Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo Motion Camera
« on: June 03, 2009, 11:25:24 AM »
Now that we have seen what MS & Sony have to offer as far as motion controls are concerned, with both requiring atleast a camera to be be functional, does anybody think that Nintendo might be working actively to not let them have any advantage that is not HD Visual related?

We know that Ubisoft has a fitness game coming out this year that utilizes a camera that they are currently developing with Nintendo. With the recent conferences and MS & Sony's hands having been revealed, does anbody think that Nintendo might take a more active role in developing this camera with Ubisoft, or more likely let Ubisoft release their own camera for now, and come up with something more robust and future proof later?

Personally I can see Nintendo making a camera and integrating it with the sensor bar, but do you think they would go that far right now to serve the purposes of Ubisofts Your Fitness game?

Including a simple motion camera with a sense of depth combined with M+ would make the Wii just as capable as anything that Sony has just shown (and for a presumably much cheaper price). DO you see Nintendo doig anything to match competitive advancements now, or maybe waiting till WiiHD to include extra processing and ram for camera support?

Connection Problems

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

I've been getting the above alot lately. I only bring it up because tomorrow is the start of E3 & i would like NWR to be fully functional during the entire event.  So lock whoever it is, in whatever basement you have, for as long as it takes, to fix whatever the problem is, to make sure this site has a good E3.

thanx

was just at my moms work this week.
She works on a naval base here in the Bay Area and they were filming something involving covering a car in clay and then putting a bunch of golfball like divets all over it and seeing if that adds to the aerodynamics of the vehicle.

I have no idea when or if it is gonna air, but I just thought I would share.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/bethesda-next-to-target-mature-wii-market
Quote from: GamesIndustry.biz
Fallout and Oblivion publisher Bethesda has told GamesIndustry.biz that it plans to target the market for mature games on Nintendo's Wii, with at least one big release to be announced later this year.

"We are going to make an announcement on a really big Wii game this year, we've got a couple of other things in the pipeline, and it's a format we're really looking at with the right approach,"
revealed Sean Brennan, managing director for Bethesda in Europe, in an exclusive interview published today.

"I've got consoles at home but I wouldn't sit and play an 18-rated game with my family on the Wii," he said. "Is there space in the Wii market for that? I think there is, but again, it's all about finding out how big that is. Is it 5 per cent? If it's five per cent of the market and you can own that space it's worth doing because you can achieve volume. If you can't own it at five per cent, it's not worth doing, quite frankly," he added.

Brennan said that the company isn't going to announce a dedicated label for the Wii as some of its rivals have, and it isn't about to churn out sugar-sweet titles for the tween market.

"We're not going to establish a new range and call it 'My Girly Game Range' or whatever these other companies are doing, it's so me-too and boring.

"Looking at the opportunities in the Nintendo space is interesting for us because it's more driven by getting the right product for the demographic and also the right quality. We're not going to do a hamster simulator, it's not us. We're not going to produce games for girls or pet-sim products. There's nothing to distinguish them from one another," he said.

Bethesda also sees the opportunity with a console that is leaving its home rivals behind. Only a handful of publishers are really making a success in the Wii's casual market, and Brennan believes that the idea of establishing a mature business on the machine isn't just the latest bandwagon.

"We have huge respect for the Nintendo platforms, and from a marketing perspective globally they've been phenomenal. It would be churlish to ignore that space," he admitted.

"It was a problem with the DS space as well, because as soon as you spot the bandwagon, it's already too late. People don't get that. There are still some people jumping on the bandwagon but it's not within our business philosophy."
more at the link above

Speculations anyone?
Anyone thinking its Fallout related? Like Fallout 3 Tactics or something like that?
& I'm glad they don't want to jump on an already established bandwagon, but SEGA is the one that is trying to start it, where was Bethesda 1+ year ago?

What could they have besides a Fallout spinoff or an M+ enabled Elder Scrolls?

