Nintendo Gaming / RE: 2-3 Times as powerful as GC true, sez IGN
« on: December 08, 2005, 11:26:25 AM »
Can someone please explain to me how the DS library is compromised? By WHAT? Nintendogs? Nintendogs is a game. Maybe it's aimed at non-gamers but it's definitely not out of place...Hey You! Pikachu didn't compromise the N64's library. Or maybe Electroplancton did the compromising? Its one person dev team really drained resources from other people...

The GBA, in five years, has 14 games over 90% on GameRankings, and another 15 over 85%. The DS has 3 games over 90% and another 11 over 6 over 85%, despite being out 1/5 the time.  That means the ratio for the two systems having quality games is roughly the same, or slightly better for the DS. Thats with developers having to experiment! If you look at the first 6 months compared to the last 6 months, all but TWO of the highly rated games have come out recently. That means the numbers will more than likely grow even faster now. How in ANY WAY is that compromised?

Ian, you always say Nintendo needs to do so and so and so and so, and yet when they release Mario Kart to sell over 1,000,000 copies, while also selling 1,000,000 copies of a wholly new series, you say they're compromising! I can't even think of any other "non-games" that are coming out soon besides Electroplancton! Oh, I forgot, they're releasing a Brain Flex game that took like...no resources to develop. Versus Prime Hunters, an original sports title, and a brand new platformer starring Peach.

MAKES NO SENSE MORON.

They have a shell available to play traditional games.  If they were confident that this remote design they wouldn't bother with one because there's no need.  A real standard should be able to adapt to all previous games that used the standard controllers of the past.  You said that the problem with the shell is that if Nintendo pushes it too hard then people are going to assume they don't trust it.  I'm going a step further and saying that they very fact that they even made one shows they don't trust it.

Or I guess it's possible that NCL trusts it (actually that's very likely) but some third parties and likely some NOA execs don't and thus they came up with the shell to please them.  But even then, the very fact that they have to make a shell to appease these people should be a big alarm going off in NCL's heads.

I think you, Ian, are the reason they have a shell. You and people like you who use every single possible thing you can to rip apart the Revolution. If they didn't have a shell then you'd say they were abanoning every current gamer. Now that they do you say they don't believe in the new idea.

ANSWER me this question: Do you or do you not understand that Nintendo is not interested in the stauts quo?

Because it comes down to that: they don't want to do the things you bitch and moan they should. Plain and simple. Yet you do not seem to get that. I wish Matt at IGN would come and kick your face in.

I never said it was a bad thing, or that you said it was a bad thing. I'm just telling you how stupid what you said was, and how wrong. You said: "BECAUSE IT'S A GAMECUBE!" but how? It has a whole new chipset, whole new controller, who new disc medium, etc. The PS2 used PSX controllers and memory cards, but no one calls it a repackaged PSX. The simple fact is all you said was 'repackaged gamecube' with no boundaries or elaboration! So now, you're claiming you were right because there's nothing you said that had any actual merit or value to it. If I said "The GameCube will be an improved N64!" I'd be about as right as you are. New chips, more power, new storage medium, new controller. Not being 12 times as powerful doesn't make it a repackaged GameCube. The only thing it reuses is the design enviroment, which has nothing to do with hardware and everything to do with developing ease.

In order for it to be a repackaged GCN, it needs to have many similar parts to the GCN. It has, what? None? The only similar parts it has are the controller ports which are specifically FOR GameCube games. Let's try this again:

You. Were. Wrong.

If you take any system and increase it's clock speed you get the new system...I fail to see how this makes any sense.

TWO BRAND NEW CHIPS. How much more 'new' can you get? The Revolution has as much new hardware as the 360, PS3, PS2, GCN, N64, SNES, Dreamcast, etc. Your prediction made little sense at the time, and now you're expanding an already shaky term so that somehow you are possibly right. You're not. The system is brand new. It is similar to GameCube in many ways, but it is not an improved GameCube, because it uses none of the same hardware. Last time I checked, btw, overclocking wasn't going to double your CPU and GPU. Your point is wrong, and your attempts to broaden what you said into some realm of credibility is unsuccessful.

You. Were. Wrong.

The shell basically says the new controller is as good as the old, but not a replacement.

People aren't going to buy the Rev to get a game they can get with better graphics on the XBOX or PS3. If third party games largely use the shell, the system will be a major flop.

That has to be the stupidest, most irrelevant, most pointless, most factless, most ridiculous thing you have ever written. I'm on the floor laughing.

Knoxxville, usually when you respond to a person you disagree with, you make a point that shows them they are wrong, not post random things that don't do anything but further their point. But however you like it.

The Revolution is a repackaged Gamecube.

Entire new chipset, at least twice as powerful, whole new medium, new controller, new storage method, new functions, and a totally different design.

In what way is that any more a GameCube than any system is its predecessor?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: The D-Pad...
« on: December 06, 2005, 11:54:51 AM »
I like the DS too. Nintendo has the best d-pads, by far, but the DS pad (and the Rev's looks similar or better) is smoother for the thumb. I HATE the XBOX's horrific thingy, and the PS2's is not good for thumb resting. It just goes to show you can reinvent the wheel, but not improve it. Though I also prefer Nintendo's joystiqs, much easer to control (not the C-stick) and the grooves in the circular base make directions SO much easier. I've never figured out how people can stand the PS2's horrible round things.

Nintendo has used the exact same d-pad (just a different size) on every controller since the NES. Yet on the DS it changed, and now the Rev is different again. Why did thye change it, and what do you guys think?

I don't see how this story has anything to do with Nintendo not learning from their mistakes. The biggest problem with the GameCube was the look and the treatment, both are being changed. If anything this story is about a new mistake not an old one. Being underpowered has never been done by Nintendo before.

This isn't crappy journalism and if this makes you see Rev in a bad light then that's Nintendo's fault. Get over whatever problem you have with IGN.
