I meant to type SNES, don't know why I wrote N64.

I don't think it was ever rated for the Virtual Console, it was rated under the vague "Nintendo" category (whereas Virtual Console games are rated under the "Wii" category). There might be legal issues. Nintendo published the game and also co-developed it, by Take-Two might own parts of the game (the same way Square Enix owns parts of Super Mario RPG).

I find it funny Nintendo usually isn't hurt, but Sony and Microsoft had to pay millions a few years back.

Nintendo is usually smarter. They came out with their own rumble technology rather than just stealing another companies tech (like Microsoft and Sony did when they used Immersion Technologies rumble tech without licensing it).

It's not quite that simple. What is currently known as Rockstar Games used to be different design studios. "Rockstar Games" the label was created in 1998. The most famous studio in the Rockstar label is Rockstar North (developers of the console GTA games), originally known as DMA Design. Their only games for Nintendo systems were "Space Station Silicon Valley" (N64), "Body Harvest" (N64), "Uniracers" (N64), ''Grand Theft Auto" (GBC), "Lemmings 2: The Tribes" (SNES) and most recently "Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars" for DS.

I suppose Body Harvest, Uniracers and Space Station Silicon Valley could get added to the Virtual Console. Lemmings 2: The Tribes won't though since Sony owns the IP.

Check out NeoGAF for people who started complaining the moment the patent was discovered (although that may not be a good example as users at NeoGAF will bitch about anything and everything).

Agreed Ian. There are some games that I never finished because I couldn't get past a certain part (even using guides). This is  a great feature. People who are complaining about it should STFU because it's an optional feature, no one is forcing people to use it.

What is your source for those sizes? I seriously doubt that Animal Crossing: City Folk is only 500MB or Super Paper Mario is only 480MB.

Microsoft really had no choice but to launch the Xbox 360 early. For one, they were still losing money on the Xbox system after 4 years (they made the mistake of just using off the shelf parts and that limited how much they could reduce their costs) and they also wanted to get the jump on the competition. The Xbox 360 is profitable for the company, so no surprise they have no indications of a new system. Nintendo is breaking all records with the Wii and look like they will pass the PS2's lifetime total eventually. Sony could end up launching a new system earlier though since the PS3 is not doing all that well (it is only slightly ahead of where the GameCube was at this same point of its lifetime).

Lawsuits can sometimes take years to settle (the Nintendo/Universal lawsuit lasted about 2 years). From the searching I did, the lawsuit is still under way.

For anybody who hasn't seen the NPD numbers, it's not just Wii that was down. Every system was down in May compared to last year.

So much for consoles with 10-year lifecycles.
PS2 is the only console I know of that is still lasting, and it was released in 1999...

Not alot of consoles had ten year lifecycles, to my knowledge anyway.

March 2000 was the first release of the PS2 (in Japan).

The NES (if you count Japan) had a 20 year lifecycle (Nintendo was still producing new Famicoms until 2003).

They also cycle the lists (I have talked to people who have had their same exact list appear more than once), I wonder if they count the games more than once in that case.

If the Wii really wants to be like the NES they need to release a device that stops kids from playing until they finish their homework (there really was something like that for the NES), but I guess parents can already do that with the built in parental locks.

I think Nintendo only created Wii Speak because third parties wanted it, not because they wanted to really use it.

Nevermind on that one, I screwed up when looking up the info for this week. The game was already released in Japan as "Atsui 12 Game: Furi Furi Party". Here is some more info: http://www.siliconera.com/2009/03/31/this-tecmo-wiiware-game-is-just-about-shaking/

It turns out I caved in and bought a PS3 (I'm having it shipped from the US since it's cheaper with the current $/Euro exchange rate)
I got it mainly for Resident Evil 5 (I highly doubt we'll ever get a Wii version) and a few other games that are worth getting.
The built-in Blu-Ray player is actually interesting now for me as well.

Just be aware that North America and Europe are different region codes. North America is Region A, Europe is Region B. That means you won't be able to play local Blu-ray Discs unless they are coded to be region-free.

From the reviews I have read, Eduardo is a good game. Go ahead.

The people at NeoGAF (who tend to not like good games on Nintendo systems) like it too.

Glory of Heracles isn't a new IP, it's a series of RPG's that was originally published by Data East only in Japan. I am not sure how Nintendo got it (or maybe they are just publishing the new game.

Any reason you chose to update a nearly 6 year old thread? I doubt the original poster even cares anymore.

Did any of the staffers here check out the stuff that used to be in Kenta Hall? I know that this year they were all part of the main hall (although off to the side). Anybody check out stuff like the waterproof controllers and other odd stuff? That stuff always interests me since most sites never covered the stuff in Kenta Hall.

Unfortunately I think most of the people who made Duke Nukem 3D left long ago. Maybe I should change my wording and say the current version of the studio is incompetent. Maybe they aren't incompetent, maybe they just like free money for doing nothing (like the people that duped investors into spending money on Vaporware like the Phantom).

You're right, I sometimes mix those two up.

Star Fox Adventures I guess could be considered a second party studio (Rare was never a first party studio as Nintendo never owned more than 49% of the Rare).

Sin and Punishment 2 is a Nintendo first party property. Treasure is developing it, but it's a Nintendo IP. You don't consider Star Fox Adventures a third party title because it was developed by Namco or the Mario Party games third party because they are developed by Hudson Soft? It's the same thing.

I don't think anyone was expecting NSMW, and if they were then they were expecting it to be on DS. I am not that thrilled with the apparent direction Metroid: Other M is taking, but I will give it a shot since I am a big Metroid fan. I can't eat coleslaw or I will end up spending a lot of time on the toilet.

Professor Layton and the Demonic Box is a third party title. Nintendo does publish the game outside of Japan, but Level-5 owns the IP (and publishes it in Japan).
