TalkBack / Re: Wii U Sells 57K Units in January
« on: February 22, 2013, 05:26:16 PM »
Dare I ask:  how is stating that the Wii U is the most expensive console with the most expensive games misleading while being "technically accurate"?  What point am I trying to mislead people to?

I stated that economic factors were already established when the Wii U launched so it shouldn't be cited as a reason the system isn't selling more.  I don't know how this became such a controversial idea when many other people in the thread seemed to agree with the overall point, before I said any of my "technically accurate" statements (also know as facts).

I don't really care what you think about my behavior.  I wrote a general dismissive quip to a few people being hostile and ignorant.  If I came out of the gate with the attitude that ceric, tj, oblivion, or louie have, I could see you being upset. I didn't. My initial post and responses are far more civil than anything they've written in response to me by a wide margin.

Wii U games are the same price as the competition, so it's factually false to say they are more expensive. How is that so hard to understand? Something that is the same price as the competition is not MORE expensive. A $59.99 game is NOT more expensive than a $59.99 game

See that a bunch of people who don't like change keep whining. In every important way, Brawl is a better game than Melee. I don't want the developers to listen to delusional people who don't like things being improved.

Heckled by the illiterates.  oh well.

Life pro tip: In a debate, it's a good idea not to insult the intelligence of the opposing side, since it makes you look like a complete asshole.

And by the way, they can't price it whatever they want. They are a business, designed to make money. They want a profit, they deserve it. It's called capatalism, it's what our world is funded by. Get the **** over it. And you honestly believe that a completely new system, not produced in the most efficeint way possible yet (considering it IS a new system) shou;d be sold equal to or less than systems that have been out for a very long time and have had time to streamline production? Come on, dude.
again?  I suggest reading.  I'm not insulting anyone.  I'm merely observing the fact that reading comprehension is a skill that is sorely underdeveloped here.  It's concerning, really, that I can write a 100% true statement like the Wii U is selling the most expensive software and people here deny it and take offense to that 100% true statement.

Your little rant is cute and makes me realize that not only can you not read very well, you actually have no understanding of business or capitalism.  You seem like a very angry, very ignorant person.  Maybe you should "pro life tip" yourself some humility and decency before you accuse me of being an asshole, dude.

No, your statement is factually wrong. Wii U games are the SAME price as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, so it's incorrect to say they are the most expensive. So we are perplexed why you continue to insult people and try to re-affirm a 100% wrong statement. Oblivion is right, you don't have a clue how business or capitalism works.

I think that seemed pretty obvious to me. It's like the original Killzone 2 demo when PS3 was announced. Non-Sony fanboys knew it was BS, and in the end the real Killzone 2 looked nowhere near as good. PS4 games will not look as good as that Deep Down CG video.

With ESRB ratings and paying M2 to emulate, that's actually not true.

ESRB a few months basically got rid of the rating fee for digital games.

Um, that doesn't say that shut down Visceral Games's Montreal studio, just that they let some people in Los Angeles and Montreal go.

Even if you don't like soap operas (though they do count), he was the star in at least one of the TV movies (which means he had the lead role).

The Following -- 9/10

Kevin Bacon's first TV role

Except for the year he spent on the soap opera Guiding Light, and the 5 TV shows he guest starred on, and the 4 TV movies he was in.

Why even offer a 50 Hz version? It's my understanding that pretty much every TV in Europe made in the last 15 years supports both versions, so no one would really be affected by only having a 60 Hz version.

This was on Playstation Plus as a free download earlier.  It's an entertaining game, but I don't think I would've paid $10 for it.

The HD versions are $15, so they are giving a discount for the WiiWare version.

