One of the things that made me get this was it's unique Insanity effects. I don't think another game has replicated it yet.

I believe that is because Nintendo has patented Eternal Darkness' sanity effects system but don't quote me on that.

still a better deal than paying for them at 2 bucks a pop for DLC.

That's debatable since with DLC you can pick what songs you are interested in, with retail music games you're stuck with whats on the disc so you may like about  33 - 50% of the songs on the disc and then you might not even touch the rest which can be considered a bad value.

Oh wow, I didn't notice that the Wii version is actually a FREAKING PORT of the DS version!
I was gonna get both, glad I read this thread. I'll just get the DS version (and maybe the Wii one used in a few months if I can find it cheap).

Technically it's not a port it's an emulation of the DS. I wish Square made something different for the Wii version or a different game as a whole.

i was under the impression that you could play the game and it didn't matter if you had a wii or a ds

That is true...*Reads linked article*...that is not true.I thought the same thing. Kind of odd that only one Wii game can join in. Well I just switched back to wanting the DS one considering this and the fact that the Wii edition is a scaled DS game. What I originally thought was a bold move on Squares part has turned into a rather large blunder. I just hope that the possible tanking of the Wii version doesn't alter their view on making games for Wii.

And I want a true sequel to the original Gamecube FFCC for Wii with DS-Wii connectivity like the old GBA-GC link.

Can't blame them Square trying to sell the same game twice, I remember first week in Japan the DS version sold around 122,000 and the Wii version sold around 24,000 it looks like that Square's plan backfired.

Puzzle Quest is extremely hardcore.  It's a strategy-RPG with puzzle-based battles... what do you expect?  That's part of the charm of the original one, as it turned the most casual game ever into an incredibly deep, complex, and rewarding hardcore title.  Galactrix doesn't pull the same trick because it's no longer based on Bejeweled (despite what Zach's review implies), but it may be even more complex than the first game.  That's not necessarily a good thing, mind you.

I want to see someone turn Peggle into a hardcore title.  I think it could be done.  (And I LOVE Peggle.)

From what I saw of Galactrix it looks like a mixture of bejeweled and hexic.

I always had a love, hate thing with IGN reviews nowadays I don't care much for them anymore. I always think that the best reviewer is yourself since it's you who ultimately will want what will interest you not someone who will make a decision for you. In my opinion reviews should just be used as a guideline and to potentially address  any concerns you have about the game however the sad thing is there are a lot of  reviews that just rambles on and on how bad a game "sucks" just because they hate it.

Easy, Nintendo doesn't allow LAN plan play on Wii and I think that it's stupid that Square-Enix made the Wii version an emulated version of the DS game. I really think that it is such a big wasted opportunity that voice chat wasn't implemented in either version since games like this require it.

I really think that the DS version will be the superior version since both games are the same game and you have the benefit of portability. I'm not even really sure if Wii owners can play with DS owners over Wi-Fi for this game since I would assume that Wii servers are different from DS servers.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Upcoming Resident Evil game for Wii thread
« on: March 07, 2009, 11:22:36 AM »
my guess will be Outbreak 1+2 with Wiispeak and up to date controls.

I really highly doubt it's Outbreak 1 and 2 since both of them weren't very successful on the PS2. There's a higher chance that they would make a Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles 2 than RE:Outbreak. Also the Outbreak games were never that' great to begin with since if I remember correctly Capcom never implemented voice chat when there were USB headsets available for the PS2.

Hate to break it to you guys

Quote from: 1up
1UP asked MTV Games to comment on the pricing, but the company would only confirm the pricing in yesterday's announcement was accurate. The disc-only version of The Beatles: Rock Band will be sold at $59.99 on Wii.

"I don't think $60 will become the standard," said Pacific Crest Securities senior research analyst Evan Wilson to 1UP over e-mail. "Many games have actually started to go the other way -- launching at $40 instead of $50. They [MTV Games] think the market will bear a higher price due to the attractiveness of the content."

The only way I could see the Wii version being 59.99 is if something is included with it since the only Wii games that cost more than 50 include a peripheral.

Wii sales in Japan will rocket once Monster Hunter G and Monster Hunter Tri comes out. The two most popular Wii games that came out in the holiday season were Animal Crossing and Taiko no Tatsujin(Taiko Drummaster).

I'm actually not surprised by the score, and I am not surprised by the lack of major character development and generic storyline since the original Fire Emblem was a Famicom game. I'm playing through the game right now and I still love the game and think it's really good. Awesome review Chessa :).

Imagine Punch-Out controlled exclusively by Dance Pads or Bongos.

I could actually visualize that since Dance Pads do have an A and B button.

TalkBack / Re: Wii Motion Plus to Be Released Before June 16th?

Here's something interesting from IGN's Nintendo Podcast; there's speculation that Wii Sports Resort and Wii MotionPlus will be delayed with a possible summer release date. The reason being is that Nintendo is having development issues with the peripheral, in the podcast they speculate the issue is that Wii MotionPlus has to be re-calibrated constantly so Nintendo is probably trying to reduce that.  Also they mentioned that Wii Sports Resort will feature 8 games instead of 10.

Hey, it just makes my review MY OPINION, which is what any review ultimately is. I hated the core gameplay of Homie Rollerz and Neopets, too.

I think we've gone over this before.

I think anybody will agree that Homie Rollerz is just awful, when I saw Gametrailers video review of Galactrix it just made me think that it's just a sci-fi skin of the original Puzzle Quest with some new minor elements.

Harvest Moon sees some big changes in its WiiWare debut.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=17878

The latest issue of Famitsu Weekly reveals a new WiiWare Harvest Moon title by the name of “Bokujou Monogatari Series: Makiba no Omise”, which roughly translates to Harvest Moon Series: Ranch Store.

As the name suggests, instead of managing a farm players will now manage a store instead. As a male or female character, players will be able to manage a variety of stores such as a juice shop, an ice cream parlor, or an Easter egg shop. Famous characters from past games will show up at the stores as customers.

Bokujou Monogatari Series: Makiba no Omise will be released on Japanese WiiWare on April 28th, with a price point of 1500 Wii Points.

Um, why is this on the staff blog?

I think he wanted there to be a blog post that doesn't inspire a gigantic argument for once.

Because right now it's all speculation if Wii MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resorts comes out before June 16th which is the release date of Grand Slam Tennis. If I'm speculating about something then I wouldn't want to post it as news since a person could always be wrong. I also think that it's a interesting observation.

Ningurl is right.

High Voltage considered using Wii Motion Plus for the Conduit but they decided against it. I believe since the whole game was designed around the regular Wii Remote they decided adding Motion Plus late in the game would be more of a gimmick.

Conduit hits stores on June 9th which Neal reported last month.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=17701

I never understood why HVS ever needed Wii MotionPlus for The Conduit since at most Wii FPS uses motion to either reload or for a melee attack. I hope that MotionPlus comes out near the release of Grand Slam Tennis since that and Wii Sports Resort are the two perfect center piece titles to show off the potential of the peripheral.

TalkBack / Wii Motion Plus to Be Released Before June 16th?

EA’s Grand Slam Tennis website revealed today that the game’s official release date will be June 16th. As discussed in my article from yesterday, the title will feature Wii MotionPlus support.

Now while this is no confirmation that Wii MotionPlus (and by extension, Wii Sports Resort) will release prior to that date, perhaps it is a sign.

Being that the game is arguably one of the more important titles for EA and Nintendo to show off the functionality of the new peripheral, you would assume that the peripheral will need to be available prior to that date. Hopefully Nintendo will shed some light on the official release date soon.