Thanks to west and iceatcs for angling the image correctly, the system is almost quadratic:

So:

1. Convincing, professional chassis mold
2. Logo changed from PLAYSTATION 3 to PS3 which is logical, not proof for/against though
3. Packaging image is not shopped (though the pack itself might be custom made)
4. IBM have had the 45nm Cell in production (since mid 2008 I believe?), we all know the story about the general downsizing of PS3 components and lower power needs
5. Pink/green work stations! (same as background)
6. Sony shipped 10m PS3's in fiscal year 07 and 08 each, they are now saying 13m for 09.
7. Maintek Computer located in Suzhou, China, manufactures PS3s. They brought down the thread (Chinese) that was hosting these images with cease and desist.

They'd probably look more like this:

espeicially if you've had a very bad day/week/month

I think the bottle says it all

Only you would get the 20 pack of cans of $6.99 and then recycle so that it could fund more beer

There is a bar near my old house that sells this by the can. I think it was $0.99 each.
At bar mark up prices you can imagine how incredibly cheap this beer must really be.

especially when you mix it with red-bull... hyper drunks =/= gpod times everytime, or even most times :smh:

Nobody really drinks beer just for the taste. If its come to this, I think you know what time it is.

Why? Thats a good question. My only guess would be that it burned you so bad that you feel the need to share it with others...
or too much exposure to this will probably end up killing you?

It can't really be that bad can it? Is it really Mexican water in a can?

General Chat / I have computer related questions. Can you help?
« on: May 01, 2009, 12:03:19 PM »
I have a 2 computer questions.

1st question:
I just bought a new memory card for my computer Nvidia 9500 dual screen or something like that.
The reason I bought it is because I wanted the dual screen set up between my WS monitor and my HDTV.
The problem is that when I move videos over to the HDTV from monitor and fullscreen them I want to continue to surf the net on the computer monitor at the same time. Right now, if I have fullscreen on the HDTV and click on anything on the monitor, it exits fullscreen mode on the HDTV.
Do I need to do dual desktop mode to make that work?
I ask because it took me a while just to get the setup where the dominant screen(monitor w/ icons and task bar) was on the right and the HDTV was on the left, so when I move my mouse off the left side of the screen it would show up on the HDTV. I really don't want to mess with it again if I can help it.

2nd question:
This is kinda related to the 1st question, but not really. I want to upgrade my processor in my computer to a Core2Duo (mainly so that multi tasking on two screens don't affect each other). If I upgrade my CPU, do I have to re-install everything?

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube Revisited
« on: April 23, 2009, 07:36:21 PM »
I've recently been hanging out at this girls house alot and all she has at her house was a SNES & a GC.
she only had three games and only one of them would even work consistently (the other 2 were badly scratched by relatives), so I brought over my GC collection (~50+ games) so that we could play them. She has 2 daughters, only one is old enough to know how to play

Not sure how many of you know this, but I would normally buy alot of games(mostly on sale) to just collect the good/interesting one but not actually play them. I would loan most of them to my other friend who had kids(he was a stay-at-home dad) so that the kids would stay out of his hair a little bit everyday.

Anyway, back to the point. I've only really played through a handful of the games I own, so now I've been going back to the ones I put down for various reasons many many, years ago. Some I have enjoyed beating, while others reminded me why I put them down in the 1st place.

I've recently just beaten:
X-Men Legends (started in middle)
X-Men Legends II (from beginning)
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (from beginning)
Super Mario Sunshine (near the end)
Mario Kart Double Dash (in the middle)
Ultimate Spiderman (from beginning)
Soul Calibur II (from beginning)
Super Monkey Ball (from beginning)
Super Monkey Ball 2 (from beginning)

While I enjoyed most of those games, there are two games on there that I never want to pick up again.
Mario Kart DD & SMS. I was extremely annoyed with both of those games, and before beating either of them, I have played superior version that make those games less enjoyable to play afterwards.

