down from the closet and blew the dust off of it and its games only to discover that my Mario 64 was missing once I got it over to her house. Hmmm.... thats weird.

SO the next day I decide that I should bring over SMW for the SNES. I find the few games that I had stashed in the box....where is my SMW!!? Hmmm..... thats weird.

I open up my NES box...... no SMB/Duck Hunt cartridge..... Hmmm.... WTF!!?

So I decided to bring SMS for the GC along with all the rest of my games that fit into the 2 game storage boxes that I have (each holds about 20-25 games w/ cases). After sifting through all of them at her house... WHERE THE F#(% IS MY MARIO SUNSHINE!!?? I didn't even like the game all that much but come the f#(% on!!!

All of my Mario games except for Mario Galaxy are missing. Hmmm.... thats weird f#(%ed up. WTF!!??

Anybody wanna loan me some games? or sell them to me cheap?

Why did no one tell me this game was so addictive?
I've lost two weekends in a row to this game and countless hours of sleep because of apparent time travel.

This game has been sitting in my back log fever since last Christmas, and I just happened to put it in 2 weeks just to see how the game played and haven't quit playing since. (I'm actually typing this out during the enemies turn).

Has anyone else played through this game? I'm at Chapter 8 in the mines. And I have a few questions about the level right before the one I'm on.

The elections are over, the campaign is done, so now my time is free.

Who is who? people are changing their names which is confusing cause I recognize the titles and sometimes even the avatars. But I really want to ask all of you a favor.

Can you catch me up on whats been going on for the last 10 months?
has Nintendo taken over the world yet or did the Wii end up being a fad?
what in the **** is the DSi & why am I going to buy it?
What games have I missed that I must add to my collection, whether I actually play them or not?
What are the big rumors? the soon to be released mega hits?
Whats new & what should I be looking out/saving up for?
When are new colors for Wii being released.
Please catch me up. I'm looking for the crash course with links & pics and all the works if possible.

I made this thread to make all of you forum users aware of a specific add-on that greatly improves your forum browsing experience.

I know everyone already knows about the great must haves such as:
Ad Block Plus & its Filterset G Updater to block ALL ads and pop-ups
Answers to instantly find answers to the things you don't know
& No Script to block unwated code from assaulting your computer

But what I want to introduce to this forum that I'm sure most of you may not have discovered yet is Auto Pager,
which allows you to endlessly scroll down a thread till you hit the very end. No more 20, 50 or 100  post per page,
cause now it doesn't matter. No more clicking to get to the next page and then waiting for it to load, because the page ends where the lost post is.

Install it then try it out on The Joke Thread