LOL, 4K TV's do exist but they are absurdly expensive and the difference it quality is not noticeable. The human eye can not see any difference unless you TV is like 80 inches. And the jump in quality for the PS4 is not huge. Trying to make any system or game 4K would be pointless because it would be a waste of time and money to do it because no one will see the difference between 1080p and 4K.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Official Sales Thread
« on: February 21, 2013, 03:25:51 PM »
Cloud gaming is good when it's OPTIONAL, but it's terrible when it's required. Whether it's low Internet speeds in some areas, the risk of the Internet being down in your house (or the service being down), and what will happen when they shut down the service. Cloud only should not, and hopefully never will be, the only option. Sony is basically spitting in our faces by making BC only work through cloud service.

Surely Nintendo and Capcom aren't opposed to re-releasing a game for some easy money.
History Seems to prove otherwise.

With Nintendo you might have a case related to a few very specific titles, but with Capcom I'm not so sure. Which games that don't have obvious licensing/copyright issues and do have obvious sales potential were held back by either company?

The Game Boy Mega Man games. The RUMOR is that they lost the source code for those games, but it's just a rumor.

Is 'Yoshi' a different regional title for 'Yoshi's Cookie'?

You may be more familiar with its European name of Yoshi Egg.

I remember liking the game as a kid, but it has aged terribly and is not very fun. I am glad I got it for free as part of the Ambassador program, because I would not pay $4.99 for it.

And when you run your own game site, you can feel free to do that and annoy the publisher for no real benefit.

Do you really think Ubisoft will care if you write it as "Watch Dogs" in news stories rather than "Watch_Dogs" or "WATCH_DOGS"?

That's the official, Ubisoft-designated title though.

And when Sony released it, they called the PlayStation 3 the "PLAYSTATION®3 Computer Entertainment System". Should we have written it like that? Even now they write "PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system". Sony writes "inFAMOUS". Nintendo has "GiFTPIA". Namco Bandai has "THE iDOLM@STER". Compaies use odd stylistic choices sometimes, I don't think we should give in to that.

I think this was debunked on NeoGaf as to not be an indication of the game coming but just something that was in the site code as suggested. The site is down at the moment but when it's up I'll link to the thread.

Edit: Here it is.

It's no secret that NeoGAF is generally anti-Nintendo, so of course they are gonna claim that this is not true.

Tweet cap? How often do you tweet? Because I see people literally tweet more than 40 times a day (which is absurdly high), so the ap must be really high.

Except online is not part of the game itself. On-disc DLC is done and complete, so you are not paying to download anything, you are paying to unlock something already on there. And if you play games online, Xbox Live is worth it

marty, you are just wrong.

First, look at the Xbox 360. When it launched it was by far the most expensive system (it was at least $100 more than the next most expensive console and games were $10 more than any other system), but it still sold really well. It's delusional to think a new system should be the same price or less than 6/7 year old systems. And game prices are not gonna go down, on any platform. At most you can expect game prices to stay the same. It's silly and unrealistic to think the console was gonna be the same price or less than Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, and Nintendo doesn't control how much third party publishers charge for games. So you are wrong.

1300
I happily pay for XBL because the quality of online play is noticably better than PSN. I also buy a lot of XBLA games when they go on sale, so I get those discounts.

Also realistically, it's always been $30-35 a year when you snag your cards off Amazon or whoever happens to be having a sale.
it makes since that xbl is faster because it uses a more unified server system then psn(or whats on the wii u to my knowledge)
but it should still be 0$ a year.
and why does a 'paid' or 'premium' service need ads

Why "should" it be free? They are providing you a very good service, it's not wrong of them to have you pay to support it. I don't think it should be $60, but it's fine that they charge for it (and no, it is wrong to say charging for Xbox Live is worse than on-disc DLC or just as bad). And unlike on PS3, Xbo 360 lets you play even 5 year old games online (unless its a EA game).

Also, Xbox Live has very ads (like 1 or 2). And you still get ads on cable TV (despite paying for it), Hulu Plus (despite paying for it), magazines (despite paying for it). So you can't bitch about that because it's standard for things you pay for to still have ads.