I even got her to get into a few games:
Beyond Good & Evil (she beat it)
NFL Blitz 2003
Animal Crossing (her & her oldest daughter can't get enough of it)

Next up on my list of games to finish;
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes  <--- currently playing (from beginning)
TLoZ: Wind Waker <--- currently playing (near the end)
Battalion Wars <--- currently playing (from beginning)
Geist
Metal Arms: Gltich in the System
Viewtiful Joe 1 (& 2 if I can finish the 1st)
Pikmin
F-Zero GX
Paper Mario TTYD
XIII

Knowing that some of you have played & beat most of these already, what do you all think of these games? do you still play any of them? any games I should be on the lookout for in the bargain bins?
Here is a list of most of the games I own IGN Collection List
sorry I don't know how to filter in just the GC games

I find it weird that most of my gaming time is 99% spent on the GC when I have a perfectly capable Wii sitting at home (going to go buy MadWorld tomorrow).
Does anybody still play their GC games? if yes, then which ones?

Why couldn't I have this much fun with my GC (Panasonic Q actually) when it was still new?

edit: forgot to add Battalion Wars to currently playing list

Nintendo Gaming / NPC! <what game would you insert here>
« on: April 19, 2009, 11:35:59 AM »
This thread is about New Play Control and the games that you would like to see have them.

So far there has been;
NPC! Pikmin
NPC! Metroid Prime
NPC! Mario Power Tennis
NPC! DKJB

Coming Soon;
NPC! Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
NPC! Chibi Robo

But what other games o you think could benefit from NPC & which games do you think could use a second chance?

I'm immediately gonna suggest the original FFCC because of its ridiculous requirements just to play the game. Those requirements have a much higher chance of being met today if it used the DSx4 instead of the GBAx4 & link cable x4. Maybe even make it online enabled and call it a day. The game was asking for too much on the GC but with those tweaks it might become a playable and enjoyable multiplayer experience.

Nintendo Gaming / Driift Mania - New Top Down Racer (WiiWare) Konami
« on: April 15, 2009, 12:40:10 AM »
I'm looking forward to this one. Super Off-Road here we come
Quote
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced a new multi-player racing title entitled Driift (working title), which will be released as a WiiWare title from July.

Viewed from above, Driift is a fast-paced racer that allows up to eight players to race each other, using cartoon-style chars.
Featuring twelve different tracks based on four themed environments – cityscape, hills, snow and a desert oasis – players can also select one of 32 vehicles from four categories. Each category is tailored for use within the different environments, with variations of speed, acceleration and handling and grip levels making specific vehicles ideal for particular locations.

Driift’s multi-player modes allow users to play using combinations of Wii Remotes, Nunchucks and Classic Controllers, and seven game modes are on offer. These range from the single-player and multi-player championships, and Team Race, wherein participants are divided into two teams, with the winner determined by those that accrue the most points. The VIP mode elects one player per team as a VIP vehicle, who must be protected at all costs from the opposition cars, with the removal of the VIP car resulting in a win for the attacking team.

Driift also uses ‘Contamination’ where a player is marked contagious and must contaminate very other player within a set period, while the ‘Cold Potato’ mode charges the user with collecting said vegetable and holding on to it for as long as possible! Finally, the ‘Meteorite’ option sees players embarking on a normal race, while trying to avoid a series of meteors as they fall from the sky.

“We established our European development studio to create games for mobile phone devices. After a successful start and positive, high-value products, they are now moving to other formats, too,” commented Martin Schneider, European Marketing and PR Director for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “This WiiWare title offers a new approach in a more traditional console business and we are looking forward to this download title and further contributions from our European development studio.”

The Graphics are basic, but its the fun factor that I'm looking for.
Old Arcade memories are about to be relived.

Nintendo Gaming / SPEED ZONE - 8 player split screen battle racing
« on: April 09, 2009, 08:45:43 PM »
Think F-Zero meets Hydro Thunder for the racing & Twisted Metal for the battle arena

Quote
Publisher Detn8 Games Ltd. and developer Awesome Play Ltd. announce the upcoming release of Speed Zone™, a graphically-stunning, futuristic racing game for the Wii™ home video game system.

