Shadow Complex was one of the 10 best selling Xbox Live Arcade games in Japan in 2009, and was published there by Microsoft Japan. Maybe a Japanese subsidiarity counts, otherwise I think it might just be Nintendo's policy.

1227
Wait! What's NCL stand for? Is this a Japanese government agency?

Nintendo Company Limited, it's the full name of Nintendo. Usually when people say it thought, they are specifically talking about the Japanese branch.

Perm, the original Mother doesnt use music samples.

1228
What is so bad about that? They are saying they will provide free downloadable quests for several months. I think you are incorrectly assuming they will only have the servers up for that period of time.

1229
...Is this a similar situation with Mother on Wii Virtual Console?

Um, what? What does Mother have to do with this? Mother is developed and published by Nintendo.

The only thing the patch would do for Japan is Off-Screen play, the patch's main feature is to enable North American and European players to play with each other.

TalkBack / Re: Wii Mini Officially Confirmed for European Release

The lack of GameCube backwards compatibility is moot at this point, because the Family Edition (aka. the horizontal Wii, the blue Wii or the New Super Mario Bros. Wii bundle) debuted over 1½ years ago (August 2011) and also omits GameCube support.  That's why New Play Control! exists.  By that time, no more new games or accessories were made for GameCube.  It would have been great to keep that support instead of using Classic Controllers, but that is how Nintendo does business.

I should clarify that only the black New Super Mario Bros. Wii bundle is the Family Edition, the red NSMBW Wii bundle is the one I got and it does have GameCube support.

1232
What? This seems weird and a little ridiculous. The only reason I can think of is Nintendo wanting to help the Japanese economy by making sure Japanese companies get money from all games (besides just Nintendo, as they get a cut of every game anyways). This means small non-Japanese developers get even less money for their games as they have to share some of the revenue with another publisher.

You're right. There it is. I swear it wasn't there two hours ago. When does Nintendo update the eShop? 9am PST? If so, I checked it a bit before that (for me, before noon, EST).

Yep, Nintendo always updates the eShop (and Wii Shop Channel) at 12PM ET/9AM PT.

I looked for the Castlevania demo, but could not find it.

Really? I just opened up the eShop and the Castlevania demo was the first thing I saw.

General Gaming / Re: Ouya
« on: February 28, 2013, 01:10:16 PM »
Ouya will be niche at most, it will never be big or make any real impact. Besides the fact that any Android games will have to be re-designed to be played on the Ouya controller (which I see most Android developers not bothering with), I think once the rampant piracy happens (which WILL happen since the company itself is encouraging people to hack the system), developer support will drop like a stone. The system might get minor support from those curious about it and its price, but I don't see the system selling any more than 100K in all of 2013 (and even that is being ambitious).

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Does Pikmin qualify as a strategy game?
« on: February 28, 2013, 01:04:25 PM »
I think it is a strategy game (RTS specifically). Most genres have different sub-genres, like how Mario Kart and Gran Turismo are both racing games but are vastly different.

With Metroid Prime, I do not consider it a first person shooter. People only call it a FPS because it's in first person, is Super Metroid a side-scrolling shooter? Because if you call Metroid Prime a first person shooter, then you have to call Super Metroid a side-scrolling shooter. Metroid Prime just took the Metroid formula and shifter the camera to a first person perspective.

It's not even that late, it will be a couple of weeks after launch.

That was for Japan. Nintendo confirmed a North American release for them, but did not say when.

How would one even check that? My ISP is a extremely tiny one based in my town of 500 people.

Then you should be fine. From what I can find, 5 ISPs are participating right now. Four of the five are AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, and Time Warner Cable. They have the option to terminate service to violators, but none of them plan to do that.

Verizon is the only ISP that will cap customers' data speeds. Before doing so, Verizon will issue a series of alerts and then force repeat-offender FiOS customers to watch instructional videos about copyright and legal methods of downloading content. If customers continue pirating content, their connection will be capped at near dial-up speeds for 2-3 days. Verizon customers will get two weeks' notice before any slowdown occurs, providing a window to appeal piracy accusations. Customers of any ISP can appeal a copyright alert for a $35 fee, which is waived if their appeal is granted or if they express financial difficulties.

Time Warner Cable will not throttle customers' data plans or terminate service. Time Warner Cable customers accused of piracy will receive a series of alerts which, if they are ignored, will lead to customers experiencing a browser lock until they call Time Warner Cable representatives for an instructional conversation about copyright and legal methods of downloading content.

Comcast won't cap Internet speeds, either. Instead, repeat offenders will be first made to confirm receipt of stern warning emails. If their unwanted behavior continues, they will encounter persistent in-browser alerts, deletion of which will require a call to Comcast Security Assurance. CSA will discuss copyright issues and legal downloading alternatives with Comcast customers before deactivating the alerts.

AT&T is also choosing not to throttle users' speeds. AT&T customers accused of piracy will receive a series of alerts. If an accused customer continues illegally downloading content after receiving four such alerts, AT&T will demand they "take an extra step to review materials on an online portal that will educate them on the distribution of copyrighted content online" before they can access other websites, according to a company statement. AT&T noted the program is focused on "customer education rather than punishment."

It also only applies to wired Internet, so services like AT&T Wireless and Verizon Wireless are not affected.

You can first check to see if your ISP is participating since not all ISPs are doing the six strikes rule, and even some that do have different punishments (AT&T won't throttle your speed).

Speaking of the new 6 strikes rule, I laughed when somebody on Facebook (on my local Occupy page) started bitching and complaining about it and openly admitted that its because he downloads content illegally, and when I told him to just buy it legally he tried to justify his actions by saying he can't afford to legally pay for music/movies/programs. I think if you download stuff illegally, then your ISP is well within its right to limit your Internet speed (and I think they should be able to cut you off entirely).

kinect will be bundled with the 720 and it likely will be a huge part of the system
the only question is if it will coexist in perfect balance with the regular controller or if the controller will become some secondary thing
microsoft needs a standout and kinect can do that

Mandatory Kinect would be a terrible idea, and would guarantee that me and millions of others would not even bother getting the system. I never had room for Kinect since you needed to be 6 feet away from it and I didn't have that much room, so I could never use it even if I wanted to. So if Xbox 3 does come bundled with Kinect 2, Microsoft would be foolish to make it mandatory to use with the system. If you need to use Kinect 2 to even power up the system, then that is millions of potential sales that will be lost just because of that.

A demo is bad if you have to watch a tutorial before playing it. A demo is meant to sell a person on the game, and should be able to stand on its own. If you need to watch a tutorial before playing the demo, then the company did a bad job.

i wish you luck and will keep an eye on this game but we'll see how the mods take to this

You are relatively new, but this is fine here. We sometimes have developers on here plugging their games, it's welcome because they are interacting with gamers.

I tried the 3DS demo, and it was OK at best. Maybe the retail product is better, but I am not gonna pay $43 to find out since I did not like the demo. It's fine if other people like it, but it's not for me.

EA is implying that their PS4/720 games could cost $69.99  if Sony & MS allow it of course @ their investor meeting today.

hurry up and usher in the "next" generation of consoles already.
my wallet is ready.

A rep for EA said the guy misspoke and meant games starting at $60 and dropping to $50.