Set for North American release in late May, 2009, Speed Zone breaks new ground for graphics on Wii with game play to match. Furiously fast and silky smooth, the game runs at a bar-raising 60 frames per second. Stunning terrains are set on colorful planets, floating asteroids, and space stations. Speed Zone features three core game modes - Solo, Race, and Battle– each with multiple goals and a progressive, level-unlock structure.

Multiplayer options in Race and Battle modes break new ground as well, allowing for up to eight players (split screen) using four Wii Remotes™ and any combination of four Nunchuks™, Classic Controllers, Nintendo GameCube™ controllers, or Logitech® Speed Force Wireless™ force feedback racing wheels. Speed Zone is the first Wii game to support up to four of the Speed Force Wireless wheels.

A 3D, three-sided pyramid menu provides access to the game’s 30 levels. The pyramid menu displays 10 Solo tracks, 10 Race tracks, and 10 Battle arenas. Initially, only the lowest-tier levels are unlocked. Players need to achieve a number of goals to unlock level links to the more challenging levels above on the pyramid menu.

In Solo mode, players try to ignite jet thrusters with boost pads to accelerate "into the zone,” with phantom cars and racing lines to help set lap records. When a player beats the targeted Zone-Time, the next level unlocks. Players can find secret pickups and shortcuts and earn bonus rewards by setting new best times. Bonus rewards can be used to buy new cars, skins, aerodynamic aides, and performance upgrades, which give the player the opportunity to go even faster when revisiting levels.

In Race mode, players compete against seven computer-controlled AI cars. Players unlock the next level by finishing in the top three (or better, depending on the difficulty level).

Battle Mode is an all-out, futuristic demolition derby, using some spectacular weapons. Players can fry opponents with a lighting gun or shatter them with an overactive chain-gun complete with flying shells– not to mention a plethora of other weapons, including rockets, missiles, lasers, and mines. Defensive pick-ups include shock-jumps, shields, and a stealth cloak.

Speed Zone comes from UK-based Awesome Play Ltd., a studio headed by renowned developer Archer Maclean. Archer Maclean has a 30-year track record of award-winning hits, including the seminal PSP™ launch title "Archer Maclean’s Mercury." Among Maclean’s other acclaimed works are Pool Paradise, World Karate Championship (a US #1 hit in 1986), IK+, andthe classic Dropzone.

Awesome Play Ltd. is a console game developer located in Banbury, UK (www.awesomeplay.co.uk). Detn8 Games Ltd. is a console and handheld video game publisher located in the Chicago suburb of Glenview, IL (www.detn8games.com).

FEATURES:
• Wuhu Island has so many things to do, there’s never a dull moment. A dozen activities await visitors: Archery,
Frisbee®, Basketball, Cycling, Canoeing, Power Cruising, Table Tennis, Air Sports, Bowling, Swordplay, Golf
and Wakeboarding.
• The activities use the precision controls of the Wii MotionPlus accessory to help players come much closer to
the physical reality of engaging in the actual sports. Every real-world action, whether it’s a perfect drive on the
fairway or a slice off the course, is meant to be faithfully replicated.
• Each activity has multiple fun challenges designed to keep visitors coming back for more. Basketball players
might compete in a three-point shootout or jump into a three-on-three pickup game. Archery enthusiasts must
aim for the bull’s-eye across ever-increasing distances and obstacles.
• Different activities use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk™ controllers in different ways. For example, players hold
the Wii Remote like a paddle in Canoeing, while in Cycling they use both arms to “pedal” with the two
controllers. The Wii MotionPlus accessory picks up every nuance of motion and translates it onto the TV screen.
• Depending on the activity, players can compete solo or against other players. Some activities even let players
team up to work cooperatively.

*Release Date - July 26, 2009*
*Price - $49.99 w/ MotionPlus bundled in*
